The 250GB Samsung SP2514N 7200rpm 8Mb Cache IDE ATA133 (3yr Warranty) oem is only £52.85 including delivery from microdirect. This has fallen in price in the last few months. This actually works out at an amazing 21p per GB!!! Samsung IMHO is a good make for hard drives. It also comes with a brilliant 3 year warranty - by the time that runs out, you'll be needing a new hard drive to store all the holodeck files anyway...

The same model was posted on the old forum, but it is now slightly cheaper so it deserves it's own post!

Fantastic price too!

Great to hear your recommendations dark_shadow. I didn't know what an icybox was, so I googled it - The Icybox Illuminated Aluminium Hard Drive Enclosure : is yours like that one?

be careful some icybox's have a size limit of drive. Make sure you get one that is unlimited and also if u wanna be future proof does SATA and IDE drives :)

Emma Indeed it is. But you have to note SATA Versions of ICYBOX don't have the annoying blue lights which most prefer (Inc me) especially when it's in use with a HTPC. LEDs are used instead, red for power and green whilst accessing.

Build Quality good and it looks smart

As for HD limit, I've heard it's upto 250GB. Personally if I had more than 250GB to backup I'd look into 'proper' solutions :)

These Samsungs are ideal for dropping into Sky Plus boxes.

Thats the icybox you want. Does SATA and IDE and also has a blue light for ya :) Also no limit. Thats the 1 I got :)

80GB seemed big a year ago. In a years time 250gb will seem small. So buy for big drives :)

I installed Samsung in PS2 (Playstation 2) and it works (and fits) perfectly. Very good drive indeed.
