Can the drive be put into my laptop?
#4
If you take it out of the enclosure, yes.
#5
I don't really know why this is cold. £30 for a 250GB HDD is pretty good. I would pay the extra £15 for the 640GB samsung (that was posted yesterday) if I was going to put it in a laptop, though. You usually pay a premium for the enclosure.

How does Seagate compare to more 'famous' brands such as WD? I'm wondering whether it's better to spend a few pounds more for a WD one.....
#13
Can I use this to play AVI files on xbox and ps3? As in, is it FAT32 or the NTFS(?)

Hope someone can help!

Both Seagate and WD Hd's have failed me in the past so i don't think it makes a difference. Although Seagate was by dropping it and WD just failed.

I'd never buy another Seagate eternal drive. Bought one three years ago with (thankfully) a five year warranty. Its failed and been replaced three times in that time - with each replacement failing as well! Last time it was the USB connection inside the case that failed a nd not the drive itsel;f...
And no - its not been abused - its used as a "data backup", so its just accesed "now and then" to take a backup and then put away for weeks...
#16
Love lancashirerumbly's irony in calling it an eternal drive... or was that typo ;)
#17
doesn't seem that cheap per gb when compared to other 2.5" drives on offer

basically a free sata dock too.
Does this effectively mean than I could simply plug a SATA HDD into the GoFlex USB 2.0 interface adapter and it would pretty much work?

Thanks

Just bought one in Currys in York (City Centre, they have four left). Very small and light, not massively keen on the separate interface/cable arrangement though.
banned#20
^^ yes - all of these hard drives are sata so you can use any other sata hard drive with the enclosure... if you can open it up, some are sealed.

Think it is NTFS, but you can easily reformat to FAT32.

Just bought one @ currys Apsley.. at least one more on stock ;-)
#25
Popping in to pick one up tomorrow hopefully
#26
Thanks OP. Picked one up yesterday - there were still 4 left in stock in Bristol Cabot Circus. Very pleased with small size & light weight but not convinced with the separate interface attachment and 'futureproof' claim (buy another attachment in future and have it working for USB 3 for example) as replacement attachments seem v expensive.

All in all a good price for what it is though - 250GB very portable HDD.

i bought the same one about 2 years ago for £79 from ebuyer, great for storing photo's,never had any bother with it either
#28
great spot - deal heated.
Just bought 2 in Currys Cheshire Oaks - 2 left in stock if anyone interested @ 29.99 each.

This is impossible, the "GoFlex" model has only been on the market for months, I may be wrong with the month but as far as I am aware this model only when on general release May/June this year.

Has anyone tried ordering online beforehand? I know that with PCW they just put them aside, and you pay when you get there....

#32

#33
