Already got this hard drive in my PS3 from eBuyer instead.

Recommended and great value for what a certain rival console charges for extra storage.

Could I use this in my passport USB drive by taking out the old one and putting this in? Will it still run off the USB port or will I need to use an AC adapter?

You seriously cannot help yourself, can you?

Anyway, seems like a good deal, even though i'd prefer a 500 GB 3.5" for around the same price, but if you need the extra space in your laptop seems alright.

this is a today only item now. price is now just £50.51

Hey Guys....
I have been thinking about getting some more storage for my laptop but im new to upgrading.

I have read about 2.5 inch drives and 3.5 inch drives. How would I know if this one was suitable for my Toshiba Laptop?

Thanks

2.5" hard drives are for Laptops :) which model of laptop is it as you may need an IDE hard drive rather than this one which is SATA :)

How do you install this and how do i backup my current data?
#20
Doesn't void your warranty Sony made it easy and give you intructions.

Heres a tutorial that I found helpful and followed the few simple steps.

You will need a PC with a shared folder on the same lan/subnet as the PS3. There is an option on the PS3 to backup data to your PC. Have'nt done it myself but most things with this machine a easy to do. Check out the online manual from the PS3 menu.

Proberly because you are comparing a 3rd party add on drive compared to the official Ones.

Get One thing straight if you wanted to replace your OFFICIAL Sony PS3 hard drive with another OFFICIAL Sony PS3 hard drive direct from Sony you would pay the full price and it would be a lot higher than this 3rd party one so why are you comparing the 360 OFFICIAL drive and not a 3rd party one?.

ANY USB drive will work in the 360 up to TWO terrabye i.e THIS ONE is 500 gb £64.61 and works out of the box -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Essential-500GB-External/dp/B000WP0NM8/ref=pd_sbs_ce_img_1

The only things it can't be used for is market place content(basically demos, xbox 1 games and high def film downoads) the PS3 can't do them either other than the demos and is not backward compatible but 360 is, that is where official drive is needed and High def films need the official drive but like I said the PS3 can't do either of those so it all balances out.

If you have a make of USB drive that only recognize the first 32gb on the 360 then use something like partition magic this will allow you to partion the drive to just about any size and do the same things that you can only do with the PS3 extra storage anyway I.E - Photos,mp3, divx, etc and of course on the 360 you can play your own music in games and in menus etc (Multi task) a thing the PS3 cant do either. So stop bringing up your silly petty points after all 360 owners don't post on every Xbox1 game boasting that it can also be played on the 360 which a certain other console cannot do with PS2 games..

And also the Sata drive can be used the 360 with cheap plug and play devices like this -

This will allow you to backup your official saves etc easily to pc hard drive as you are trying to do above..

@Fred Head

My ps3 plays ps2 and ps1 games perfectly. There is no Offical Sony Harddrive because they werent dumb like microsoft to make up some silly harddrive which is £60 for 20gbs and 13gbs is for emulationg xbox games so your really paying £20 for 7gb but my ps3 doesnt use any of its 60gb to play ps2 and ps1 games.

Rubbish there is in fact an official Sony hard drive and if your console went wrong after it's guarantee was up and you sent it back to Sony and it was a hard drive fault then Sony would charge you accordingly for their official hard drive that comes with the PS3.

And why quote a redundant PS3 which is what you have we are talking about the only model PS3 that you can now buy and is NOT PS2 compatible not the old dropped model that you have...
#26
Any pics of this offical harddrive, and how much does this offical hard drive cost as it seems to me your talking about sony replaceing a broken ps3 harddrive after warranty in which i would say every company would charge for.

That's exactly what I am saying when you buy the PS3 you get their PS3 official drive installed and if it goes wrong after the guarantee is up and Sony replace the original drive that came in the PS3 you will pay a lot more than a 3rd party one, anyway the whole point was why did he even mention the 360 in this post in the first place? other than to stir ?....

If my stalking is correct you have an Inspiron 1520 in which case this hard drive will fit

I thought 40GB would be more space than I would ever need but after realising that many PS3 games need huge installs on my HDD to even work I'm starting to think an upgraded drive like this will become a must-have item for all PS3 owners after a while.
#34
want to upgrade the hdd before I install linux on ps3, hot deal!

great price, missed the today only but for £52.04 still very hot. Also got a £5 enclosure for the 40gb hdd in the ps3. Free delivery on top of that!
#35
Fred Head, there's NO such thing as an "official Sony PS3 hard drive". When I upgraded my PS3 hard drive, it just had a standard Seagate 2.5" hard drive inside (same as any standard one you can buy in the shops). The PS3 comes with a 3rd party hard drive installed as standard!

That's one of the good points about the PS3...it's cheap to upgrade the INTERNAL hard drive as any 2.5" SATA hard drive will do.

I have a 20GB Xbox 360, but there's no way I'm gonna spend £130 to upgrade it to 120GB
