Have a look in today only section maybe?!?

And click BUY from the same page NOT the description page... Tis a bit odd the way it works and riling as well. I remember paying £4 more per pack of discs once and as I ordered a few for others ended up being nigh on £35 more!!!

It comes up as £16.09 on the today only page but when you add to basket the price changes.
#4
You have to click the buy button on the today only page for these prices.

If you want to actually look at the product click on the link in your basket.

I don't know if its still on but if you are a member of AV Forums you can get free delivery if you order over £20 or something.

very well spotted dude, been thru that page and missed it, nice for those that want a cheap dx10 card to replace onboard rubbish

Good find. Bought it to upgrade an x1300 pro in my Vostro 200. Should give it a 2-3x boost in speed for not much cash. I can sell the x1300 on ebay for not much less than this! Bought some much-needed rechargable batteries to up the cost to > £20 for free postage, so even better.

Voted hot and repd.

Is this card less powerful than the 8600GT?

Good price but aren't you meant to spend over £20 or something like to qualify for the free delivery?

The 2600 Pro is only slightly faster. Try a 8600GT, or 3850 Radeon

get a HD4670, about £63, fast card, quiet and doesn't require additional power cables!

According to THG, it should be faster than the 8500GT, and slightly slower than the 8600GT - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/gaming-graphics-charts-q3-2008/benchmarks,30.html

My recommendation for playing GTA IV, buy a 360 and play it the way it was designed to be played, on a console!

i just want a 1080p capable card which will up my status a bit. Ive got a **** hot monitor so need something to match it. Not interested in games. just video. any ideas anyone?
#17
you will most likely be wanting to buy something a bit more beefy for gta iv, very poorly optimised for pc. getting 30fps so its playable is a struggle unless you have a very fast pc.

most likely the card is fine for 1080p video with no gaming, doesnt take too much gpu power. If its better than an 8500gt as mentioned by someone else then it will be fine.
#18
will this fit in a Dell optiplex Gx280 Small Desktop? I'm thinking no because the graphics card wants a PSU of 400W at least, and i'm told my computer has a 210W power supply. Also the manufacturer's website says the card requires a double width PCI-E slot.....

On a side note, if it requires a double width slot, then how can u do crossfire....do motherboards come that big now?

Taken from http://www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-303.shtml

Connection to 400 Watt (550 for CrossFire™) or greater power supply with two 2x3-pin PCIe® power connectors is required.

PCI Express® based PC is required with one dual-width X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard

If you can already play HD Video with no problems at all on your current card, there is no point replacing it.

Scan are buying this for around £2.99 a unit, we got offered the same deal earlier today (I work for a UK IT Distributor) . They aren't new I believe and only carry a 3 month warranty...

i can only play 720p. gpu throws a wobbler at 1080p :(

I disagree about playing it on a console I much prefer controlling the cars (particularly those with massive body roll) on the keyboard with a hand free I can drink and drive :-D the helicopter is easier as well imo. The game engine clearly runs out of texture memory on consoles so for PC 512mb is the minimum imo.

It won't be long before PCs totally eclipse how it runs on consoles, but consoles more often than not will run it better for less outlay at the moment.

A simple question for the techie aware people: My PC only has a PCI-E 8x slot (and a couple 2x). Can I still use a card like this in it?

Thanks. PT

If you're on a lowish budget, it'll fit in your case & your PSU is powerful enough, get the "256MB HighTech Radeon X1950 Pro, IceQ3 v2, PCI-E (x16)" for £38 (it's a few places above the HD2600 in the list).

No, it will not work in the GX280 as the motherboard will only have AGP/PCI slots.

Unfortunately not - from the ATI specs:

PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard

What motherboard is it btw?

GTA4 is mostly CPU bound. You need a 3ghz Core 2 Duo or a Core 2 Quad to get playable framerates out of it. In terms of the GPU, a 4670 is the cheapest card I'd recommend.

Does it come with the DVI-HDMI adpater?

Do you mean it won't be long before a standard PC runs GTAIV better than the consoles can, or any/every game? If the former, then yes, but only because as PC hardware gets better and cheaper, it is still compatible with old PC games (generally speaking). That is a silly and obvious comment, though. The correct comparison would be, in 2 years, to see well the then current gen consoles can run GTAIV compared to the then current gen reasonably priced PC. I assume/fear it will be a win for consoles, again. I hope you see my point.

Anyone thinking of getting the 8600GT - DON'T :-)

Buy a 2nd hand 8800gt or new 9600gt for around £60.

I have the BFG 9600 GT - Worth every penny, drives a 22" monitor at full resolution and plays latest games, Crysis, Far Cry 2, etc all on High Settings

Probably not - from the official specs for this part number:

CABLE/ADAPTOR BUNDLED
No cable bundled in small box pack

Whereas a slightly different model states:

CABLE/ADAPTOR BUNDLED
- HDTV Cable
- S-Video Cable
- DVI to VGA/D-sub Adapters

No what is your point? I already said that and speaking of silly comments what is a standard PC.

OMG not another ridiculous PC vs console argument, its all in your head guys!! The acronym PC simply means personal computer
By all definitions modern consoles are personal computers, there is so little diff now, a few tweeks and a diff operating system, the cost per function is about the same etc etc but lets face it compared to volumes produced one area of concern that is coming up fast is reliability.
Both the xbox360 and PS3 are appearing extremely unreliable in comparison to an off the shelf PC on the hardware side.
As far as expense, yes the consoles are a little cheaper to purchase but based on very old PC technology so having reclaimed the R&D cost from C buyers they can the be resold as "next gen" consoles. or last gen PC's
Without the PC gaming market consoles would be too expensive to develop and sell at current cost and then everyone would lose.

The GX280 i have does have PCI-E slot, but just one and possible half size....unfortunately its the 210W PSU (dell proprietary) that's the problem:x

The motherboard quote was taken from the HIS digital website for the specifications of the card. i suppose it just meant that it needed a PCI-E slot...

Got this on Friday to replace my x1300 pro. Instead of 20fps @ 1680x1050 on CS:Source, I'm not getting 100fps. How good is that!

L4D runs alot better now and I can have it in a decent res. Doesn't play nice at 1680x1500 though, but I didn't expect it to.

It also overclocks by about 10% in core and memory without any artefacts or overheating, boosting my 3D mark 2006 score from about 4050 to about 4450.

I'll sell the x1300 for about £10-15 on ebay I'm sure, so this card is essentially almost free. I don't have the cash to get an HD4670 right now, which is as much as my PC can take before I need a better PSU, so this will tide me over until I can afford one.

Can't thank the OP enough for this!
