sorted byIt does indeed mention jam-making -- and it could be used in the making of jam, but at the bottling stage, not the jam-cooking stage.
It won't make jam for you.
Compare it with the Tefal machine (Amazon link above) which does make jam.
This has ten times the capacity and costs less than half.
This has no stirrer, no timer, and a maximum temperature of 100C.
Its a totally different type of tool.
And it won't make jam for you, sorry.
As happens occasionally with Lidl's marketing dept, things sometimes get translated strangely.
And this one would be hard to translate unless you actually understand what the thing is. And I'm not certain Lidl's marketing people do.
IMHO they'd do much better selling it primarily as a tea urn.
Note how the capacity is described in terms of JARS this 27 litre container isn't for 27 litres of jam - its for up to 14 big JARS of jam/pickle/whatever.
This is being offered as a waterbath for bottling.
You'd get an idea of what its for from here allotment.org.uk/all…php
Note also that this week Lidl are also offering clip-seal jars, though they are not claiming they are pukka preserving jars.
The americans go in for pressure "canning" putting their 'mason' jars (we use Kilner or Le Parfait) inside a big scary pressure cooker. But this is 'just' a water bath.
This thing is very useful indeed.
But its not a total jam-making solution! (Unless you fancy trying to make jam in a tea urn ... )
Ditto, I would love to make jam, I just can't be doing with the traditional way of making it. I will get one, if it's carp I'll take it back.
now all i need is a massive rice pudding maker.
You actually made me burst out laughing and choke!
:-D
Great product but too many kitchen gadgets to justify it - heated
Thanks.

I think a lot of the previous posts are misunderstanding what this thing is about. :?
"Go to deal" and click on the little picture within the big picture.
Jars inside, standing on a rack, up to their necks in water.
Its not for cooking jam - you need to heat jam above 100C to get to setting point - its for preserving jam (and pickles, etc).
I reckon its for the stage when you heat the full jars before fastening down the tops, thereby ensuring a 'vacuum' (or more accurately a reduced air pressure) in the jar above the jam - you know how the lids of commercial jams spring/click/flex upward once the 'vacuum has been released'?
The Tefal thing (linked above) is for cooking the jam - this is about bottling the jam/pickle/whatever.
Its a damn useful bit of kit -- but it ain't what people have been thinking it is!
It might be very useful to home brewers, beekeepers, 'sous vide' cooks ;-), and as a hot drink/hot water/tea urn -- as which it is pretty keenly priced. (I think - but can't see properly from the pictures - that the heating element is "concealed" under the floor of the water chamber (which is ideal for stuff like brewing a beer wort).
But please don't go pouring strawberries and sugar into it, thinking that jam is going to come out of that tap ... :whistling:
It's similar to the Brupacks boiler that costs £150 leylandhomebrew.com/ite…htm
Isn't it just! :-D
How convenient that the capacity should be SO well judged for a 'standard' 40 pint batch!
And I note that there's a hop strainer, sold separately by Leyland that should fit the back of the tap ...
This thing is HOT -- but NOT for COOKING jam !!!!
Sorry if I've disappointed you !
Thinking about it, one could say it was for "fruit preserves" and someone has probably 'improved' that translation to "jams".
If you were wanting it for pasteurising fruit juices, you could pay £170 for it ... vigopresses.co.uk/sto…b07
Worth looking at what they think you can do with it.
OK, so for the extra £130 you do get a timer ...
Seriously, this thing is CHEAP for what it is, even if it isn't what people first thought it was ...
Dont be deceived,,,,,
Have just lost 6 kilos of strawberries and as much sugar!!
Tried it both ways ..by putting the fruit in and adding sugar...not!!
And by following the recipe in the booklet...if you add the ratio of sugar to fruit and put into bowls overnight and then bottle(only two thirds mind) you are left with a bowl of syrupy sugar.
Having put it on for the required time, single layer, there was undissolved sugar left in the bottom....
Its going BACK......
Total waste of money and my time....
I agree..better sold as a tea urn!!
so £40 is a cheep alternative, and you can fit a whole turkey in as well
