One thing I did notice is that it comes with wired Keyboard and mouse, where the currently supplied from apple model comes with wireless. (Might be a slight difference in EDU destined SKU's)

Anyone purchasing, the wireless is a must, so factor in a few pennies for that aswell

not quite true, I still use windows machines (as in right now) but i do sooo prefer my Mac :-D
#14
would love this but just dont know what I would do with it, its to small to be used for any television/entertainment purposes and its to expensive just for gaming needs as id only spend half of that on a pc, but I WANT IT, such is the lure of Apple.
#15
That's some apple tax!

Sadly not.

Neither does it comes with a '1Gb super unine master magic sword GDDR graphics card' *

* with drivers that work 99% of the time.

I've just bought a Macbook Pro after using the iPhone for the past 2 years.

I've been a lifelong Windows user and it does actually make a nice change, only took a day or so to get used to it.

The build quality of Apple products is in a different league to any other manufacturer.

Not really, I have a July 09 24" iMac and probably wont be buying another Mac ever again, unless of course I find an insanely cheap/2nd hand one, even tho its definitely an amazing machine, not worth it at all for the specs you get.
#22
bought mine for... £1438 on education two weeks ago, so was slightly gutted BUT for two things.

If you buy this machine you are entitled to the education discount on the apple care plan. The non-educational price for this is £140. The educational price is £44 and you REALLY should get this as it represents excellent value for money (basically a 3 year warranty). If you've ever owned a Dell then you'll know how worthwhile a 3 year warranty is.

Also, apple are doing a decent promotion at the mo for anyone in education which is £130 rebate off any ipod including nano's touch's etc.

check this with an apple store, but I believe education isn't just defined as uni/higher ed, but also school so if you have a child or even pretend it's for a child you should get some if not all of a discount on your computer and the £130 rebate.

So, this IS a good deal (the wireless BT mouse and keyboards are really worthwhile) and the computer is fantastic.

We loved ours so much we bought two. Long story, but we do need both! And it has the best screen I have ever seen on any computer.

over £1300 and no blu-ray, nice!

That is very true.

This and the almost as expensive 27" Dell Ultrasharp are the only 27" screens with a 2560 x 1440 resolution on the market.

As a side point, although this is a great deal, students are still better of buying through the HE store. Although its £83 more expensive you would be eligible for the £130 rebate off an iPod Touch plus the inclusive 3-year hardware warranty. I'd want the warranty if your spending that much, as mentioned if the screen failed you would be left with no PC.

I usually consider Macs to be pretty overpriced, but considering the 27" panel that is in this iMac it is actually very reasonable in my opinion. It's the same one that can be found in the Dell U2711 monitor, which on it's own is over a grand on Dell's site (albeit a little cheaper elsewhere).

Of course, that's if you are picky about displays at all.
#26
What most people don't realise is these iMacs have pretty much the best monitor money can buy.

The same panel from Dell is over a grand and that's just for a screen:

http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=381164

These iMacs are seriously great buys and I'm seriously tempted to get one. It's just a shame they haven't refreshed the GPU yet as the Mobility 4850 is a quite weak especially if you want to run games at the huge native res of 2560 x 1440.

EDIT: Jammin, great minds :)

Not true, I Bought an iMac about 2 years ago and have just went back to PC, being able to build it yourself just makes so much more sense.
#28
I'm a developer, and use PC's all day at work.

But when I get home, I find tranquility and fun with my 24" iMac.

It's been brilliant for editing our wedding video, managing photos and just generally being reliable and there when we need it.

Can't recommend a Mac enough, and this is an excellent price.

I do like PC's; used to enjoy building them in my youth - but you can't put on price on the user experience of a Mac*

*Not an invite for someone to chip in with "Yes you can, about £500".

While this is a good deal for this product, I think this is food for thought - http://www.kyleconroy.com/apple-stock.php ;-) - A chart showing what you paid for various apple products over time would be worth now if you'd bought stock in the company instead.

Some of the early stuff is frightening but even something from a year ago (2009-06-08) like 'Apple MacBook Air "Core 2 Duo" 2.13 13" works out at $1799 of stock which goes up to $3,387 in value :w00t:

Of course, the stock won't help you do your coursework, but it might pay the tuition fees.

A March 09 24" iMac is $5513 on the chart, July probably is the same as the MacBook above.

I have the Dell U2711 and it has been a fantastic buy as the massive amount of working space you have makes photo or video editing work much easier as there's more space for the image/video and the various toolbars and editing windows.

However I wouldn't buy an all in one PC such as this as they're a pain to work with if any parts fail or you want to upgrade, I haven't opened one of these models but on an older one to get to the hard drive you had to go in through the front and take the TFT assembly out before you could get to it. That machine is still sitting gathering dust monitor and all although I believe on the 27in version of this machine you can still use it as a normal monitor albeit only with a single display port input.

Comparing the screen in this to a Dell U2711 is dumb... a screen is more than it's panel.
#39
PS. An alternative would be to wait until there's another 20% code for Very.co.uk. Make sure you use a credit card that is nearing expiration though! This is a great deal at the moment though – a 17% saving on a product that is rarely discounted.

Whats special about the Apple computer screen? I hear its really good.

How does it compare to lets say a Sony LCD or LED screen?
