Summary seems to be :
Not really 5* more like 4*
and : "LOCATION was an eye opener. When it said a small fishing village that's exactly what they meant. We found the area extremely poor, so much so, that we only ventured out of the hotel area once, and that was to take a bus trip to Hernonissis. It was like being back in Britain again, well Blackpool really. Plenty of gift shops and bars but not much else. If you are intending to have a relaxing holioday without leaving the Hotel then this is the break for you otherwise I would think again" - quote from Tripadvisor

cheap and pretty good hotel the weathers is going to make all the difference !

I live in Sisi and I know the area very well.
The Vasia hotel is a huge hotel, very nice, many people who go there go all inclusive so rarely leave the hotel.
The village is a nice small village, lots of restaurants around the habour and a very good bars.

Sisi is a good place for couples and families.

Keep in mind you are just a 15 Euro taxi ride away from Malia, so if you want night life, partying, drunkeness etc then it is not far away.

Bus routes from Sisi are ok, but you really need to know the times etc. If you gonna go anywhere better to book a coach through the tour operator or through a local agent.

Beaches, well there is the Bufos beach which is ok, but if you want endless sandy beaches then you need to go to Malia where there is mile after mile of beach, and if you go to the first beaches as you get towards Malia, you can avoid the youth! lol

All in all the area is good, plenty of places to eat, your usual tourist shops etc, some decent late opening bars. But no proper nightclubs, for that you need to go into Malia.

If you want to know anything else about the area feel free to ask me and i will give you an honest opinion.

PS. If you do book a holiday, grab a £5 taxi to the Bella Vista hotel on the way to the main road, and come say hi in the bar where I am usually sat.

I sayed in Sisi a couple of years ago and I'd advise against staying there if you like a good selection of bars and tavernas nearby. Sisi is pretty dead... there's hardly anything there at all. The best place to stay, IMO, is Stalis. This is where we went (15E taxi ride) almost every evening. Stalis is adjacent to Malia (but far enough away to be well away from the young chavs that stay in Malia) and is pretty-much perfect for a nice blend of nightlife, relaxing bars/tavernas by day and a great beach.

lol what a load of rubbish. you can stay at plenty of decent hotels for bargain rates if you shop around enough and can be flexible with dates.

Agree with this - went to Stalis 6-7 years ago and it was great. Was a great place called "Maria's" where we ate most nights - cheap, good food and plentiful.

We stayed in this very hotel in May last year and had absolutely no complaints.

We got the price down to £320 with a fair bit of haggling and thought we had a cracking deal so £299 is a great price.

The hotel was definitely above average for an all inclusive offering. It's a big hotel but is set over a large area so it doesn't feel like you are crammed in like cattle.
The food was generally very good with a large selection of both local and other offerings.
As mentioned earlier Sissi is a small place with not much in the way of nightlife but it does have some decent restaurants and is a lot more laid back than other places nearby (particularly compared to Malia!). Basically if you want an action packed location then this wont be for you.

We were concerned before we went about the weather but we had nothing to worry about. It was hot and sunny nearly every day (around 25 degrees).

One thing I would say is that it would be best to hire a car. We would probably have got cabin fever without one and there are some amazing places that you couldn't otherwise get to without a car ie. up into the mountains or to the town which gives you access to the island of Spinalonga which housed a leper colony until fairly recently.

If anyone is swithering over whether to book you could certainly do far worse than this place.

If that is what you want then you don't book to go to an all inclusive resort do you? I went to the Mtsis Rhoda last year and the same could be said about the surrounding area, but we went with the intention of staying within the resort as we had paid for all inclusive and the hotel and facilities were fantastic. It was a split choice between the Mitsis or the Aquis. We did hire a car one day which cost very little and went up into the hills for a great day out.

My parents have just rang up intending to book this deal. However total cost came to well over £500 each by the time you add on baggage, transfers etc(about the same as the brochure price). Also really bad flight times.

June is very hot, May is a bit cooler, bit still over 30 degrees every day.

July is the hottest month, probably too hot for most people

Stalis is nice enough, but it is exactly the same as every other seaside holiday resort around, it has no character.

Sisi has character, it is more about just finding a nice spot and relaxing. The Vasia is pretty much in the middle of the first part of Sisi and the habour is about a 2 minute walk.

Well, I stayed Half Board when I went to Sisi, but not everyone who goes AI is happy to stay within the confines of their hotel 24/7... it's often nice to go out and explore on a daily basis and there's not much to explore in Sisi. A car is a MUST if you've got any desire whatsoever to see more than a handful of very quiet tavernas and the small harbour; there's nothing within walking distance of Sisi. Having said that, our hotel (the Kalimera Kriti) was really in the middle of nowhere.

Crete is a most beautiful Island, so much so that i go twice a year every year. A car is a must. Even if you are AI it's so cheap to eat out and about in the traditional cretan villages away from tourism....you wont need much extra cash at all. We go to Sissi each trip on one occassioon for lunch or breakfast and a walk around. Its beautiful. Yes it is quiet, but its something different.
The Vasia Beach is a nice hotel, but very busy and in a small area. If you are lucky enough to get a private pool with your room then this wont be an issue for you. Dont be put off by what people have written on here. Go for it! And if you dont want to go AI, i can recommend Stalis, Plaka (East & West of the Island), Geourgopolis, Vamos, Gerani, Matala, Kissamos. The Southern side of the Island is less affected by tourism and very beautiful. Crete has everything for everyone!

Spot on! Can also recommend Elefonnissi, Agia Marina, Almerida and Kournas Lake. Avoid Malia which is an 18-30 dump.

Nice days out are Chania & Rethymnon but wouldnt want to stay there as far too busy / traffic.
