2KG Rooster potatoes. Half price. If you haven't tried these before this is a perfect opportunity.

Described as an "uber tuber" by The Independent, the Rooster is giving the phrase 'hot potato' a whole new meaning. It's not only Irelands most popular potato variety, it is fast becoming a runaway best seller in mainland Britain too. Easily distinguished by its red skin and shallow 'eyes', it is extraordinarily versatile: you can boil, bake, steam, chip, roast or fry it, as the recipes you'll find on this website bear witness.

Initially, this red-skinned all-rounder was only available in Scotland but our spuds sales have been so encouraging that supermarket chains decided to make the Rooster available nationally. The Rooster was recently celebrated in the Scottish Food & Drink Excellence Awards, winning the title of 'Best Fruit or Vegetable Product 2005', not to mention also taking first in class as 'Best Healthy Eating Marketing Campaign 2005'.

I've never tried these before - always wanted to though - what are they like? What's the best way to cook them?

Chip, roast or mashed. It doesn't matter. They're even good in curry dishes. They cook really quick and very fluffy and tasty. I've got some in the oven roasting now!

I bought some of these before, was just about to post this deal

Having ate these for years while living in Dublin I was so delighted to see them hit our shelves. They are without a doubt the tastiest potato you could ever get!!

Can anyone tell me if they think the Roosters that are around at this time of year aren't as nice as the ones you get in the summer?

I made mash to die for last year and the one's out of my latest bag are pretty rubbish.

These are great boiled a load tonight.
Some boiled for my GF and mashed the rest for me and my son and we loved them.
They are great spuds and a steal for that price.

Love these spuds! Bargain at 79p.

Shows how much I know! I thought all potatoes would taste pretty much the same when mashed up.

:) I threw some in a Kleftiko this week as well, ideal.

Having said that I would never buy these 'full price' as they are just not worth it. In every bag I've had at least two of the spuds were rotten. Gimmicky all things considered. There are better spuds to be had, Lidl's regular brands are just as good but far more consistent, don't believe the hype.

(all this for a bag of spuds! :w00t:)

I find these to be the best for Jacket Potatoes as the skin stays nice and crisp while the inside doesn't go all mushy - also look far better as well without the pot-holes of the regular spuds. Have to say never had a bad one either ... so maybe us Scots are getting preferential treatment from our celtic cousins!!

Lidl @ Transit Way Plymouth are charging £1.49 just went there this morning :x

Buy these from Costco, around £2.79 for a 5kg bag.

Superb potatoes.

Yes, I noticed that too. My last lot just went to watery mush when I boiled them for mash. Very disappointing as they are usually fantastic.

These are way better than Lidls own potatoes.
Once bought a bag of Lidls own...brand was Estima...absolute rubbish..no taste whatsoever, and lots had black bits in them.
