Nice! No need to pay anything other than £10 to get the Broadband. No line rental etc...

Good price, Many people on 10mb "unlimited" only get 4mb anyway, This is much cheaper!
#3
"unlimited" - gah

Just be aware that your speed will be halved 4pm-12pm due to throttling
#4
Yeah, unlimited so long as you don't go over a d/l limit that you have no way of checking. Muppets!
Only use Virgin as a last resort :)

Your speed will be halved only if you download 750mb in one day , then between 4pm-12pm your speed is throttled for 4 hrs . 750mb is not a lot I suppose but if your downloading large files budget for this , if your only surfing & emailing then no problem .
#6
Actually it always is unlimited , they are just varying the speeds . My own opinion is that you aren't actually getting what you pay for sometimes , 20mb should be 20mb NOT 5mb throttled .

Anybody know if this will be any use for Xbox 360 online play?
If not does anyone know of another company that I could get broadband with without a phone?

I'm subscribed to this service and it seems to work fine on Xbox live. I've used it both by plugging my xbox360 directly into the router or by wireless network, and both are good.

Not sure about if you're heavy downloader as I don't tend to download many huge files or anything. Hope this helps.

I think NTL and Telewest are all part of Virgin media now.
I rang them the other week and got someone from India who spoke very poor English and didn't have a clue how to sort the problem that I was having:x

Is this on all the packages or just the 10mb??
#17
While this is a good price the unlimited bit of it isnt strictly true

2mb is throttled after 350mb ( I was mistaken , I thought it was 750 for 2mb users )

4mb is throttled after 750mb

10mb is throttled after 3gb ( soon to be a speed of 20mb if it isn't already )

If you want to download a big file do what I do , between midnight & morning .

If it was limited you would be cut off , you aren't so it isn't .

The service is unlimited with speed restrictions for heavy users .

To be honest wished I never joined virgin media....had constant problems....ive either had no internet or no email for hours or days at a time and all I get is that there is a fault and engineers are working on it...one week I was without broadband for 2 days I got an excuse of fault in my area again....I thought strange my neighbours broadband is working and was told they were on a different server to me

Turns out he was a idiot.... as was not even a fault in my area and went without broadband because of what some idiot told me , who I couldn’t barely communicate with.

I had an Indian guy slam the phone down on me because I wanted to complain about him as he was just useless and didn’t know what he was talking about.

In the end i demanded to speak to someone who could actually understand English and speak English and i finally got my problem resolved.

I was with telewest previously and they were great but its now just gone down hill
:x

Well if the speed is restricted then the theoretical maximum download is reduced and therefore its limited to what you could achieve - anyway its semantics - but ppl should be aware VM is not the wonderful service it pretends to be

I have been with them for years and the service has gone really bad lately. E-mail access is appauling. 2m Broadand is often like 56k for me. Customer support is 50/50. I have called them about a few thigs lately and half the time you get an idiot or someone who can't speak english very well. My advice is; if you get an idiot, just say you will call back and do it straight away.

Last week I got an idiot who said my pc was infected with spyware because netstat said I had more than 10 connections open. He wouldn't entertain the possibility that there was something wrong with their network. Didn't even ask what internet apps I had open or anything.

I called back yesterday and got an excellent cs rep who actually look into the problem and found a problem on my local UBR and told me to call customer service and ask for a refund due to loss of service.

Am thinking iof leaving them if things don't improve though. The e-mail access problems are really bad and they do maintenenace once a week lately which means you can't access mail for most of a day every week.

What about existing customers, I'm on the 4mb for £25, but I see on the website its £17. Will they be giving me it at the reduced price now?

I would ring up and ask , if you say you will go else where they usually cave in.

You have to call customer relations though and say you wish to be disconnected as you have had a better offer from else where ;)

Dont worry they will not disconnect you ....if the worst comes off it and they offer you nothing and say fine we will disconnect you then just call back in a day or so and cancel the disconnection
#25
Since Virgin took over the service has gone from ok to appalling!
The people at customer service don't have a clue and after waiting for an eternity to speak to a human being you get transferred to someone else who hasn't a clue etc etc..........
They lost sky but I stuck with Virgin.
Then they managed to loose my phone connection and despite hours on the phone to about 20 different people and still no connection after 2 months I told them I was leaving.
They then sent me a bill for £1200 for a second internet connection I didn't have. This took 2 weeks to sort out!
Never again!
But in favor to this deal I had no problems whatsoever with their internet connection.

weve been doing that for the last year (3 months at a time!) With telewest but they always make you work for the extra £8 a month..

Weve been with telewest over 6 years now, when I overuse the service I just unplug my router for about 5 mins and Im no longer throttled :P
#28
Hi, My current speed is 10.0 mbps, if i go for this deal will there be much difference?

I've had this package since around 2000 and am paying £25 per month. When we first signed up for it it was telewest not virgin media.

as for someone asking about NTL above, Telewest bought NTL a few years ago and just recently Virgin Media bought telewest so both are run my virgin media now.

I would be very interested in the £10 deal to cut our monthly bills by £15! but if its not going to be as good then theres not much point, please can someone shed some light on this?
#29
I've been with NTL now Virgin Media for years.
They did do a lot a throttling initially, and capping a couple of years ago, and kicked me down to the 512k service from their 2mb service for overusing their unlimited service???

Anyway, been back on the 4mbit service for about a year or more, and I can download around 40gb a day - no caps - regularly....

At present .... unlimited actually is unlimited... for me anyway !!

Heat added.
Think I'll move down to this tier and save myself £15 a month.

My download speed is fine , been randomly testing for the last week or so BUT my e-mail service is absolutely awful . Constantly after 4pm everyday it goes into meltdown & till 12pm it is unreliable , other hours its fine so something is going on .

I phone up Virgin/NTL every six months, and they charge my 2MB rate at £10 per month. I have been doing bthis ever since I joined up - about two years ago. I have almost never paid more than a tenner per month. I might phone them again, and see if they can apply it for teh next 12 months (it'll save me a phone call!)
#35
With that fair usage policy I would stear well clear of this deal ... it is the old chestnut "unlimited" but of course it is very "limited" once you start getting throttled to 56k dial up speed half the time (trust me you won't be so happy saving £15 off your monthly bill then).
But if you are happy paying that price for dial up and only surf the net and check emails this would be fine ... this countries broadband is a shambles thanks to BT.

I have been trying to receive an email to my telewest blueyonder email account with outlook express for over an hour now and it keeps timing out after 60 seconds. I've cancelled it and tried again and again and again and it just wont come through. I am really not happy with this at all. It would seem because of this i am having the same trouble as you two above. What area do you live in? I am in doncaster and am getting really hacked off with it now!
#37
I haven't used the Blueyonder email server for years, but when I last did, it was awful - constant downtime. Worth shelling out a few quid a year for your own domain :)

I've had a broadband connection for the last 7 years, and it's been wonderful. I always get the full 10mb, and the hardly any downtime apart from scheduled maintenance.

I need my email to be working 24/7, both my wife and I rely on it for our businesses and this is unacceptable. The sad thing is, there is no point in complaining to a company that won't respond.
