This is a collection of all of 2pac's best music in one 3 cd compilation.

During his short life, Tupac Amaru Shakur (a.k.a. 2Pac) became a living symbol of his generation's frustration and rage. As a rapper, his songs detailed the misery, desperation, and violence of ghetto life. As a personality, he readily embodied the false bravado and urban indifference that reflect a tough, unforgiving upbringing. As an actor, he was good-looking and charismatic. His appearances in five feature films suggest he had great potential on the big screen in a variety of personas. As a musician, Tupac captured the World s imagination, selling millions of albums across the five continents

Great singer, but another who has managed to glamourize being a gangster.. no offence, but he is no Jim morrison, or any other real artist, same as all the other rap artists, make the sales on the back of samples from lots better songs.. Every rap song that has ever sold big, steals a tune from another better record.. sorry, 99% of them do.. I own a tupac album, but seriously, the way people go on about him like he was a John Lennon etc, just makes me laugh tbh.

no I understand totally what he was saying, however, me being white I couldn't possibly understand!!.. I live in Birmingham UK, I understand totally.. When will people move on from racism, in places like my city, since the 70's we all grew up with best mates being black/asian/chinese, it's funny, but it's only the whites/chinese who don't seem to feel the need to carry this chip on the shoulder from the 70's around with them.

70s? There is still a lot of racism in the world right now in 2009. I agree that mr. pac is slightly over rated but still worth a listen sometimes.

Tupac never was a singer and has never sung..

Why is he not a Jim Morrison? Not a huge fan of Tupac myself, but of hip hop/rap I am. Nonsense what I hear about them not being 'real' artists. Fine the likes of 50cent and co are not, but genuine Rap artists with orignal lyrics and stories most definetly are.

Ignorance is bliss, once again. First off, he was never a singer, he was a rapper. Just like David Beckham is a football player, and not a snooker player.
You have zero knowledge on the history or basics of HipHop. HipHop started in the Bronx during the early 70's, where most people were struggling to live, let alone afford musical instruments. They used turntables to make music out of pre-existing and released music, mainly 'pop' music of that time, a lot of soul, motown etc...
That's evolved over the next few years, but still kept the same basics... samples.

HipHop was born around samples, its not 'stealing'. You are also pretty naive to believe that all rappers are also producers, who create their own music. Tupac certainly didn't, so any of his tracks that included samples, we're not 'stolen' by him, but the producer. (read; sampled)

And as for glamorizing being a gangster... please be aware, most HipHop 'singers' are products of their environment, telling stories about their life, experiences and surroundings. Talking about something, isn't advertising it. Or did you expect the son of a leading Black Panther activist, who grew up in Harlem, NYC to write about butterflies and skipping ropes?

Tupac hadn't glamorized being a gangster, any more than Jim Morrison, John Lennon or The Beatles had glamorized drug taking.

No he did what most famous people who aren't particularly good do, die young and be famous.. next you'll be telling me jade goody was wonderful.. tell me again why tupac is dead?

For me music is about the sound and the singing, sorry if that doesn't conform these days .. and yes tupac does actually sing, on the 'samples' as choruses', granted most of the time he is rapping, but then he does sing, and be honest, most rap records reach into the charts etc because of the samples.. NOT the message eh?
Tell me Tupac was as good as or better than Bob Marley,? both had a message, but I know who wins hands down everytime.

PS: United.. tell me why 50cent and co are not exactly?

Who put that tracklist together? No Changes or Thugz Mansion!?

EDIT: Also he has made at least one completely sung track - Dopefiend's Diner

Funny that you mention dying young and being famous considering the same could be applied to Jim Morrison, Hendrix, Cobain and a few others. But that's besides the point as you seem not to understand what music is.

Since the beginning of time, music has been about storytelling. Specifically it often told stories of romance and also criminality. The reason Tupac was and is such and important artist is because he told stories about what it was like growing up in his area. You might think that racism is so yesterday, but it wasn't for him and many others like him.

Sure he sampled some great songs to set the words to, but he managed to elevate them and change the meaning. If all you think music is is a nice tune, then ride an elevator and enjoy the muzak. If you want a nice voice, listen to American Idol.

I personally wouldn't recommend either of those though.

My favourite 2pac lyrics:

You know it's funny when it rains it pours
They got money for wars, but can't feed the poor.
Tupac Shakur, Keep Ya Head Up

& my favourite poem by him:

In the event of my Demise When my heart can beat no more
I Hope I Die For A Principle or A Belief that I had Lived 4
I will die Before My Time Because I feel the shadow's Depth
So much I wanted 2 accomplish Before I reached my Death
I have come 2 grips with the possibility And wiped the last tear from My eyes
I Loved All who were Positive In the event of my Demise

All his best tracks combined into one album....I suppose no need to buy if he already has all of the albums but if he is a real collector, then he may want to add it to his collection.

Pretty ironic coming from the Jim Morrison and John Lennon fan. Jade Goody was not wonderful, far from it, but thats a whole new discussion.
Tupac is dead because he was assasinated, much like John Lennon.

madwelsh
and be honest, most rap records reach into the charts etc because of the samples.. NOT the message eh?

This is the truth is all popular 'chart' music. Hence why pop music such as Britney Spears and Girls Aloud does so well, people don't like the songs for the message, they are catchy any often annoying melodies.

madwelsh
Tell me Tupac was as good as or better than Bob Marley,? both had a message, but I know who wins hands down everytime.

As good or better than Bob Marley at what? Scrabble? You do realise you are comparing a Reggae artist to a Rapper? And 'wins' at what?

madwelsh
PS: United.. tell me why 50cent and co are not exactly?

Do not confuse artists like Tupac with 50cent and co. They are different worlds apart.
Just like I'm not comparing the band "Busted" with the Beatles, both are rock, are they not?

TheCribs
Doors are great and so is tupac but what ****** me of is all these white little sprogs walking and talking like there black lol.

What exactly is 'talking like they're black'? How do black people talk? I didn't realise upon birth black people automatically had a destinctive accent. Also, how do black people walk? You realise you are being borderline racist through pure ignorance?
I hope you realise people aren't born with accents, accents are due to their surroundings.
Just like if a white baby from yorkshire were to live and grow up in Jamacia, he'd grow up with a Jamacian accent. Does this make him 'think hes black'?

TheCribs
I also hate boy racers who drive to DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB DUMB then crash there car into a tree that cost them a tenner from the scrap yard that they have spent thousands on trying to make it look like a ferrari lol.

How do you measure the greatest rapper of all time? Without a yardstick you can't keep saying no.
If its popularity then Jay is bigger than Pac. If its album sales Jay is bigger than Pac. If its money generated then Jay is bigger than Pac. What's your yardstick? You can't say your own personal preference because everyone has their own.

You could measure it on who is the most obscure choice I could make, thus enhancing my credibility and giving the illusion of wisdom...

It's a tough one. I would personally put Jay Z and Tupac in my top 10, but it's like guitarists. Some will put Eddie Van Halen or Joe Satriani at the top because they're technically brilliant, whilst others would put Slash or Clapton higher because they think they have greater emotional range.

Great album, but where's Changes?

1) Big L
2) Jay-Z
3) Andre 3000
4) Common
5) Big Pun/Ghostface/Tupac (All for completely different reasons)

To say Jay-Z isn't even in the top 50 is a pretty weird statement, Reasonable Doubt alone does that. His more recent albums haven't been too strong, but up to the Black Album every album was at least 8 or 9/10.
Don't dislike him purely because hes a household name, and you want to show how 'underground' and cool you are. ;)

lol, but yes don't get me wrong I also would place 2pac up there. I find Jay too pop nowadays.
Lots of his most memorable tunes are not on there. Hit em up, and Brenda's baby don't get on there, but stuff like Late night does.
Oh and nobody's mentioned Biggie yet so I may as well.... Biggie. There, all is well now.
