im agreeing with you. i stated the spin rate because it was missing.

This is pretty much a standard price now for a 2tb. Wouldn't expect to pay over £100.

Not voting either way.

As an owner of both I can safely say Samsungs are better.

I have both in the 1.5TB varieties and prefer the WD drives. Also have had far more WD drives around our offices over the years and yet had far more Sammys fail

Yeah i dont think people realise that this drive and some other 3.5" 5400rpm drives of this generation are quicker than alot of 7200rpm from the last generation also technically should be a better option for storage.
#16
Scan says these are "limited to one per customer". Yet I can add more than 1 into the basket at that price. Anyone know if you can order more than 1 of these at once?

It's a 3.5" desktop drive so it wont fit in your laptop.

You need to look for a 2.5" laptop drive.

The PS3 also takes 2.5" drives. In fact I believe the ps3 is a bit more restrictive in that it only takes 9mm high 2.5" drives.

I hope for your sake that you are joking about trying to fit it in to the PS3!:-D

Yep, our older Sammys (about 2-5 year) have over a 50% fail rate so I avoid for important data. Maxtors were pretty similar in the IDE 80GB days so we stopped using them too. Before that it was the early 7200RPM IBM drives. Yet to have many fails at all from Seagate or WD drives, despite having large numbers of them. Haven't had a Hitachi fail on us yet either, but we only have a couple of them.
#27
coming up as £93.34 for me

edit: ive got it working now...

and i have 15 samsung drives, never had a problem with any, its the brand i choose over everything else :)

Ive sold many samsungs to other people too and theyve never had an issue either. Colleagues in my office used to use WDs or Seagates but they had a LOT of failures, they now also use samsungs, but everyone has their own experiences i guess, just luck of the draw.

I've had one of everything fail (quite literally) over the years! I would be stuck if I didnt take a leap of faith buying from one of them again :D

EXxactly. All drives fail eventually. Some brands quicker than others, Seagate Samsung and WD are the only real options even then there is an element of luck as to how long it will last.

Agreed, you can't not buy at all due to previous exp, I would hate it if I got so **** I was swapping drives out on new machines as a preventative measure.

Is 5200rpm not fast enough for reading data like editing HD movies? I want to get an additional hard drive to store videos on to edit. This one looks good http://www.scan.co.uk/product.aspx?ProductId=29027

Gizmouk, not necessarily...imho, the recent $ strength may mean prices may not fall much further in the short-term.
