**New Lower Price!** (27-07-10)
Go to the "Today Only" section to get this price. Not the fastest drive by a long shot, but great for archival, NAS etc.

Great price for 2TB!

Free shipping via avforums. See hukd forums for details.

HKUD website wouldn't let me link to the "todayonly" section for the deal, to many duplicates maybee...

5 Year Warrenty Gets good reviews too :
Review

"Our Recommendation

If you want to give a power user the heebie jeebies, start talking about low-power components. For enthusiasts, low-power, or 'Green', are just alternate terms for low-performance. And in most cases, that's true. This isn't one of them.

Seagate's Barracuda LP 2TB drive tries to walk the line between performance and power savings by goosing the drive's rotational speed from 5400RPM to 5900RPM. Combined with the beefy 32MB buffer and four densely packed platters, we found that Seagate's LP model succeeded somewhat in its attempt to up the performance ante, even managing to surprise us when pitting the drive against an older 7200RPM model. If you're rocking an older hard drive, you won't skip a beat by making the jump to the 2TB Barracuda.

Nevertheless, this Barracuda isn't meant to drive your dream machine, and instead is much better served sitting in the passenger seat. Or in the living room. By cramming 2TB into a single drive, the Barracuda LP shines for frequent backup duties, HTPC recording, archiving movies, and any other situation where storage trumps raw performance. And at a little over 11 cents per gigabyte, while not the best bang-for-buck you can get, you won't have to explain to the wife (or husband) where the paycheck went.

Summed up, the Barracuda LP 2TB offers a ton of capacity, better than expected performance, and a decent value, and the low power consumption means you can sleep soundly knowing you're not offending mother nature."

One of the lesser performing out of the 2TB drives, but also one of the most energy efficent (peaks at around 6.8w usage).
I'd personally go for the 2x Spinpoint F3's drives for £85 when the offers on as they outperform 1TB drives well over its price, and peak at 7.2w whilst spinning at 7,200 rpm :)

That deal has expired now..
With 2x1tb F3 would it not be 2x7.2kw 14.4Kw ?
The F3's are nice drives though. 3 year warrenty vs the 5 year on these. I suppose it depends if you need the performance.

The deal is still live. The Go to Deal link goes direct to the HDD instead of the Today Only section (left side of Scan homepage).
If you go into Today only, it will reflect the correct price :)

Nice price - I bought one recently for £83.97 and thought that was a fantastic deal! Ideal for an always on back-up server like my HP Mediasmart.

Both me and my mates payments were declined. Shorty received an email afterwards saying they are having problems and to use another method of payment. This was at 3pm. Not sure what the situation is now.

Must be today then! Tempted by this offer, cheap for masses of storage! Would be a b*stad if you put everything on this and it died though....

No. These are 3.5" drives, PS3's need 2.5" drives.

Nope, don't forget thats peak usage. Drives use very little power when they aren't active, the F3's are also part of the 'ecogreen' range.
Not trying to knock your post by the way as I still think it's great value. Voted hot to get it onto the front page :)

I thought there were 2 models of F3 the 7,2000 version which is fast,
the ecogreen version which is 5,400 rpm and considerably slower but energy efficient.

You are talking 3 years for them to come out.

This drive is 500GB/platter.

The 640GB/Platter is this years drive and why these 500GB/platter drives are being firesold off at the moment.

This time next year will be 750GB/Platter (which cannot form 4TB even with 5 platters).

And then 2012 the 1TB/Platter which will see 4TB drives come out.

Just ordered one too! I've been backing up films from LoveFilm free trials and realised I've got 30gb free on my second 1tb drive. This should do nicely for storing my games, apps etc.
Cheers!

Back up to £79.84 , which is still pretty good value. Keep an eye on the scan daily-deals, as they quite often repeat the same offers!
#31
Back on special again today , if anyone missed out!
#32
anyone noticed how much this thing clicks? quite noisy at times. think its a spin up/down issue and nothing terminal like a death click although it does seem the latest big seagates come in for a bit of reliability stick!
