Powerline adapters are the ideal way of creating a home network or complementing an existing Wi-Fi connection. By providing a secure high speed connection and great service quality, Powerlines allow you to watch Standard and High Definition (HD) movies as well as play online games without interruption or pixilation; share photos, music and other media stored on a PC or compatible storage device anywhere in your home. Powerline Adapters will help you reach those areas of your home where Wi-Fi signal is either too weak or cannot reach. Other usages of Powerline adapters include IP-CCtv surveillance cameras, setting up an office network without the need to add more wires or rewire if you change your office configuration.

Features

High speed data transmission
Supports speeds of up to 200Mbps. This can easily satisfy applications such as video, gaming, digital music, file sharing, and Internet browsing in the home. ###DS2 Compatible

This product is compatible with all other DS2 powerline adapters - it isn't compatible with the "Homeplug" adapters. ###No Extra Wires Needed

Every home has its own power line network. Users don't have to use extra cable for network connection in their home. ###Plug & Play

To make a network connection in the home, users just plug the adapters into the outlets without configuring any settings. ###Extends connecting range and eliminates dead spots Unlike wireless technology, the Powerline technology can cover in excess of 99% of the home. ###More outlets than other wired solutions It's more convenient to make the connection in the home. On average, there are 45 outlets in a home, while; MoCA (over coaxial) and HPNA (over phone line) only have around 3-5 outlets.

dont think so

I already have these and would like to add another outlet, the one that my router goes into has an 'A' at the end of the serial number (showing you which one is which). Would it be ok to buy this pair for extra outlets? Can the 'A' one be used as an outlet?

great price , i have 4 of these already and use them all round the house . quite simple to add extra outlets after a few seconds of button pressing . highly recommended

am i right in thinking that this is saying 200mbps but they ship them with only cat5 cables so you will only achieve a speed not exceeding 100mbps.

If you want the supposed max speed this can give then you need to go out and purchase Cat6 replacement cables.

Mine struggle to send low bitrate HD movies (around 4mb/s) from one room to another when more than one device is connected to the network, so I doubt anyone will get more than 10mb/s let alone 100. So even if you went and bought the cat6 cables you'd notice no difference whatsoever. Still, theyre good enough for gaming (most of the time) at least.

Your still waaaaaay better off with these than wireless though.

You don't need Cat6 as Cat5 will be fine, they will work 100 each way, hence the 200Mbps label

I'm using Cat5 on a set of 200Mbps and get 180 and above but you need to half that.

These are good enough to stream HD Quality movies around your home.

The 200 mbps is actually correct, but a bit of a marketing ploy. As this is the Full Duplex Rate (data being transferred and received at same time) - this is 100mbps transmit, 100 mbps receive simply added together!

These still work ok but dont expect anything near 100mbps, in fact I dont think i get more than 10mbps - i haven't had any issues streaming to PS3 etc but then again I haven't tried anything HD.

Is that the same with the 85mb ones? 42.5 each way? Never used these before.

Hmm, my parents have 8 meg Orange ADSL (about 6 meg in reality) would you recommend the 85 meg Orange ones at £30, or these 200 meg BT ones at £40? No HS or video streaming, purely just internet access.
#21
One piece of advice - these don't work with other power adaptors as far as I know so if you think you might need more than a couple buy them now.

They have a different Chipset inside.

85's would do perfectly well, I had the 85's and the only issue I had was streaming video to the PS3 and I can't see your parents wanting to do that but for a few extra quid you are future proof.

Hope that helps, I'm off to walk the dogs :-D

10% Quidco making is aroun £36, cheap!!!!

These and other 200mb ones are junk.

I have 85mb ones and they stream fine, except mkv files, and then the stutter. thought it was the plugs so bought ones like these and they still stutter, its the ps3 someone told me.

Went back to my old ones and they are great, had all the right codecs, and my whole house was re-wired in 2008 so its up to date.

its a gimik

I have a pair of these and I use them with a WD TV live to stream stuff from my computer to the TV, they work very well. The occasional stutter from high bitrate MKV files but for AVI files they cope very well. You should be able to stream stuff to the Sony as it has the capability to play these files via network.

How much electricity do these things use?
#29
Do these only allow 1 device to use the internet or does it have more than 1 ethernet port or do I have to purchase another ethernet switch?
#30
these are still cheaper at dabs, even though they have went up slightly from a few weeks ago.

Apparently you will be able to connect to your PC, or any Network Attached Storage (NAS) after an update in the summer.
#32
I use 3 of these, so more than 2 can be purchased, and other pairs can be reprogrammed to the main master

A lot of questions (eg, power usage) from the manual - http://www.shop.bt.com/content/uni2/documentation/4z2j/pg902_user_guide_august_2008.pdf

Cat 5e supports Gigabit.

Yeah it can but only by using exceedingly high quality cabling, not the rubbish we all get given when purchasing this type of equipment or any routers for that instance.

Best investment when buying equipment like this is the wires and cables should be bought from another viable source. I use Belkin as my main supplier for everything and tend to chuck the enclosed cables with all these products in a drawer somewhere.

The difference between the 2 cables was noticable instantly especially when streaming huge HD movies.

quidco shouldnt be taken into account with deals on here, as its not guaranteed and not everyone uses it.

so given that these are available cheaper somewhere else, then this is a cold deal.

they only have 1 ethernet output but i plug that to a 5 port switch and run several things at once, no issues at all

if you buy two packs, each pack will have a base unit and a slave, what you need to do once you get a pair up and running is connect another one and let it search for the base and then connect the final one and also let it search. the searching is done by holding down a button for a set length of time till it flash's. i forget exactly as once its setup you never do this again and its been ages since i did mine but if anyones stuck i will figure it out again ;)

These are great I've had advent ones in the past and had nothing but trouble with them, I have mine connecting a HA cluster to my main network without any problems.
