If you do not overclock will there be any gain in using RAM like these compared to the bog standard Dell offerings?

I.e. if I install this in my Dell vostro say, will there be any performance gains at all?

Thanks,

Depends what you already have in there, but it's definitely a better option to buy and install your own RAM than to pay Dell's prices for a little bit more pre-installed. If you only have 1GB of RAM then adding this would improve performance (if you have 4 RAM slots add it, if only 2 then replace the Dell with it), but if you already have 1.5GB+ not much to be gained from this.

What I mean is just say I buy 4GB of cheap ram, and buy 4GB of this ram - will there be any performance gains using the OCZ?

Thanks for replying.

I'm not too sure if there'd be much, if any, performance difference between the two, presuming they are both 800MHz 4-4-4-15, and the generic aren't mislabelled (does happen). What you are really paying for with branded RAM from a good brand is the use of supposedly better components, better heatsinks, better stability and that all important warranty.

But if you found 4GB of unbranded or cheaper RAM which didn't cause you any problems I doubt there'd be much performance difference.

Unlike some components (monitors for example) there's virtually no difference between two sticks of ram with the same specifications so dell ram rated at 800Mhz and 4-4-4-15 will perform exactly the same as this ram.

Whether faster ram has much of an effect depends on your processor and the speed of your current ram (since Dell does change over time), but with current core 2 duo processors the increase from expensive memory tends to be rather small, generally under 5%.

Will it stay this price or is it an offer
#8
I can't see any mention of it being an offer, but around this time last year prices tumbled to around this level, before rising again in Q1 08
#9
either can i, just a price drop i spose then. I hate it when things go cheaper when you only just buy them. Thats life i spose, deal with it. lol

That's computers and computer components for you =(

Gotta EXPIRE this as its NOT that price anymore. Wasnt sure if it was a new deal or a new price, but it has now gone up to normal now. Missed this when it was on offer :(
