Picked up a Technika 3m 24 carat gold plated HDMI lead from my local tesco.

It was in the reduced section but the shelf price was £1.00 and they had to scan the original barcode, not the reduced yellow one, so may be in other stores.

(was just about to get one from poundland as well but that is only 1m)

We get it.. you can get HD cables for a quid. Can we stop these posts? This isn't anything new.

Iam sure any HDMI cable over 1 metre has to be a very good quality (Technika isn't very good for HDMI), especially if you are pumping out 1080p signals. Whether £90 QED cables are any better from the £30 cables is another arguement, but this may be okay for Sky digital / 720p signals.

Up to about 10 meters, ALL HDMI cables can handle about 90MBit/sec and 1080p/25fps is around 7.5MBit/sec. Everything sent along them is digital, so you don't get signal degradation like analogue transmissions. Although once you start getting to 50MBit and above (I think) higher quality cables will start making a difference.

Nett 98p can't be bad for a GOLD HDMI....at 3 metres i think i'll rsend it off to gold-for-you and the meltdown must be worth more :whistling: Well spotted....HOT!

I think it's safe to say that 'gold plated connectors' make no difference?

Odd fact: In studies, when you use a gold plug in a non-gold socket, (or a non-gold plug in a gold socket) the metal corrodes faster than non-gold on non-gold.
This was from an Engadget article a few months back.

Stick it in Dale Winton's gold for cash bag and make ££££££'s

True my friend. After a while a Schottky barrier diode is created between the surfaces but a quick wiggle would break most of it down. If you've got ram with gold contacts in a non gold connector motherboard you might have to reseat the ram after an extended period of time. It's not something to really worry about, we're not talking about the contacts rotting away after a year or anything like that, just don't get conned into thinking gold = better.

I'd appreciate it if we didn't stop these posts as it's a great find. This is probably why there has been so much heat added?

May be true for TVs etc - but can't go wrong with an HDMI cable!

This isn't true; as it's a digital signal you either get the data or you don't. Paying more won't get you better quality.

How is it a great find? It seems to be store specific and not only can you get HDMI cables from the pound shop, but you can get them off the net for around a pound anyway without looking very hard at all. The fact it's gold plated means nothing whatsoever. Every day there's a new HDMI cable post. Surely you don't buy a new one each time? HDMI cables are cheap, we get the idea!
#29
Whether you pay £1 or £100 for a HDMI cable, it will still be the same quality. Did anyone watch the programme where they tested loads and all were equally as good ?

I personally think £1 for a branded 3m HDMI cable is good value - I'd pay it for sure ! Infact I'm of to Tesco tomorrow to try my luck.

HDMI leads either work or they don't. Over long runs it may make a difference but £1 for a 3 metre HDMI lead is very good. Providing it works.

Hot, if you can find any.

Not true they can half work where you get speckles and artifacts on screen.

Cheap ones can break easily too. :P

Given the OP hasn't even said which store this was in the deal likely doesn't exist anymore. 1 misprice in 1 unknown store isn't a deal.

Its not an "unknown store" - if you took the trouble to look at the receipt before commenting you'd have seen its clearly marked "Runcorn".
