Meh. Good in terms of price, rubbish in terms of films on offer. :)
#2
Do you mean rubbish quantity or quality? From the offer I can see...

Brokeback Mountain
Million Dollar Baby
The Departed
The Phantom Of The Opera
Gangs Of New York

Are all good movies, and "Lucky Number Slevin" and the Underworld movies aren't to shabby either. What sort of movies would you like!

I meant quality, but you're probably right in terms of quantity too! :-D

Ones that aren't years old and that I haven't seen already. :p

Not a bad deal, with some good films, but only 12 film to choose from.
Not exactly spoilt for choice.

Ah, I see, so you expect new-release titles on Blu-Ray for £10 each? That wouldn't even cover Sony's royalty cheque! :p

Some good Titles there, but I have the Underworld discs... I can only sum up in 5 little words regarding older movies being transferred over onto bluray....

why are they so expensive?

just because its full respulation doen't mean it has to cost any more than a DVD.

This is like back in the day when DVDs use to cost around £20 when the same on VHS would cost a fiver! But then again I did buy DVDs back then for 20 squid!

There are three reasons for the added cost.

1) It is a new technology so production costs are higher, just like DVD they will come down over time.
2) The DVD market is significantly larger than the HD market, setup and production costs are therefore spread over a smaller number of units increasing the cost-per-unit. This will reduce as consumer take up increases.
3) Blu-Ray requires royalty cheques to be paid to Sony making Blu-Ray even more expensive. This will reduce when hell freezes over. ;-)

Sorry this made me laugh and look like a fool at work - what the hell is full RESPULATION??? Did you mean resolution??

you sir, are an idiot.

Films made 15-20 years ago were filmed at a resolution higher than 1080p, so they will still look amazing on blu-ray - check out blade runner for a prime example. Before buying, just check reviews to make sure the transfer is good - although most of the listed should be fine.

classic statement.

Sony do not own any of the licensing etc.

They are a member of the Bluray Disk Association though, so get some licensing back through them (as any company who want to produce disks or players has to be a member) although I wouldnt imagine they get much if anything off a single disk!

Blu-ray discs are still very expensive for the blanks.

You can get a DVD-R for under 10p these days.

Are these guys reputable? Never heard of them.

It amazes me that people think older films will look rubbish on HD formats on their 40" TVs, what do they think it looked like at the cinema when it came out on a 50' screen?

Yes, if it had a resolution of less than 1080 each pixel would have effectively been 1cm wide on a normal cinema screen.

While I may have been a little specific in blaming the royalty payments entirely on Sony who in fact only own about 30% of the IP the fact remains that the royalty payments for players was around $4 for a DVD drive, $12 for HD-DVD and about $30 for Blu-Ray.

I can't find recent numbers for Blu-Ray discs but DVD discs are arround $0.04 per disc and if we use a similar ratio to guess at the figure (and it is a wild guess) that make Blu-Ray disc royalties about $0.30 per disc. Not a great deal on a per-unit basis I grant you but it still makes royalties a billion dollar industry!

Have been using the company for about a year now and are very good.
Delivery times are quick, most times next day, but as you ca imagine when there is a promo they my be a little slower but so much quicker than the likes of HMV, Play etc.
Only had a problem twice and it was sorted out that day and a full refund given with no problems.
Highly recommend giving them a try

Well, that explains 13p of the price difference. Only £14.87 to go! :whistling:

As someone pointed out already, no-one is chucking out New Release Blu-Rays @ 3 for £30 & Uwish can hardly be blamed for making a promo out of what has been transferred to the High Def format by distributers who are just churning out any old biggish budget tat for a quick profit, not even adding new extras in most cases.....

(I've no intention of buying ANY Hi Def products until the price starts coming down considerably (& hopefully start getting packaged with some decents extras?!?) as I, along with a large percentage of the movie-watching public fail to see the improved pic quality is worth the expense of buying older titles like this or replacing over a thousand standard DVD's).

The truth is that I don't think a new release STANDARD DVD @ around a tenner is a bargain but others here post when something's just come out & Tesco's/Asda/Play?HMV are doing some promo for £9.99...if that's what people are happy to pay then it's a bargain to them & it looks like between the temp & some of the feedback, others here feel this is a good deal.
It's personal choice....you're entitled to yours....I'm entitled to my spiteful little comments..I mean MY opinion & the voting public are entitled to theirs.......

If that's the case, then I'm a bit confused. The Spiderman trilogy on Blu Ray that quite a few bought, well, I got mine from Amazon and watched the 3rd one, which I thought was superb quality, but when I put the first one on it was really grainy and you wouldn't have thought you were watching a blu-ray on a 40 inch Bravia. My friend who thinks he knows it all (but knows not a lot really) said it's because it's an older film, but you've just said this shouldn't be the case, so was just wondering what Amazon have supplied me with, and whether anyone else that bought the trilogy has noticed the difference in quality? :?

Two of my all-time favourites on that list so it's worth if for me.
Heat added.

Just done a price comparison of the promo titles to see just how bad this deal is remembering the Uwish price is £12.96 each or 3 for £30.....

Lucky number Slevin, Hostage, Next, U-571, Underworld & Underworld Evolution - Sendit are the next best @ £14.89 each.

Gangs of New York - next best £15.89 @ Sendit

The Phantom Of The Opera next best price is £15.99 each @ 101CD & Blah

The Departed - next best £16.89 @ Sendit

Million Dollar Baby & Brokeback Mountain's next best price is £16.99 each @ 101CD & Blah

So apart from not finding a comparison price for The Crow, these are ALL around 2 quid or more cheaper than the next best price for anyone that does want them singly & roughly a third off the average market price for any purchased as part of the promo....if you're a Blu-Ray owner & after any of these titles, THAT sounds like a hot deal to me.....
#35
Why must you use bold?

Nice deal. Voted hot.

It reeks of self importance. If you don't put an end to it a moderator should have a word with you.

Over six thousands posts doesn't make you significant or wise above others. Just look at DanDoc as another example of someone who has delusions of grandeur.
