good price but i wish they would work on a linux operating system.

Would be really useful if i could get one to work on the dell mini 9 that my little lad has.

Hot all the same.

Linux has supported all the popular 3G dongles for some time now.

Usually a Wizard pops up the first time you insert the dongle, but you can start the network connection wizard manual if that doesn't happen. From memory you need to set the connection as:
Connection Type: 3G
APN/Network: 3internet
Phone Number: *99#
Everything else is left blank or automatic.

I'd say for for £4.99 worth a punt, you don't even need to buy credit to test it out because you always get access to www.three.co.uk even when the credit has run out.

My 3 dongle (ZTE MF627) worked fine under Linux (Linpus lite) on an acer aspire one :)

Even though I am not a big fan of sainsburys this deal isn't bad, yeah if your lucky you might get them free now and again (which I have managed to:)), but I haven't seen these cheaper elsewhere...

Also I find that 3/three usually has the best 3g coverage nationally (I know it varies if your indoors and other networks MAY have better 3g in your areas than three), but overall 3/three aren't too bad a network.

HOT

You could always unlock this and use it on another network aswell.

it is nationwide?

in which store did you found?

it looks like e156g, same box colour (zte has different)

This was in Chesterfield

sorry if im asking a really thick question but are these dongles pay as you go (use) or do you have to subscribe to a monthly contract?
#13
Voted hot - thanks OP!
I've got O2 and Vodafone but depends on where you are for coverage, so at this price I'll probably get this to supplement the other two.
#14
sounds good, might try and pick one up, always handy to have!!

I have the old 3 dongle from when they were giving them away for free - I unlocked it and got one of the O2 iphone payg sim cards for free (with £10 top up) which gives a year's free surfing. This worked well, and the sim went in my new laptop when I got one with WWAN (Wireless WAN). I went out (literally yesterday) to get another iphone sim and the O2 shops seem to have cottoned on to the trick - they refuse to sell them now without an iphone purchase :-(

Since I'm an orange customer, I went to an Orange shop and got the Orange dongle on a £5 per month 18 month contract. I ahve to say - it's fantastic. 500Meg a month (2p per meg thereafter) and it supports 3G+ so where covered will run at up to 7.2Mb/sec. Installed straight away under Windows 7 and works a dream.

If you're going for the 3 payg dongle, bear in mind the top ups expire after 30 days. The min top up is £10 per month which give you 1Gb, so as long as you don't use that much (no big DVD or music downloading) then the Orange deal is much better value (in my opinion)

Will check this out, ta,

Sounds good £10 month top up.

Anyone know what the speeds are like?

Oh and can I put my T-Mobile contract sim in this as I have unlimited Internet?

Huh?!?

But surely you'd have to top it up?

Can you give any more info???

Use this method myself and works fine, much better than £10 a month.

3, normally sell starter packs with modem and sim card complete with 3 months or 12 months internet included. So, people/dealers on eBay split the bundle and then keep or sell the modem and sim card with inclusive data separately.

Which is why you don't use a 3 mobile broadband sim in the dongle, instead you use a normal mobile phone payg 3 sim and buy £10 credit which you convert to 2 months of 'internet monthly' add-on for £5 a time (Fair use policy but roughly 1gb per month)

With a 3 phone sim the credit you put on never expires either :-D

Non in my sainsburys ... don't think this is Nationwide. The girl at the CS desk also checked on her computer and said she couldn't find the offer :-/

This is to get broadband internet on the go like mobile. They come with sim card that will have credit data allowance on it. When you stick the dongle in laptop or computer it will work as broadband modem to get the internet wirelessly

none in the middlesbrough area.

This is a mega deal..... i may concider buying them of any one who has bought / or has a number of these...
the modem is the Huawei E1550 (not as good as the e160)
it has a max of 3.6mbps download.... and is locked to 3
it wont work with any other sim cards from other networks.
i can unlock these modems and do some other stuff to them which makes them valuable to me so if you have
or know of any mobile broadband deals let me know......

i had experience with this modem, i agree with you about cooperation with other networks but in my case that was related with changing firmware to mobile connect or partner, and any computer (i've tried 3 or 4 ) did not recognised it . but price is hot
