If you do decide PC Pro IS for you then you can get it (with the DVD) for a year via the Tesco Clubcard magazine route for £16 of vouchers rather than c£40 payment ie not as good as some 4:1 deals but a 2.5:1 deal can still be good value.

see this page
http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/browse.aspx?N=4294966467+4294965953

I know from first hand experience that it IS the DVD edition the Tesco deal applies to (it was the issue I found very hard to get proper confirmation about, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating and I get my DVD with the issue each month)

Don't get this for the tool kit. It's terrible. But 3 issues for £1 is pretty good.
#3
Yep... 3 for £1 is pretty darn good. And you can give the tool kit to your aunty's new fella who nobody likes!
#4
Great deal, just ordered thanks :)
#5
good deal OP - repped and heated

and as far as the tool kit is concerned, well, I've had similar deals to this twice before and never saw a tool kit even though it was part of the deal -- but judging by the comments above it seems I didn't miss much ! :)

I got this deal a while back. The great thing about the kit they sent me is that all the screwdriver heads are magnetised, making picking up screws that you drop inside the case easy peasy.

This said, there isn't really much reason for these magazines to exist anymore. perhaps in 2002 when broadband penetration was below 10% and I was subscribed to PC Format and Computer Shopper for the free software on the DVD. But not anymore...

It's the same toolkit that comes with a similair deal Custom PC magazine were doing (3 for £1 incl. toolkit)

I have it, yes it is pretty bad quality. The case is a very cheap plastic. the actual tools aren't too bad, made of metal at least.

computer mags are so 90's

So is your comment, If like me your in the trade and you love your computers then they are a good read what gets me is if its so 90's why did you come on the thread and and take the time to make a useless comment, fair enough its not for you but comments like those are of no use to anyone they are pointless and very annoying, if somethings not for you don't say things about it just avoid the post. There's loads of stuff that i consider to be pants but by looking at the deals main page i see those items and don't bother reading further.

The toolkit is rubbish its pound shop fair so its not the bargin they make out they are the cheapest tools ever.

Oh I think there is. I just think that people should lobby together and tell them to drop the CD/DVD on the front page and sell it cheaper.

Look at magazines like GamesTM. No faffing around with cover DVDs which adds a fair cost to the magazine and shipping. Higher content value instead.

I've been trying to get PC Pro to give a non-CD/DVD version for years. They won't listen though. The magazine itself is good and whilst some of the news you can find on the various internet sites, its good to have a magazine that keeps you up to speed with what's out there and nice to be able to flick through without being at your computer and pro-actively searching for info.

Ordered.... If it's the same tool box as previous offers then it's not too bad ;-)

Is there any way of not getting the toolkit?

I keep signing up for these free periods and I have a stack of them........... They get used as door stops.

I went for this deal last year. The 26 piece tool kit that I received was very very low quality. It was perhaps the shoddiest tool kit I have seen so far. After 12 months I decided to cancel the contract as the magazine isnt that good. After about a month of my cancelling my contract with them I started getting calls from this call centre asking me to join back. When I refused the callers almost always became rude, patronizing and outright insulting. I am very very sick of these calls to be honest.

I thought I should warn others who might fall for this "offer"!

just block their number, simples. Or pick up and then leave your phone for a while, im sure they will get bored soon :)

A very nice idea only if the number was ever visible on the caller id :)

You can wrap them in a pair of socks so your friends will get two great presents; best to wash them first unless you're feeling very generous and buying them new ones. :w00t:
