I have searched around this week for a mobile broadband package to make sure I have access while moving house. 3 offer a far, far better deal here than the competition, and I signed up straight away once I'd read through the T&Cs.

£9.99 initial purchase for the dongle, then £15 a month thereafter on a one month rolling contract. This is somewhere between PAYG and contract mobile broadband. Details direct from 3 on the 'go to deal' link. Download speeds up to 3.6 Mbps, the dongle is also a microSD card reader (which I think is standard, but still cool).

Orange, for example, will charge you £30 up front for the dongle, then £14.98 a month (30 day contract) for a 3GB allowance.

Vodaphone charge you £40 for the dongle, then £15 per GB thereafter.
http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-broadband-devices/usb-modem-stick-topup-and-go?compatible=false

02 want £30 for the dongle, then £2 a day, £7 a week or £15 a month for 500mb/1GB and 3GB data allowance respectively.

T-mobile want £2/day (so long us you top up £10?!) or £10 month for 18 months, both with 3GB allowance. They will gove you the dongle for free though. (Thanks?)

The downside is that they need 30 days notice to cancel, meaning you need to serve 2 months minimum on this contract once you've signed up. The chap in the shop said they can sign me back up to it if I decide to cancel then sign up again. The offer is available online and in store.

I would love to hear if any of you can find a better deal for mobile broadband from any provider.

Download speeds up to 3.6 Mbps, added to the OP.

Cheapest solution I found was a standard voice 3 payg sim, (£10 for 30 days internet topup)

and I used my mobile as a tethered 3G modem, which worked fine and cost nothing.

This is probably against the T&Cs of your sim contract, I know I've seen it in the T&Cs of other providers because I considered doing the same with a free 3 dongle. The same is true of using an iPhone sim card in a dongle, but 02 have been cutting customers off as a result of doing this.

your heading is wrong, from 3 website:
15GB - £15/month for a 24-month contract
5GB - £15 for a 1-month contract

Maybe I am reading this wrong but from the link it looks like you get 5gb not 15gb for the 1 month deal - you get 15gb for a 24 month contract for £15:thinking:

Much better deals around, especially if you use Quidco.I got a o2 Dongle and 15Gb top-up all for nothing last month using Quidco.:whistling:

How - what was the deal can you provide a link please...

Pretty good deal, though slower than some other providers. Currently trying to decide between this and a Vodafone deal that i've been offered as an existing customer, both work out about the same price but the Three deal has a one month minimum term and the Voda deal is "unlimited" (i.e. there's no charges for going over 5GB, just a speed drop).

Well luckily 3 don't have this in their T&C's, I checked, I infact rang and asked.

If you want to check.

And the £10 topup is fair usage, no limit is specified.

Alas.. from the T&C's in your link:

Free Internet Use

Free internet allowance is applied immediately on Top-up and remains valid for 90 days. After 90 days any remaining internet allowance is lost. Subject to an allowance of 150Mb for 90 days. Internet use charged at 30p per Mb once inclusive allowance is used up.

:-(

Great Deal by the way! I'd get It if you didn't have to buy the dongle as I already have a 3 payg one. voted Hot!

i know this isn't really about this deal, but i have bought myself this broadband "usb stick" thing. i've read somewhere that i could unlock it. what i was wondering was, i have 500mb allowance with my orange contract, could i simply plug in my sim and use 500mb that way?

I purchased a broadband dongle from T mobile, the limit was for 3 gig over 3 months for £29.95 then top up as you use it. Within the first month the 3 gig had been used up, it initially ceased functioning until I put it in my unlocked phone where it reactivated. In total I used almost 26 gig, couldn't stream films but could still surf the Internet with the occasional interruption from T mobiles fair usage policy. Best buy most certainly, I currently have another broadband dongle from 3 and I have a 5 gig cap on that, no more online games :-( on that, still for an initial fee of nearly 30 quid 10 gig for say 10 quid who can complain!
