So I went into my new local BestBuy at Westfield Shopping Park, Merry Hill Centre. I spotted this marked at £24.99 there and have been wanting one for a while. Well cheap!

It wasn't even marked at half price, just marked as £24.99. I think I love BestBuy. I don't know if it is at all BestBuys, but the woman who served me said their prices are set by their head office.

Perfect for when I destroy my bank balance purchasing an iPad :).

These are awesome - I have one on contract with Three.

Just be sure to put the alternate firmware on it - this will give you features such as web management (no more stupid configuration app) and stuff like automatic reconnect/always on connection (if it disconnects under default firmware, you have to press the connect button to get it going again, which can be a PITA).

It is a mobile internet dongle that connects to the laptop or whatever you want to access the internet on, via standard wireless connection - you don't have to plug it into the thing you want to use the internet on.

Thanks for posting that. I'm definitely going to buy the new version- should be able to sell my old one on eBay for a fair price so it won't cost much for the upgrade. I love the usefulness of the MiFi but it can be annoying getting the thing connected at times- this new one looks to solve all the annoyances of the first. Plus it looks better too.

THis is an alternative too:
There's an application for for Symbian S60, Nokia N900 and Windows Mobile phones called Joikuspot, works very well. http://www.joikushop.com/

dunno why...i went to the southampton one and apart from the opening deals they were expensive....however, they had 2 good things....toilets and service was helpful rather than sales pushy

Just download MyWi my friend, it's a superb app for the iphones

can this work as a "normal" 3g dongle, in that you can plug it in via USB to a netbook and use it like that, or does it only work via wifi? i would have thought you'd get a better connection if you could plug it in for use on devices with usb. i understand the idea is for devices like iphone etc that only have wifi or to share the 3g connection with two devices, but would you need to carry both your normal dongle and this or does it do both functions?
#23
Does this produce a proper access point or just an ad-hoc ?

Joikuspot (symbian mobiles) and MyWi (iPhone) only produce ad-hoc but not all WiFi gadgets connect to ad-hoc (Android tablets)

It was probably opened before it's launch date to stop near rioting and crushing stampedes. A very good move on Best Buy's part.

When the Lakeside store opened it blocked up the retail park and the police had to be called in to help with crowd supervision and redirecting traffic.

Best Buy MH opened the weekend before last - despite what the website says, I suspect to coincide with a new PC World /Currys Mega store that also opened the same weekend. (Previously there were separate Currys and PC World units - now it's combined into one.)

I have been into Best Buy in the States, so was interested to see what it would be like here, very smart but also everything seemed RRP apart from the odd loss leader just like Currys/PC World. I didn't see any bargains, I might have bought a MiFi if I'd spotted it!

Unlocking these is a doddle.

http://www.zibri.org/2010/05/e5830-free-unlock-released.html

Putting custom firmware on them is also recommended. Can't find the links I used at the moment but will post back if I find them.

The custom/updated firmware turns it in to a one touch device too. Turn it on and it does a little 30 seconds light flashing dance and away you go :D

And the new one touch one looks wicked!! wonder what the batterlife compares like to this model?

And what makes this deal so hot is you get the whole "one-touch" (as opposed to three separate touches for power, wifi and wwan) by using a custom firmware :)

It works as a dongle as well.

that's great, thanks. so i presume i just take the sim out my 3 3g dongle and stick it in this and i can use that as a replacement dongle, and i can use it at other times with my 2g iphone via wifi. and i could stick another PAYG sim in the old dongle or something
#37
