3 months Xbox Live Gold @ £7.50

Saw this yesterday while on the xbox dashboard (on the Spotlight tab). There's an offer which says 50% off Xbox Live making it 7.50 for 3 months.

makes it about as cheap as buying 12 months at £30 from amazon.co.uk using the other deal ;)

Update: MAKE SURE you cancel after 3 months so that MS can't charge you the regular £15 afterwards :)

Ok just to clear things up, summary of most comments:
-you can't cancel online, you have to call and do it over the phone
-the deal is only for silver members, 9some gold members say it shows up on their dashboard so worth a try ;)
-stefone said he has quite a few posts on xbox live subscriptions so be sure to check them out for more info

I agree, I find it so much easier over PSN. I'll still be getting this though, only after a few months for Crackdown 2's release.

EH??? You have to PAY to go online with the Xbox???

Voted COLD for that alone!!!

Yes, you have to pay. It is a brilliant service though.

Lets not go into the whole debate because it's ridiculous obviously.

As for the deal, it's not a bad deal, but I won't vote either way just yet in case it is specific to Silver members. Is it just me or should it appear on your Dashboard of the date when your Xbox Live subscription will expire? Is there any way of checking?

i set this up last month. Its only for the first 3 months then £15 a quarter. And they make it impossible to cancel without phoning up. If anyone can send me a link to the page i can cancel then please do, i keep going round and round in circles.

Good Price, the only thing with this if you sign up off the dash board. They automatically renew after 3 months @ normal price as they have your bank details unless you top up with a code. So make sure you ring up and cancel.......
#17
Make sure you turn off Auto-Renewal.

I don't think you can cancel online. They make you call and cancel over the phone. :(

Xbox Live Silver (downloading content etc) is free.

Xbox Live Gold (multiplayer) is not.

It's been like this since 2003, do keep up dear :) *pats spenspuma on head*

it is good but they tend to have catches like,

"if you dont cancel before the three months, we'll renew your subscription"

so you have to watch out for the terms!

hot though
#22
MS do take debit card however this will auto renew at full price unless you call them to cancel it so tread with caution.

You usually get emails from microsoft a few weeks before it expires. And you can check online by logging in. ;)

It's our fault, it exists in the US and Canada because the consumers there kicked up a fuss.

Typical case of the British being too polite for their own good sometimes.

The way they catch you is through a direct debit scheme. They did this for the 'Pound a month' deal not so long ago

It's only for Silver members looking to upgrade, I used this around 2 months ago, and you don't see it if you're already on Gold - I'm not sure if you sign up, then cancel after 3 months, whether you'd see it again. Possibly, as a silver member, but possibly not, it might be a once-per-profile offer.
I got an email a couple of days back warning me that they'd renew at the end of the three months (at the usual full rate) so you get plenty of warning, and you can cancel online by going to

http://billing.microsoft.com

and logging in using your live details. You can see your subscription, and there's a cancel button - although this may just bounce you to the phone service?

One thing to be aware of, as far as I can tell from the T&C, you're not stopping a renewal, you're cancelling a service, so do it on the last day of your three months - once you cancel the gold membership is pulled from your account immediately, not at the end of the period you signed up for (ie you can't sign up for this, then immediately notify them you don't want to renew, sorry if that sounds obvious but I thought it worth a mention)

thanks for the info, put your comment up in the description ;)

haha, I think I spoke too soon - ther's a nice 'cancel here' button... which bounces you to a link describing the ways you can cancel - I can't get onto xbox.com at work, only the MS stuff, but other peoples comments on here makes me think that'll just tell you to ring 'em?
#35
Don't even bother. Cancellation is such a pain with these deals, and you might as well get a 12 month.
#36
If you really only want three months this is worth it to not deal with the hassle

Got caught by this deal myself - absolutely disgusted by the way I had to sit in a phone queue for 15 mins just to cancel the automatic debit option & told the helpful Indian phone operative as much - Microsoft are a bloody disgrace!

If it's done by direct debit, just log onto your online banking and delete it. They try and renew and get refused, job done.
