There are some good deals around for 3GB cards which may mean that you can get data for slightly less than £2.50 per GB but if you can't be bothered to keep swapping SIMs or you have a very peaky usage pattern, then this might be a good deal for you.

So for instance (going out on a limb here) if you used 1GB every 3 months for 9 months and then 9GB in the final 3 months then you would need 6 3GB cards for this, working out at £39 even if you could get the card for £6.50.

I have been looking at my existing contract deal and most of the time I use way below the 3GB allowance (more like 0.5GB to 1GB) but then occasionally I use more than the 3GB allowance and Three kindly charge me 10p per MB for the privilege (£100 per GB). I am going to cancel my contract and get one of these instead.

It would be nice if you could tell us where.

I couldn't find any as low as £6.00 (lowest at the moment on Amazon is £7.40 and can't find any cheaper Buy It Nows on eBay) and, as I stated in my post, even if the per GB cost is lower, it's not always a better deal depending on your usage pattern.

It all depends on the person I guess, its great for a low user wanting basic internet or a 3g pad user. Got a few 3g ones as back up, and the 3 data is decent

The prices for the 3GB one's are all over the place. They change every few minutes, yesterday I saw one for £6.79 but when I selected it the price had gone up. I think the sellers are doing a lot of dynamic pricing where the price varies automatically based on what the competition are selling them for,

Can I put this in my iPhone and tether from there?

"1GB every 3 months" - an evening on YouTube can use half a Gb.
The reality is these sims(£2.50 per GB) are poor value, I buy two a month at a cost of £15 giving me a 6Gb allowance, if I wanted to stream media or even listen to some music on Spotify I would probably use twice this amount.
Irksome as it may be but Three's 15Gb x £15.99 x 24 month is better value.
#13
Personally I disagree with Martysg...I use around 1gb a month on my Ipad (Use my wifi when at home etc) so this could be a good deal for me!

Horses for courses.

I have to admit this deal fills a bit of a niche. In absolute terms, for a consistently high or low user there are cheaper options. High users are generally better off with a well negotiated contract, for low users the 3GB SIMs are the best option (only just) and for very occasional usage the pay per day deals are pretty good.

good deal gonna get rid of my mobile broadband now 8pounds per 5gb allowance/month, now just having some surf in the work I don't think I will ever go over 1-2gb per month,

Does anyone know if I can use a 3 preloaded sim in an O2 dongle for the laptop? My contract runs out soon and as an occasional user I think this would be enough for me for a couple of months.

O2 dongle may have to be 'unlocked' first.

Got my 3Gb for £6.79 just a week ago, so just keep checking back from time to time

Decent enough deal, Three's own top up has for a long time been £5 per Gb.
Not voted either way because in respect to a home broadband solution these deals as Petetobin states, do not compare well with contract deals. Also the blurb is a bit misleading, 3Gb could last three months but probably won't.
#23
I used these dongles to download as the broadband at my home address is complete and utter crap! (Max download of about 30kb/s) At least with these I can get around 70-130kb/s, which makes a bloody big difference!

Sorry but how is this a good deal? You can get 4 x 3gb for just £24, isn't it usually supposed to be CHEAPER not more EXPENSIVE when you go for the package with more gb ? Just a terrible terrible deal.

Also using the fact 'they charge you when you go over' as a reason is redundant as with these disposable sims they CAN'T charge you for going over the sim will just stop working/ask for a topup and you just replace it with a new one.

I am pretty sure my old O2 dongle came unlocked but if it isn't they can be unlocked pretty easily using software such as DC Unlocker. I would suggest borrowing a sim and doing a test but remember to update the APN details in the dongle software first.

Read my post Reser and you can see that for a certain usage profile it can work out cheaper. Also I haven't seen one for 6 quid but I guess there is an argument that prices may come down so a 12 month commitment is a long time.

Bought one for £6 litrually 3 days ago.

And sorry but most people do not use these to suddenly download 9gb of data in a month like in your 'scenario' . You would be pretty stupid to use a 3G key as a way to download large files.
#28
Actually my scenario is based on 9GB over 3 months which isn't really that stupid. It can't be as I have done it and I use the word scenario without putting it in quotes and I can also spell "literally".

Reser can you share with the group where to pick the 3GB sims up for £6? eBay?
#30
I think I would prefer pay 1-2 pounds more and have a piece of mind for a year, I always loose small items so I would propably loose spare sim.
Time now to say goodbye for my 5gb contract for 7.5 per month, never use anymore since moving to Virgin.
Great find thanks a lot!
#31
My apologies to Reser, I thought the misspelling of literally was a mistake I now realise from a simple google search that it is your verbal avatar which you have been using for several years. Sorry for being so out date and hope I didn't offend.

nice deal
#33
This will give you 3 months free access to The Times and Sunday Times, Offer ends 31st March 2011.
#34
Hot deal for those that don't use Iplayer or Youtube heavily.

I had a 12Gb 3 sim and I had trouble using up the allowance! - in the end I set the laptop to Iplayer for a day to burn up the last day's worth of data, just out of principle!

6 months after mine expired I got a free 3 month /500mb allowance from 3 to tempt me back!
#35
Price seems to have gone up £2. I have updated the price but I appreciate deals isn't now as good.
#36
Nice find - Have some more heat!

would this work in my orange dongle?
#39
Only if dongle was unlocked, do a test with a friends sim first. If not you need to unlock your dongle which can be free or might need DC unlocker which costs about a tenner.
#40
Is it possible to use this sim in an ipad (once trimmed to micro size)?
