Great price for this phone.

Normally Argos don't make you buy the "required" £10 topup when you buy a phone.

this phone is great! My partner and I got this one and the INQ 1 (that Argos are selling for £80) when they were giving them out with the 6 month contracts and this one is far superior, especially if the camera is an issue. The delay and quality on this one is actually way better than the more expensive model!
#3
Good phone at this price but 3 is a lousy company to deal with for customer service.
#4
good reliable back up handset.

Though I have looked I admit I can't find out how much it costs to make calls to and from Skypephones. Does anyone else know? I always associate Skype with making freebie calls to and from my PC but I am guessing that, if you have to buy airtime, this is not the case with Skypephones, yes?
#6
You can't use SkypeIn with 3 so don't buy it if that's what you're looking for, but normal Skype to Skype calls are perfect (and free). All you do is log into your PC/Laptop Skype account on the phone, and then leave the application open to make and receive calls. I also have a normal phone too though not on 3 for my normal calls, and only use the Skypephone for Skype.

Great deal for £25, I paid £60 for one of these and still felt it was good value.

Might be best to change title to include the £10 airtime

Managed to lose the unlock on my iPhone a few weeks back, so this phone will do nicely until it can be unlocked again.

Hot deal.

hi.. can anyone suggest how to avoid the £10 topup and just get the phone for £24.99!
#11
Don't forget that as well as being able to surf the net on this phone it doubles up as a Dongle so that you can go online whilst on the move with your laptop.

I haven't managed to do it with mine as I have Linux on my Acer Aspire One and I was told by someone in the 3 shop that it wasn't compatible with Linux, not sure if that is true as they seemed a bit unsure.

However, I did take it to the mother in laws over Christmas as she doesn't have internet access so I just used the phone itself to view a few sites.

I did use it to go online with our main pc at home, I just plugged the usb cable that comes supplied, ok if you go to the in laws and they have a pc but no internet access.
#12
Does that mean that you can use t'internet for free? If not, what is the cost?
#13
10poud topup on three, You can get 150M free 3G internet usage, 200 to any text. 2000MIN free to other 3 number.(valid for 3 month.), plus , use skype on this phone on 3 is totally free, forever!!!
#14
this phone also has MSN, FACEBOOK , BEBO. Very good one!!
#15
Guys, what is the ongoing cost? Seems you have to buy a 3 £10 top up, but does that expire? Are you saying Skype is free forever?

I tried a while ago, they said £10 top-up is mandatory

Any voucher code or cashback deal to make this deal a bit cheaper. £10 Topup put me off a little bit. Otherwise, there is no second thought.
#19
There seems to be a lot of misinformation going on with skype on 3. To clarify. You get skype to skype calls free forever whether or not you have any mobile credit and you can set up your phone with its own skype account. I know I have one.
#20
Disable the screensaver to fix the problems with this phone.

Switches itself off and won't let you update Skype when it's enabled.

Why not set up your own skype account for the phone? I did. It is then independent of your home PC.

A £10 top up will get you 150Mb data allowance, 300 Texts, 5000 3 to 3 Minutes (They say unlimited but its 5000) These all expire after 3 months. You don't need credit to use the 3 skype to another 3 mobile running skype.

If you top up £10 online using a debit card you get 600 texts instead of 300.

Your cash top up does not have an expiry date by the way. It's only the freebies you get and any 'add-ons' you purchase with your cash credit that has an expiry limit.

I normally purchase £10 of credit, get the txts/calls as a freebie, make the 150mb last a month, then purchase the 'month internet' for £5 add-on for the following 2 months :)

I picked one of these phones up from my three store for my other half and its a very good phone for the money :D

Has anyone tried to download anything from here to their Skypephone S2?

http://www.umnet.com/phone/1989-Three_Skypephone_S2

I have Google Maps on mine but I downloaded that for free via the phone itself.
#24
I think my wifes came with it pre-installed?
#25
does it let you make video calls?
#26
This is a Wireless Skype phone that lets you call other Skype users for no cost.
The regular 3 mobile phone is just a bonus (if you think that a 3 mobile is a bonus, of course).

No SkypeIn or SkypeOut, just Skype calls to other people with Skype accounts (including other people with Skype on a 3 mobile; free mobile to mobile calls...)
According to information handed out, only people within the UK (computer based or phone user) can call you for free on Skype, in practice this may not be a limitation but don't rely on it as a necessity when thinking of purchasing this phone.

If you can get a signal, this is the ideal phone to give to a dependant that needs to remain in contact. Buy a pair and they're basically very long range walkie-talkies (with the signal pre-requisite).

Done

Most PAYG you have to buy some kind of topup, have managed to get one from Argos before without but usually they force you. Not really an issue as the Mrs is on 3 PAYG so the topup will get used

My first post here so please be gentle with me.

Can someone confirm a couple of things for me please?

1: I have Skype on my PC and pay £6.27 a quarter for unlimited landline calls. Can I use my existing account on this phone and still get the free landline minutes or are the minutes somehow tied to my PC?

2: Can I use this phone to call PC's or just Skype enabled phones?

3: If I can call PC's, can another PC user contact me on this phone if I'm away from the PC etc?

Sorry if I'm being a pain but I keep on reading up on these and it's as clear as mud to me with contradictory statements all over the net. Any and all info/advice appreciated :)

Hi,

Can you unlock this phone?
or is it already unlocked?

Thanks

So are the skype > skype calls only free when made within the UK?

My wife is always phoning Argentina and this would have been a far cheaper option than using 18866 if we could buy one ourselves and send her family one of these phones(the pc method isn't practical enough for us). From a few of the comments it sounds as though this wouldn't be possible though, anyone confirm?
#34
Cheers mumbojumbo(rep added), hey is that AVF mumbojumbo?

Just been looking on the skype website while waiting for a reply, seems one of these for the missus and an £8.00 pm inclusive monthly contract to call worldwide landlines is the way to go for us, way better than the around £30 pm we've been paying through 18866.

Heat added and thanks to the OP, cracking little deal:)
#35
I have T Mobile broadband and no landline phone.

I don't think T Mobile and some other mobile broadband operators allow you to use VOIP for calls.

So I'm wondering if this would be a good buy as with this I can use Skype.

I'd like to be able to call UK landlines for a fixed fee per month so can I do that with this phone using Skype ?

I seldom call anyone overseas.
#36
Just an update, my wife has informed me that as of Friday the facebook app refuses to connect - gets errors communicating. Its not the phone as other apps work and connect ok.

Facebook faffing with their site doesn't seem to help.
#37
why do we have to get top ups when we usually buy pay as you go phones.
they advertise the phones one price then tell us you have to buy a top up also.....i am sure they are not really allowed to do this are they?

The Skypephones that [three] sell are different. They do not use wi-fi but use the [three] network to connect to the Skype service. so in order to use this 3 Skypephone S2 from Argos, you'll need to be in a [three] service area with good signal.
#39
I don't use Wi-Fi either I have a mobile broadband connection with T Mobile broadband who I believe don't allow VOIP.

Yes I realize that you need to be in a good 3 signal area.

Thing is from what I've read 3 don't have very good feedback on the internet and mobile phone forums.
I've read lots of very bad things about them regarding customer service and quality of service.

Of course if it's just a PAYG that's better than having signed a two year contract and then find the service in your area is very poor.
