Are these sorts of deals always available around this time of year, or are prices due (in part) to uncertainty regarding the volcanic ash cloud? There's been several holidays posted lately which seem "too good to be true"
#2
Yes May always bargain time :) plus the ash

The deals for Greece look tempting however the country is in utter turmoil and if you want a holiday with a degree of chance of coming home it may not be for you

I'm off to Greece on thursday from another olympic holidays deal posted on here. This is actually a good deal and wish i waited now
#5
Just got back yesterday from another deal posted on here and have to say it was good. Olympic where a good company, rep was great, location was good and the accomodation although basic was good too. Certainly worth the money for a trip. Its just starting upo the season so is a bit quieter but most things are now open.

What on earth is this supposed to mean?

They have had demonstrations in Athens, this only affects people visiting a very small area of Athens, even then you would be very unlucky to find a demo going on when you visit!

My son is there at the moment, has been there for the last 2 weeks and seen no trouble anywhere!

My cousin works at air traffic control in Athens airport, no problems whatsoever.

If you are referring to the economic crises.....oh, well done you! This affects the Greek people badly enough already, really isn't going to affect visitors.

Sorry, so angry at this stupid post, nearly forgot. Good deal :) Very tempted

What a daft response and untrue. The Greeks at at the holiday
resorts will be as laid back as always. Athens might
as well be on the moon for the likelihood of any
trouble.

I just got back from Greece last week was great, highly recommended but my wife was killed by protesters which was quite annoying.

dont forget quidco too !

Im a former olympic rep myself and many properties in teh 2 + 3* maybe basic by uk standards but are the norm for greece but they are all more than adequate as a base
" weeks is a great price esp considering the cost of flights that shoot up over bank holiday period

I fly out to corfu on monday for a bargain break myself ;)

thats where i went. for the money it was very good. if you can get a room overlooking the pool or front road its better, we were slightly at the back but the resort is quiet but ok. jolly roger bar next door is good for cocktails 5 euro for a pint of black russian as an example, say hello to carlos for me . Restaurants in tsilvi were all good. highly recommend an all day cruise around the island (9hrs for 26 euro) booked from the local trip shop.(just take own food as its a bit pricey . Hope you have a good stay

I stayed at Alamis for a week. It was a good stay. Went with Olympic. Transfers sorted out by rep and was painless. The rep can also sort out excursions - eg. diving for 60 euros. Do go for the long 8 hr around the island trip and visit the shipwreck - bring along your own food and drinks (very expensive onboard). Its around 22-26 euro and can be sorted out with your rep or a trip to one of the many mini travel agents along the streets. Be aware, there may a long wait once you get onboard. But it well worth it. Brings suncream and just be relaxed. Coaches will take you directly there and back close to the hotel.

Avoid the turtle trip unless they can guarantee you will get your money back if you don't see any turtles (scarce until June/July). Boat can be rocky.

With both boat rides, take something warm, because it can be quite windy or wet - so beach towels a must.

I'd say it's basic but fine for one week this month. Zante is very beautiful. Bus service atm may be picking up, but a 10-15min taxi ride to Zante Town is more reliable. Prices are around 10 euro for taxi ride, 2 euro for bus into Zante Town, but very inconsistent. As I said things are picking up a bit.

Tsivili has an ok beach. Slightly narrow, but within 5 mins from Alamis. The bar staff are very friendly and speak English, and please say hello to everybody you meet - esp the cleaner ;). Sheets and covers were changed roughly 3 times while I was there. Bins are emptied everyday.

A meal can come down to around 10 euro per head, exc drinks. They all serve roughly the same type of foods. Do try the Oblisk (5-10min walk on the main street from Alamis) - they may offer you free cocktail as they did with us in the evenings. You can get a very good map of the area with all the food places from the travel agents.

There is a nice small 'supermarket' next to the hotel. Prices are aroudn the same all over the area. Do check out the larger supermarkets (two) - some things do work out slightly cheaper.

The area of Tsivili is for older and family minded people. Langana (20 euro ride) is for younger people. You will pass Lagana on your turtle trip if you do decide to take this up.

I spent most of the time in Zante, but made my own way to Athens. There should be some 100 euro trips coming up now with the travel agents.

Everything was pretty much painless. There was an hour delay coming upto Patra (because of a demostration), but Athens was easy going.

There are places to hire cars/mopeds the lot. Olympic do however, advise against hiring quad bikes and mopeds as they say some of the rentals are not automatically insured. They advise u car hire through their rep. The roads are also something to look out for. Not for the timid. Though quite a few people were riding and parking these all over the place - albeit sticking to the main roads.

You may have difficulty reaching the shipwreck via land. I didn't see any way down from the cliffs. Although I was not looking carefully.

I did not check the prices. But it's something like 100 euro for 7 days and 60 for 3days I think. There are a few gas stations around.

To end the question, it would depend very much on how much you wish to explore the island. The place can seem like a maze sometimes. I did not explore the island fully myself - as I was pretty much new to the place and wanted to explore beyond Zante. While I was there I just stayed around the East/South costal regions. Therefore, did not see any benefit renting.

Wish i could go, bloody kids and their exams!!!

The shipwreck a must visit..stunning :)
Zante town is full of stray wafer thin dogs/puppies :(((

the places i considered, a quadbike rollcage thing was around 35euros
moped obviously cheaper
and a quadbike cheaper.

A car was 45euros.

these prices are per the day...

I paid 50 euro for 2 days car hire (total not per day ). You can see the shipwreck from above looking down from a mini platform sticking out from the top of the cliff.....not for the faint hearted but really great. You cant get down to the beach from this way, you have to arrive by boat to stand on the beach. Hire a car and do the island boat trip as you see the best that they both have to offer and 2 days is ample to tour the island by car.

yep the people who like to get a good deal for their money . When i was there there were many older couples in the bar having a nice time, as well as a few younger ones.

It was by no means a full of lager louts or teenager type place..........
