I was in Asda tonight at Gateshead's Metrocentre and picked sum of these up, reduced from £15 down to £7. I already own a 3 set of Tesco branded remote control plugs that I bought from Tesco Direct when they had them reduced down to £12 about 6 months ago. Not sure if you can get these Status ones online at Asda at this price, as I have'nt checked that out so may be worth a look. They had plenty of them out on the shelves when I bought mine tonight.

I know that these have been previously posted on here, when they were reduced down to £5 in some Asda stores just before the Christmas. But I have'nt seen them reduced instore since that price reduction expired over 3 months ago

I find that these come in really useful, especially where access to some of my wall sockets is a bit restricted where they can be a bit awkward to get to. For example I find that trying to get to my wall sockets behind the set-up on my tv stand virtually impossible without having to move my speakers and stands and then having to pull my tv stand out allowing me to squeeze behind it to get to my wall sockets. These have been a great buy for me and save me a lot of hassle.

I find that they can also help you save on energy costs, making it easier for me to switch some off my electrical items off as they cut the power to them, especially some of the electrical items that I would normally just have in permanent stand-by mode like my tv and cable box.

I have the 3 Tesco remote plugs that I already own plugged into all my hard to get to wall sockets, I have 1 of the remote sockets plugged into a floor standing lamp where the socket is behind 1 of the settees and awkward to get to, and I have the other 2 plugged into the wall sockets behind my tv stand where I have 2 Belkin 8 socket multi-adaptor surge protectors plugged into each one and they work flawlessly.

When I got home this evening I set-up and tested these Asda Status branded remote control sockets, and I have found them to work just as good as the Tesco ones I have. There extremely easy to set up, and if you wanted to you could buy more than one set of these, even multiple sets, as they allow you to set-up multiple sockets in 1 of 4 zones where there is a on/off button for each of the 1 to 4 zones on the remote control.
There is also a socket "all off" button which would switch all of the remote sockets off, no matter which of the 1 to 4 zones that you may have assigned any particular socket to. Using multiple remote sockets ( for e.g if you had 12 of them) can also be easily set-up to work from just one remote control.

I have been all around the house testing how good the remote control is for these as the remote for the Tesco ones I own works wherever I am in the house, whether I am upstairs or downstairs and the signal from the remote to the plugs works fine even when it might have to go through several walls in the house to reach any of the remote plugs. I found that the remote that comes with these Status Branded Asda plugs also works very good from any point in my house, sending a strong signal to each of the sockets and also going several through walls etc.

I hope this info and deal helps some people.

Great little product, great price.

I managed to get three packs when they were a fiver, and now my disabled mate can turn lights and other stuff on or off at the touch of a button. Great range too. Only minor niggle, and it is minor, is that if there is a power cut, they need to be reset, but that takes seconds. Also my mum can now turn the victorian lampost (bought after seeing deal on here), at the bottom of the garden, or the shed lights, on or off without leaving the house.

Still a great price, and voted hot. Thanks op, might get myself some :)

Missed out the last time at a fiver (no price reduction locally :x)
Good price, handy item and thankyou for the extensive 'review'. Hopefully this time the price drop will also apply to those us 'offshore'.

Remote control sockets CAN be really useful.
When the sockets are in the wrong place, you want a switch somewhere else, or where users have restricted physical abilities.

The pack is marketing the things as an energy saving measure.
BUT -- how much energy would they save?

The remote socket itself is on permanent 'standby' ... does it always use less than the device it is 'helping' ???

A simple 'off' switch uses zero standby energy. That's greener than these things.

And if you are adding a remote to something that previously had a plain switch, then you are actually adding to your house's standby energy consumption.

Its an average cheap price though. About what Lidl and Aldi sell such things for (when they come around).

Worth getting now as the time shops run out is Xmas!

Why?

Because they are VERY useful for turning Xmas tree lights off at night, rather than squeezing round the back of the tree and knocking everything flying.

Fantastic price! I bought mine from Lidl about 2 years ago and paid at least £15 for them. Even at £15 it's a great deal as these are invaluable. I would not be without mine.

These are great. I got them for £5 from Asda a while ago and use them everyday. One used for the tv, one for the laptop adaptor and one for a lamp in an awkward position.

I use mine to be incredibly lazy and switch my lamps off from my bed.

Heat :-)

I picked up 3 or 4 sets for my elderly relatives who find it difficult to bend down to switch things off. They were marked as £5 on the shelf, and scanned the same way.

I have to say i just noticed these on reduction again earlier this morning. Not sure what they scanned at as i didnt get any more, however they were marked as £7 on the shelf.

This was all at Smallheath Asda, Birmingham

Handy for home theater setups; put an uplighter on a remote dimmer and put the active sub on a switch so you can instantly cut the bass late at night.

Brilliant product - recommended for hard to reach areas

bought the LAST one in Long Eaton Asda (Nottingham) .. using it now.. incredibly useful!

doesn't really need to point remote straight at the switch..

Thanks, I've been waiting for this to come back again.

A few still left in Wycombe, marks at £15 scans at £7.
I'd recommend buying an extra set or 2, since once you have some, you will come up with more ideas on how to use them.
A couple of things to note.

1) Sockets will forget the pairing if power is removed. Re-pairing is quick, but you need to do each socket one at a time, which is a pain if 3 are plugged into the one extension.
2) Sockets can only be paired to one remote at a time.

Marked as £15 scanned as £7 today, still a good price. Asda very slow at displaying correct price on their shelves (as I noticed with the creme eggs for 20p.)

One of the downsides of this design, is that all the electronic gubins sit on the top end of the socket, which means that you can't use them on the side of normal 13A adapters.
However if you don't mind dismatling such things, the plug/socket parts are modular, for EU/US variants I suppose. Anyway the plug/socket can be rotated 180 degrees. If the wires are too tight, then you may need to unsolder the white wire and feed it through the middle of the socket.
Good luck

Can confirm that in my local this am these are marked up at £5 reduced from £7, bargain!!!

Just called in Huyton Asda and picked a couple up. They had another two packs left if anyone is looking for them.

By the way, yes they are very good - excellent range and are rated at just under 3kw max power handling!
