upgraded ?? in what way, i keep thinking about getting one of these
whats the advantage of the upgrade? i've got s 3 PAYG mobile broadband sim so dont need it unlocked

You can upgrade the firmware yourself then... the upgrade makes it so when you turn it on it connects to 3G and WIFI automatically (out of the box you have to press 3 buttons to do this) and it also does not time out if you do not use it (again standard firmware does this after 10 mins or something)

Any other questions let me know.

Which firmware are you using?

Thanks

how do you go about toping up if you purchase the none contract version?
is it simply a case of buying topup credit - and does it run in a month or just until you've used all data?
#14
I've got an unlocked one of these and I agree with Gary that these are great especially with the new firmware. They allow you to use all your wifi devices over 3G using any sim you want and I intend to buy one of these just for my new iPad.

The 3G reception on my iPhone is so crap I sometimes take the sim out of the phone and stick it in the mifi and then call people over skype on my iPhone!

I have one, works really well with iPad :)

I don't want to be pedantic but I guess the correct answer is "I don't know how to".

30 seconds of searching in Google for "mifi unlock" found this....

www.zibri.org/2010/05/e5830-free-unlock-released.html

I had to view the cache version as page wasn't served up correctly.

Personally though I would pay the £6 and get the new firmware as well.

You can unlock it using dc-unlocker. I know, I have. It costs about £13 and you need an XP machine though.

Also it's worth updating the firmware.
