Hi,

You can buy a three pay as you go Mobile broadband dongle for £19.99 (Usually £29.99) using the discount voucher DONGLEDEAL.

You will also receive £11 if you go through quidco :)

This means that the dongle works out at just £8.99 delivered.

Hope this helps.

anyone use these? do they work out cheap for basic web browsing?
#2
We are moving house so this is ideal for us to have. Our broadband provider takes at least 5 days to move our broadband and due to me working from home I need the internet. For me it is a convenience to have one of these especially for only £8.99 as we are moving twice in 3 months. Also the coverage is mean't to be very good. As for the price I believe you can get a better deal by getting a contract with the dongle. But I think it is £10 for 1gb (Approx 10 hours of browsing), £15 for 3gb (Approx 30 hours of browsing).

Also great for holidays etc

Ooops, does that mean I should delete one of the threads?

Thanks.

Do you definitely still get Quidco when using this voucher code ?

Thanks
#5
Yes, mine has tracked already. You just have to have your 8 digit order number noted down to give to 3 if there is a problem.
#6
Hi, can you use these dongles abroad? Does it cost more to use abroad like mobile phones do? If you can, what is the coverage like?
#7
Note its only on the MF627.

Is it possible to unlock these modems?

Yes but cost like £15. So you may as well just buy one on the network you want.
#14
I checked with c/s about the order and they confirmed that it has gone through at £19.99 rather than £29.99 as it shows on my order acknowlegment. I also took a screen shot of my order page showing it should be £19.99. These can be used abroad yes :)

Im an existing 3 customer, they just offered me a 1gb monthly stick for £5 a month, with 3 months free on a 18month contract.

The stick itself is free - got 14days to decide if its useful.. do ppl have experience of this?
#17
The Voda deal is good as you have no time limit to use the 1Gb for £15 so if just checking emails the allowance could easily last you many months.

However 3 is good if you want to use it in certain countries as the Data can be used in locations such as Hong Kong and Australia just as it would have been used at home with no surcharge. As long as you roam on to that countries equivalent 3 network.

I wonder if anyone knows, if you also have the X-series internet package on a normal THREE sim card, if it possible to use your normal sim card with this USB stick to get internet access on your laptop??

To clarify the overseas question: -

If I purchase one of the these Pay As You Go dongles and pay £10 for the 1gB download can I use that 1gb abroad (Menorca).

I checked the 3 website (http://www.three.co.uk/Help_Support/International/Going_abroad_Pay_As_You_Go/Destination_Details?content_aid=1214306364702)
but am still unclear :?

It shows a list of charges: -
Internet & Data £3 / MB £3 / MB - I don't fancy paying that!
But it says this applies to Non 3 Network.

Then there is a list of three roaming partners that provide the data service....so in short Im confused. Will I be able to use the 1gb allowance (that costs £10) in Menorca and not pay anything else?

TIA

These are spot on both me and the wife have one on contract with 3 for £7.50 each a month for 3gb which is half price as we are existing customers. When we go to a friends house its actually hell of a lot quicker than their sky internet. I use mine all over the country as I am a driver and excellent for going on holiday to watch bbciplayer etc when we've missed soaps also excellent for the kids when we are travelling and never loose connection unless we go into busy town etc..............:-D

I have got this deal and it is very useful, consider carefully whether 1GB would cover your needs for the next 18 months though, the offer is half price on normal plans so well worth going for the 15GB for £7.50 if they will let you and you think you might need extra usage in future.
If they tell you that you can upgrade later and still get half the normal price on a new tarrif DONT believe them they conned me with that promise.

You can only use the 1gb allowance abroad on a 3 network, e.g. 3 Italy, or 3 Ireland. If you use this one on a roaming network, you'll pay the prevailing overseas data rate (£3 per MB for this). Depending on how much data you want to use, you might be better going with T-mobile which is £1.50 per MB. Or using a PAYG sim from the country.

But depending on when you're going, the EU will bring into effect the wholesale 1 Euro per MB data roaming rates by July.

Ive had my 3' 5gb per month contract for a good 6 months now. For normal browsing n email, 1gb will last way more than 10hrs! I probably use like 30hrs per month and my itemised usuage approx 100mb. so i'd say around 300hr per 1gb.

Thanks for this :) I am hoping it is going to last longer. The amount of hours I put in my post was taken from the '3' site.

Got mine in the post today... not bothered to top it up because it's letting me online anyway, even with a £0.00 balance :D

You get £2 over run credit. But when you top up £10 you will obviously only have £8 left.
#33
Amazing how quick they go down in price... just a year ago they were £80, and 2 years ago (when the tech was just entering the mainstream) they had to be bought with an 18 month contract.
#34
I remember buying a T-Mobile one for £49.99 on an 18-month £20 a month contract :(

With this (or any of the other) PAYG dongles, can you see how much of your 1gb (or whatever allowance) you've used so far in real time (i.e. not just at the end of the month), so you can have a rough idea how long it'll last, and how much you've used?

As it may be something i'd only use on odd occasions (with already having broadband at home), is there a stand out PAYG dongle?

Currently we're with Virgin for broadband, and o2 for mobile phone...

£19.99 seems pretty decent, these were so much dearer last year!

If you hardly ever use it go with vodafone as it has no expiry date on topups. It's £39 minus 10 quidco and you get 1gb (about 40 hours netting).

I have the Vodafone, for £15 you get 1GB with no expiry date, so I can use as much or as little as possible, might be an option for you.

You mention Virgin, I am sure if you contact them you may get offered a deal on a contract that may work in your favour and Virgin I am lead to believe use the T-Mobile network infrastructure which is supposedly one of the better mobile broadband networks.

Don't forget quidco for both the 3 or Voda dongles

Is Vodafone's coverage good? xxx

Not to threadnap, but is there a website where all of these companies data options for dongles and sims is listed. Maybe something like moneysupermarket.

If you are a Virgin Media customer, and on a bundled tarrif of Cable Broadband and Phone, you can get their 1GB service for £5 a month.

The USB Modem is free, you have to pay £4.88 deliver, which is next Day via UPS.

Normally it's an 18 month contract, however, they will offer it for 12 months.

The service is with T-Mobile, I am sure the costs abroad are very expensive. Last time I checked a Vodafone contract it was something llike £5 per MB.

The signal strength can be patchy, at home I get a 3G signal and around 300k down and Up.

At work, right by the M3, I do not get a 3G signal and the speed is slower than dialup.

The 3 Network may have similar areas where it will be slow or not work.
