3 year guarantee on all laptops over £599.00 @ John Lewis

johnfashjohnfash

Usually offer a 2 year warrenty, the first being with the manufacturer then they take over the second. Very handy for anyone who is interested in buying a Macbook or an ultrabook as sometimes there is problems with the SSD when you start knocking on the 2 and a half year mark!

Hope this helps someones decision when pondering where to buy their next laptop.

Any ideas what this covers? I.e. With Applecare, if something goes wrong, you take it into Apple and they then keep it for a few days and get it fixed. It'd be interesting to see what JL do.

If you only got it last week try giving them a call, they're usually pretty decent about stuff like that.

    For those interested: http://www.johnlewis.com/Help/Help.aspx?HelpId=9#guarantees

It'd still be interesting to know how long it takes them to do a repair, as ultimately they would have to send it off somewhere.

I suppose how desperate you need your equipment.

I believe what they do if you have a problem with your Mac is to send it to Apple to get it fixed. This may take a bit longer so in the meantime if they have some available they would provide you with a loan laptop to tide you over.

The deal is that a 3 year standard warranty on a laptop, any laptop, is very good, as you well know.

thought it was always 3-5 years on electricals

The 3 year warranty doesn't cover the battery.

that's not 100% correct. You get a 3 years warranty within UK only. If you want a 3 years global warranty, you still need to upgrade it (which is cheaper than normal price)

It should if there's a manufacturer fault, i.e. the battery fails or melts etc. It won't for regular wear on the capacity.

Also the free cover apple gives to students doesn't include Apple Care phone support

This is a good deal, but dont be syrprised if they put up the prices of their laptops to cover the increased warranty.

Thanks for the heads up I phoned them and they said they would sort me out with an extra year and whilst talking they wanted the item number of my Laptop and informed me that they have since dropped the price by £125.00 and because I'm within the 28 days they are happy to give me the difference if I come into store so thank you for the heads up OriginalSHare 8)

JL are a lot more hard edged and competitive these days than they used to be hence the massive change in policy when the price match promise was altered to be more restrictive and less generous. In most cases you cam find the same computer cheaper elsewhere, but without the extended warranty. they still used to match that but these days they do not. I was talking aboyt pricing generally over time.

Same here, I though most electricals (TV/computers) from John Lewis has a 5yr guarantee.

I've bought 3 (one laptop, 2 TV's) in the past couple of years, all with 5 yr guarantees???

Oh great! This'll make up for the over-priced laptop they sold me in the first place :)

You can return your MBP within 14 days or purchase and then buy a new one with 3 yrs warranty.
