For those who dont know

This should get some heat!! H&R
#3
Great price, heat +1. Some may disagree to paying for some of the facilities this software gives though.
#4
An excellent price, costs about double this for the family pack, bought two, that will do me for the next couple of years. All the advantages of exchange server/blackberry without any hassle at all.
#5
Worth it just for find my phone. If you have a mac and an iphone get it!

I got one of these family packs in december for £50 from CEX with no problems. Just ordered ready for when my license expires... sweet. heat added
#6
great deal. got £120 of trade in voucher too :D

You can actually get it for free if you do a couple of Apple online training (open to thousands of IT reseller in UK and worldwide).

I got mine last week for completing Apple Products Professional module.

Amazing product, I thought it was just online data cloud. I now realised it is more than that.

For those don't know, with Mobile Me, you can
- pin lock down your iphone remotely if it gets lost or stolen.
- find the location of your iphone
- display message remotely to user
- wipe everything on your iphone remotely
- setup your own mobile me email account which always push message to your iPhone
- use iDisk to share data
- use Online Pic Gallery
- sync Calender on iPhone or Mac
- setup your website using iWeb
and much more......

For £30 is not bad considering all the benefits you get.

Have fun waiting for it to turn up though.
I placed an order for some desktop memory 9 days ago. I have since seen the stock level go from 13 to 0, and now back up to 10, but it's been stuck at 'stock picking complete' the whole time. They also won't let you cancel an order until it has turned up either. From what I can tell the orders are sent to the stores which have them in stock, who then package it up and despatch it to you - it's just pot luck on if they are willing to send it I guess. Bad bad service...

never had problems with them and i've ordered about 100 cd's already from CEX - and only 4-5 was cancelled

Considering the price of an iphone, I would be shocked if apple didn't do all the things you mention for FREE if your phone was stolen. They certainly ought to..........

PS The PC World "mobile me" post seemed to imply this was an annual charge??
#10
Mobile me is a subscription service. It's yearly.

I bought it a while back from ebay and I've been very happy with it. A great addition to my system.

Yes, there is a yearly charge for the service.

I don't really think you have thought that through. :w00t:

The mobile me family pack is now out of stock.

I ordered an extra years apple care for my iPhone for £25, they charge £60 on the Apple website so not bad for an extra years warranty.

Does anyone know if this software is new, I suppose it must be.

TERRIBLE SERVICE FROM CEX - THEY SENT LOADS OF PEOPLE EMPTY BOXES AND THEY CANCELLED MY ORDER.
#19
Remember if you are new to this you can get a 60day trial from apple first, then renew using the pack you buy from CEX, so an extra 2 months free
#20
What happens if like me my mobile me automatically renews for £60 odd. Can I stop the renewal and use a cheap pack instead?
#21
Is there anything mobileme can do that you can't already do for free with web applications?

I use my gmail (Imap account) on my macbook pro and at work and on my phone. All syncs fine
Google calender everything is sync whenever I'm online or at home
I use flickr for photos
I can use box.net for online storage.

Is this just a user friendly way of having everything in one place? Not a criticism of the deal which I am voting hot, but I'm genuinely interested as to what advantages mobileme has, I was working with a designer the otyher week who used the gallery to upload video for me and it was a really nice and easy way to work. But the big selling point seems to be that everything is in sync and using the google applications it already is.

You can add a voucher before the date and then when it comes to renewal it will do that.

I did it with a copy I bought of ebay after my 60 day trial

Not really, there are a couple of extra features like the findmyphone and the gallery system is slightly nicer to use than flickr I find.

This is what i don't understand with people liking apple and this kind of product.

You're paying a premium to use services that are freely available from other platforms but instead of complaining you are praising apple for doing this?? What's happening that I don't see??

Same with the Iphone and its yearly OS updates that add features that again should be (and could be!) there from the beginning. A perfect example is the new OS4 for iphone which has multitasking features that won't be available for the older 3G handsets! Apple state that this is becsause of hardware limitations but that is not true! Still no-one really gets against apple because of this and they still get praised by the masses!

Apple are a realy well marketed, well run business who's business plans are never designed for the customers to get a fair deal as far as i can see!!

mobile me offers an exchange server facility with no overhead costs, or administration. Running my own exchange server used more electricity a year then paying Apple for this.
I dont think you appreciate the simplicity of the apple products. Phones have had email and internet browsers for years, but its only with the iphone that data usage has exploded in the mobile market.

I am not a fanboy, i will move to whatever product is best for me, at the time. At the moment I need a mobile device that can *reliably* sync my contacts, appointments and emails over the air, with an easily searchable diary of past appointments.

The only other phone that i have used that did all of this with grace and reliability was the nokia e61. Compared to the iphone though, it is chalk and cheese.

Google make a good stab, android is very good, exchange server support is pretty simple to set up, but you get the feeling of 'me too'. It doesnt have the feel that the iphone has, but if i was going to drop iphone, android is the only possible alternative.

The issue with multitasking, the original and 3g iphone just couldnt cope, they already have difficulty coping with the 3.0 software. I have used Windows mobile operating systems, if that's multi taslking, then you can keep it, along with the stylus.

Whats with the apple bashing  Of course alot of these features are freely available elsewhere. Its like saying why would you pay for OSX or Windows 7 when you can get a perfectly good operating system (Linux) for free? Whats the point of moaning about the iPhones limitations, anyone who bought it knew what it could and couldn't do when they bought it.

MobileMe is a decent (not perfect) service especially if you have a mac & iPhone together and use the built in features alot. I don't see the point of getting it if you have an iPhone alone (mac maybe yes), because you'll always have an information backup on your computer. Its primarily for syncing all your info across multiple devices or having a mac email address plus a bit of storage. One thing I will say is that is very easy to use and all in one place (compared with using say different free services). I don't really believe find my iphone could be that useful if your phone went missing, as anyone with half a brain would wipe it after they nicked it. Better spending £30 insuring it on your house insurance IMO.

so could i do this then

buy two copies for the price of apples £60 and then use one for a year with my iphone and then use the second one before the first year is due for renewal or does will it not work like that
#28
Why would you need to run your own exchange server?

Google offer's a free exchange service just like this:

* free push email
* free calendar sync
* free contact sync

Google sync, I replaced mobile me with this because imo mobile me is not worth the money when there are better FREE services around.

Just my two penneth
