Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite against their Persian enemy, drawing a line in the sand for democracy. The film brings Miller's (Sin City) acclaimed graphic novel to life by combining live action with virtual backgrounds that capture his distinct vision of this ancient historic tale.

Bought it at this price a YEAR ago
Worst film ? Er....it's got far too much competition for that for starters.
Fast and loose with the story, but most facts were accurate. 300 Spartans a few thousand other Greeks picked up on the way, against between 350,000 and a MILLION Persians and assorted allies (including Pro-Persian Greeks) it was called for being targeted at the homosexual community, and thats what put ME off for a long while, but being obsessed by ancient history, had to see it. I found it far better than I'd thought.
Leonidas was in his early 60's not the age shown here. And he DID do the "THIS...IS...SPARTA !!!" thing to the Persian envoys !
All in all, a decent movie glitzed up, of course Hollywood style, but unlike what they normally do, the Spartans weren't made into Americans from New York, Chicago etc fighting against the Persians to defend Europe (as they normally do with rewriting history !)

I'm not so sure on those figures, PhilK. While they were still sorely outnumbered, from what I've read from numerous sources, the numbers were nearer 6,000-8,000 vs. 100,000-300,000 (usually the low end). Of course, their were more persians in Greece, but in THIS battle, those numbers seem pretty constant.

I saw this just the other, the fight scenes and tactics the Spartans use are brilliant to watch.
They really were the greatest warriors that have ever lived.

Visually it looks really impressive. The story itself isn't much though.
