Apparently the very hot spring means that we will have a great (early) strawberry crop this year... Bring it on! hot

The £1 one's are Spanish, the strawberries priced at £1.50 are British.

Not true, checked this in Walsall yesterday, both are Spanish! They are "promoting" the £1.50 pack as a special offer as well!

This is true.
But you can also blame the strawberrys for the shortage of other vegetables... there a shortage of trucks in Spain because they're all being used to bring the strawberrys over before they go bad

I got some at the weekend - loads of them had mould on. When I got home and opened the ones I thought were ok when I checked them in the shop - half of them were all soft and squidgy already!

British strawberries not being on offer sums up Britain? Interesting.

Snap here wideawakejake
We took ours back cause they were mouldy underneath and swapped them for some others but had to go through about a dozen packs to find some that weren't. Got some from my local Market today, 500g £1 whoop!!

It might come about because they cost more to grow, and are still in short supply too as it is still very early for British grown crops!
As has already been mentioned there is a glut of Spanish ones, which will have driven their price down, and they need to be moved before they are a rotten pile.

Regardless of where they come from, they are all crap - crap varieties grown for maximum yield and maximum storage potential not flavour :-(

No, thankfully some things are spot on and good value too, otherwise I wouldn't spend so long on this site.
Sadly it's not modern varieties of commercial strawberries :-(

The only good things to come out of spain are Nadal, paella and the Benidorm TV series.

Spend the extra 50p and get some British stawberries, which keep longer and taste like a stawberry should.
#22
British strawberries are so much nicer though, almost like a different fruit altogether. Got some locally grown ones at weekend, £1 for very small punnett (needed 2 to feed 3 people) but absolutely delicious! Cheaper foreign ones great for smoothies & cakes though x

I hate Morrisons, I applied for a job there, went for the interview and when everything was looking good I got the dreaded letter.
