This is quite a good deal considering it has an eSata2 controller thrown in. For those who dont know, eSata is around 6 times faster than USB2. Its also quite alot cheaper than ebuyer.

Undeniably a quality piece of kit, that has more extras than most external HDDs out there, but voted cold on account of price.

You can get a 320GB one here:

For £74.02 + free delivery - 1.5% quidco making it £72.91.

This, IMHO represents a better deal.

Thanks for the post anyway, as I'm sure this would make a very good high-end unit.
For an eSATA drive it is a good price, but won't appeal to the vast majority.

Please accept my apologies. The part where you get the pci esata card totally passed me by on the first read. This is a much better deal than I originally thought.

Apologies again
it ok thekanester, I never really expected people to know the difference between eSATA and USB2, so this deal will most likely fly over people's head.

However to those that do know, this is £38.40 cheaper than ebuyer! the esata2 card is worth around £30 by itself.
Indeed it might. I never knew that the PCI adapter was included. I discounted it on the fact that I don't have eSata.

Lesson learnt? Read ALL of the damn post before counter-posting!

is this really esata or is i just sata with an external connector?

esata has to be sata300 and has a slightly different cable and connector to sata150 and the internal cables, due to the need to shield more, they have slightly higher voltage so cable length can be doubled and they don't have that L-shaped locking mechanism.

if something claims to be esata but just comes with a pci blanking plate that goes from your internal sata connectors then it's not esata. an esata card would need controller logic etc and would not plug into sata kit.
Some more specs

State of the art SATA technology brings breakthrough 3Gb/s performance to digital video workstations, entry-level servers and desktop systems in a sleek, durable and stackable external hard drive. This is a complete external SATA (eSATA) solution that includes an eSATA hard drive and eSATA PCI host adapter card.

Increased speed of SATA 3Gb/s reduces backup time when compared to Hi-Speed USB or FireWire 1394
Provides optimum performance and capacity for massive data transfers and real-time video editing
Exclusive Native Command Queuing (NCQ) technology maximizes drive performance
The included PCI-to-SATA host adaptor card provides ports to connect up to two high-performance external SATA drives (installation requires accessing your internal computer components — see manual for detailed instructions) The eSATA drive will not work with your USB or FireWire ports If you do not have an eSATA port on your computer, the provided eSATA PCI host adaptor card must be installed to use the drive.

Excellent deal inc the PCI card! Well done OP!
why doubt it is ESata ? Looks like it is to me :) - my P5-B Deluxe has an E-SATA connector on the rear.

ok right, it is actually an esata controller card (albeit promise junk) i.e. will work even if your motherboard doesn't have regular sata.
Had promise on my Asus mobo, never had any problems with it, certainly wouldnt call it junk. Do u have any links to back up why you think its so bad?

they've always been known as junk fakeraid kit.

no linux drivers either - well they did do some binaries for 2.4 kernels, but none of the recent cards work with 2.6, even with the gpl'd stuff.
