Thought i would post these as i bought one last week at the old price then noticed they were bringing out some new one's. So had a look at the refurbs and the had gone down in price so i phoned them this morning and got the difference refunded.
#2
Weird why the generation one 32GB is more than the generation two 32GB one!
#3
weird these were posted yesterday
#4
sorry never saw the post last night for the 8gb one's

You only save £50 for a 32gb 2nd gen REFURB over a NEW 3rd gen
#6
3rd gen is much faster as well... same CPU as 3G s - if you get one, might as well get one thats more fun to use, in the long run.

And if Quidco tracks @ 4% thats about £10, making the 3rd gen 32gb £220

However, if the infor on apples site is correct - the new touch has 6 hours less playback for music (from 36 to 30) and would the software update not help bring the 2nd gen up to speed?
#9
Do you really intend to listen 30 hours music straight? :)

Hardware wise the new 32 and 64 GB are dar superior; even with the 3.1 firmware update, 2nd gen just simply cannot compete against it.
#10
Travelling though Southeast Asia, im not sure how long it will be between charges

Thanks for the help thou, makes the decision all the more difficult! In a penny pinching mood, although for the sake of £50...
#11
I have the same dilemma... £50.... hmmm....

Can the latest ones be jailbroken?

Not at the minute if they come with 3.1. Won't be long though.

The new OS 3.1 would bring all the new functionality to the 2nd Gen but would not improve the speed. I reckon it slows mine down if anything don't know if it is maybe because of spotlight.

Does anyone know if you have to upgrade the OS on a these 2 Gen ones? Only costs £2.99 but would be nice it came with the latest software

My current ipod is a 5 year old clickwheel verison 3 40gb one (battery life is getting quite short even after replacing it 2 years ago) and am thinking of buying one of the reconditioned 8gb touch ones just to carry a few albums round on.

Is it worth me buying one?
#16
you can jailbreak it with 3.0 firmware on
#17
hot thanks
#18
Thanks! Just bought a 16GB (2nd Gen) one.
Good Price!

Can someone summarize what the main differences are bw the generations? Just the CPU? Thx

It's on wikipedia, so it must be true :w00t:

The Touch 3G has a new chipset and is faster than the 2G (not the same chipset as the iPhone 3GS for the record) otherwise they are functionally identical as that's down to the firmware. I bought a 32GB 2G last week to replace a 8Gb 1G. Excellent price. Next year when they ship with a camera I'll buy the 4G.

Order an 8GB one which will be delivered on Monday.

Just ordered a silicon case, sport armband and two screen protectors from Deal Extreme for a total of £6.
#24
i bought mine for £280 when the 32gb/2nd gem first came out, not much worse then the 3rd gen and a very good price, heat added

Received my ipod touch this morning but am having trouble getting videos to play on it.

From the itunes store I downloaded the free FashForward trailer (just to try out the video part of the ipod), I have synced this onto my touch but when I click to play the trailer it says "This movie could not be played".

Can anyone help me with this?

It may not be the right format for iPod viewing? I get this with video podcasts sometimes one slips in that isn't formatted for the screen size etc.

Thanks, when I get home I'll try downloading some of the other free videos and see if they work.

I did a Google search and it came up with loads of forum posts about people having problems playing videos when running the 2.2.1 firmware.

TBH I've moved from a 1G 8Gb to a 2G 32Gb and I had no probs on the 1G with 2.2.1, but again most of the content I use is either specially converted by me for the Touch or its a podcast that is definitely optimised for the Touch. Both Touch's are upgraded to 3.1. now.

OK I downloaded a Fast and The Furious trailer video and that works fine.

I have upgraded to firmware 3.1.1 and now I can't get any apps I download to work. The apps that come as standard work but the downloaded one load up for a split second then go back to the home screen.

Again I've done a Google search and it seems this is a common problem, does anybody have any ideas on how to solve this?

Only had the Touch a day and so far I'm far from impressed with it!
#30
Had one for 18 months and have none of the problems you describe.

Which app? Try deleting and resyncing - the only one I have that won't work is Dictionary.com.
#31
Yesterday morning I downloaded Parking Mania and that worked fine, then last night I upgraded to the latest firmware and downloaded the Facebook and Sky Sports Football Scores apps (as these would not transfer using the old firmware). I synced my ipod and now none of them work.

I've tried rebooting my ipod, restoring my ipod, deleting the apps and reinstalling directly to the ipod over wifi but nothing works.
#32
Performed another restore and its now working! Finally!

Really its down to how much you want to carry with you. Although they are called refurb I suspect they are just existing stock being sold off. The firmware is the same between them so aside from speed, I don't think you'd notice.

Put another way I'm not regretting my 32Gb 2G refurb for a moment ;)
#35
ive went for the 16gb refurb. Ive placed the order and they said i should get an email shortly, but i haven't got one yet after like 6 hours.
#36
Don't worry about it the emails aren't usually fast and if you want progress etc log into your a/c at Apple.
