Thanks Brains. Added the voucher to voucher section.

Quad core 4GB ram blu ray + stylish keyboard and mouse + 1.2 TB Hard drive + Vista home premium + dedicated graphics card + £5 voucher code + Quidco seems bit better IMO.

seems like a good deal, haven't had many deals from dell lately

Nice deal and you can get XP Pro pre-installed for only £11.50 more. I’d stick that in the title as there are a lot of people that prefer XP.

Upgrades (Exc VAT)

Windows XP Pro - £10
500GB HDD - £10
Firewire PCI card - £10

Its £90 more, has no monitor and for most tasks the Intel dual-core at 2.8GHz is much faster than the Mark I Phenom at 2.2GHz.

Look here buddy for all Vostro 220s configurations It seems like without a Monitor it will cost you more.

This is a really good deal, but remember this is a slim line case and the PSU is rather weak. So although it's a quick PC, it's no good for upgrading to a high spec graphics card as the PSU can't handle it and also it won't fit.

If you phone them I'm sure they'll sell you just the cardbox box that they ship systems in for a good price. :)

Just read monitor comes with 3 year warranty. Sound correct?
#18
Thanks for the link Brains, not sure about the slim case though.

If my memory is correct, you only get the 3 year warranty on their monitors by purchasing the monitor seperately. If you purchase it as part of a system, the monitor gets the same warranty as the desktop (i.e. whatever you select - 1-5 years).
#20
dont forget 4% cash back with quidco :)

If it comes with Vista business, why pay £10 extra just to have XP on? Vista business gives you the right to install an XP OS (referred to as downgrade rights).

Funnily enough, the accepted way of doing this is to install XP, with any serial (that you may have lying around) and then when prompted to phone to register, tell the microsoft operator that you are a Vista business downgrade customer. (We have to do it at work all the time).

Sounds dodgy but it is the accepted MS way of doing it. I suppose you could pay the £10 just to save the hassle but at least the option's there.

Anybody know what this incorporates? Sounds like dual boot with Vista and XP + XP Media Edition?

For £392 delivered, you can have a vostro 220MT (better graphics card fitting).

Spec: Core 2 Duo E7400, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, 20" TFT, 256mb GFX Card, Vista Biz & XP Pro.

You could have any other £10 upgrade over XP of course.

There is another 10% vostro voucher floating around, for all systems that are a minium of £449 exc VAT & delivery. You also get a chance to win a vostro 1510 in the process. Link. I'd post the code I got, but I don't know if they are generic or not (they probably are).

I'm pretty sure it just means they give you the media (i.e. the DVD with vista on and the DVD with XP on).

Most people don’t have a Dell XP Pro CD to install from and even if they did I bet a large number of people would happily pay £10 to have it pre-installed.

If you do have a Dell XP Pro disc it usually installs without needing to be activated as it will check the BIOS to see if it’s a compatible Dell system in the licensing sense.

Because if god had meant us to use PC's for gaming he would not have invented the 360 or PS3, you can't do spreadsheets and word docs on a 360 so by the same logic you can't play good games on a PC, point proven, you can't argue with God

Why, are Dell PCs peculiar in that a normal XP pro disc won't work.....?

My dell seemed to work fine with a standard XP pro disc and the appropriate drivers.

I would pay £10 to install it myself. To save £10 for doing it is a bonus.

No you can use either type but most people won’t have easy access to either type of disc. A lot of people have access to XP Home CDs but not XP Pro I suggest. I suggested the Dell disc as if you’re going to get your hands on one it makes sense to get that as it doesn’t need to be activated in the normal way.

If you pay me £30 how about setting up a triple boot XP Pro/Vista x64 Ultimate/Windows 7 RC1 on my desktop; I‘ll provide the coffee. :w00t:

You have a point but part of the reason why you can now get such good CPU' and GPU's on desktop computers if purely because of games being played in home pc's not becuase of word processing.

You are right, games playing on the PC does exist, in a small sect of non worshippers who dare to go against the word of god, but they will be punished....... can I hear an "ooooooh yeah" brothers? :-D
