I only payed £40 more for my 37" samsung LCD delivered off play.com just before xmas ..... I know which brand i'd rather have!
#2
Is that true CONTRAST RATIO of 1:700? that is an incredibly low amount if that is real,I have a Toshiba and that is far,far better than the Tesco one.

the website is wrong, the true contrast ratio is 1500:1, and thats true contrast, none of the dynamic rubbish, Toshiba LCDs are not very highly rated at all...

The Technika's are made off the same line as Sharps.

thats funny cos my mate has a 37" Samsung(the white one) and he said the exact opposite although I couldnt really notice anything better or worse between the 2, Spiderman 3 full 1080p looks the buisness as does Virtua Tennis 3 and Virtua Fighter 5..

its all down to preference and research at the end of the day, all budget/supermarket brands come from some factory, its just finding which comes from where, I would most certainly choose it(and did) over Hitachi, Toshiba, Philips and the cheaper Sony U range, and Samsung are too fixated on dynamic contrast ratios though saying that Samsung was my 2nd choice.

Was that for the 1080p version? I've been looking at the 37" HD Ready version for ~£500, but I'd rather get a full HD one if I can.

just to put peeps that might be buying one minds at rest..

see how it doesnt say 'dynamic' aswell

1500:1 is not a bad contrast ratio at all, I wonder what the brightness is ?
#7
The brightness at 500 is the same as even expensive tvs, there are some reviews around but nobody seems to of tried the HDMI pictures , does anyone know how good the HDMI pictures are? as i feel very tempted to get one.

I have PS3 via HDMI and BTVision upscaling via HDMI and both are excellent, PS3 is absolutely beautiful, it really is.

no idea mate, may aswell be japanese to me! ..... it came highly recommended on play.com reviews (biased) and dvforums etc ... was and is good enough for me, plus none of the embarasment of having to hide a "technika" badge!
#10
oh and its not white either, I can imagine that would look crud!
#11
Personally, I'd go for a name brand 1080i or 720p set over a cheaper 1080p set like this. Aside from any arguements of seeing a difference in the resolution on a 37" set, the imaging software will also most likely be cheaper and not as efficient as an equivalent Sony, Tosh or Samsung etc.

Oh and to say that the panel must be good becuase its from the same line as the Sharps (which ARE excellent sets) is to ignore the fact that Sharp make LCD panels for loads of different companies including Boeing and Nintendo (for the DS). It doesn't follow, that the same production quality will go into this set as the big Sharp Aquos sets.

I see, thanks anyway! I'd imagine it will be HD Ready rather than Full HD, but even so you got an excellent price.

bit contradictory claiming all that matters is "its good enough for me" but insisting on (****) brand "name" had lots of samsung in past never lasted very long, trust me its ****

Another person who insists on a brand name yet probably voted cold without ever viewing the telly thru his own eyes

We select our short list based on spec but in the end its down to your own eyes and experience and for spec this beats most anywhere near the price range, just go see it (or any telly)in action before u buy

im intrigued maddogb if you've had such a poor run with samsung why persist with them? surely after a couple of duds you'd jump ship? I on the other hand havent ever had any problems with them and 4 of the tv's in my house are samsung .... supermarket own brand stuff is always made to sell cheap so its never going to be top quality.

I don't persist i gave up on them, but others do by bringing it to me for fixing and did u vote cold simply because i slagged off a brand u bought 4 of?
#16
I didnt vote atall, its not something I have experience with so I couldnt say if its good or not, my point was that you can buy a good brand for just a little more, and I cant help but feel you'd kick yourself for not doing so if you bought the own brand one! ..... this is the one I got btw dug out the details for JBarnett .... http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3342809/Samsung-37-LE37R87BDX-XEU-HD-Ready-Freeview-Widescreen-LCD-TV/Product.html aparently it is 1080p according to its feedback though I still dont really know what that is lol, i can confirm it is a great telly though, particularly for the wii HTH :)
#17
whos says its cheap, it was £799 when first released..

you probably wouldnt but an Aldi brand Tevion either would you Marc? yet those are LG screens and Toshiba electrics.. a badge is only a badge fella, but if you feel better have a mid range badge on yours then thats up to you, but you really shouldnt hang, draw and quater a TV you have no experience of..

we all like to convince others that we made the right choice which is why I was surprised when my mate said the Technika produced a better image than his Sammy, and he said the definition of Spiderman 3 Blu-Ray in 1080p @ 24 fps was "10 times better than on his".

thats not 1080p as it is 1366X768, most it will do is 1080i/720p, its exactly the same as my mates, 'cept his is white.
#19
I didnt hang anyone, as I say I didnt vote as have no experience with the model that this threads about, you are correct though I wouldnt buy a tevion, or shop in aldi :)

LG are im lead to believe a rebranded "goldstar" another company I would never have bought from but yes maybe I am a bit snobbish when it comes to brands on the more expensive end purchases, I do afterall drive a Subaru and live in a Barret home lol.

and :giggle: at the Barrat home, classy stuff...:whistling: shows you have a sense of humour I guess.

I used the 15% discount, think it was £579 when I bought it

My point was people are voting this cold without actually knowing what it is and its allreet i wouldnt shop in aldi either but i can taste the difference.
On a blind test most people wouldn't be able to spot the difference between this and any other 1080p tv on the market
Difference is, this is probable £200 quid cheaper than the others
#25
It's not £50 more if you get it from here. It's only £10 more if you use the discount code for £20 off.

It's true that it's only HD Ready. But Full HD is pretty much pointless on anything less than 40" (at the bare minimum), unless you intend to sit about 3' away from the set.

I know which I'd go for (the Samsung).

I have to agree - I have voted it cold for the reasons stated previously, but with one caveat. Obviously, I could go into my local Tescos to view the telly (assuming of course my local Tesco's was an 'Extra' store and had the tv on show, but even then I'm looking a tv in a brightly lit shop, possibly through a dodgy set of cables to a shared aerial with alot of background noise and probably from a distance of not more than a couple of meters. Not really ideal viewing conditions) and not buy it through the internet.

Failing that I would have to look for online reviews of the telly to tell me what the strenghts and weaknesses of the set are. Unfortunately, at this point we hit a stumbling block - there are precious few reviews of this set (at least I couldn't find any) so I would have to spend £500 blind. Looking overall, the main brands do produce better quality goods than the no name rebrands (try finding out who actually manufactures this set) and more importantly they generally get reviewed by lots of different people/sites and any shortcomings are apparent to all.

surely the ideal ultimate "test" if it looks good under those conditions its gonna look amazin in a darkened room
but i know a bloke who bought an lcd with a technika badge on (42" i think) and tbh i thought it was alrigh,t certainly as good as many big brand lcds i have seen but then again my eyes think lcd's look cartoony and kak, hence my eyes told me to buy a big plasma
Have never bought a tv from tesco , but surely they can unplug an ariel lead from the splitter and feed it to single set or put a dvd thru it for the sake of a £500 sale?

yes when we was demo'ing them the 40" which has exactly the same casing was nowhere near as good, but it wasnt 1080p and it only had one HDMI which says its an older model.

my local Tescos show Planet Earth fed through cable on all their TVs, not the ultimate test I know but better than most stores.

Hi all after posting this and it seeming to go no where i dismissed it thinking it would go cold (probably due to brand snobs). I havnt had chance to see the set for my self but have been told its rather nice and compares to any thing else u can get for this money, and with the added bonus of being full hd ready so perfect for consoles but not too useful for tv atm. Im going home next week and i live about 5 minutes away from a tesco's extra so ill pop in and check it out for my self and tell u how it is, not that theres much chance of bring this to life and making it hot but it may help some people if u are considering buying it
#30
I paid £310 for Technika plus delivery from Winnen on e-bay, quite a saving and superb quality picture with 1080p................ why pay more just to have a "name"
