Following on from the award-winning STRDH800, the Sony STRDH810 adds a new range of tempting features including the latest HDMI sockets for full 3D compatibility.

As before, the STRDH810 offers a comprehensive range of Dolby and DTS processors to cover all sources from analogue to HD. New to the STRDH810 is Dolby Pro-Logic IIz which makes the most of the Sony's 7.1 channels with a spacious, enveloping sound when watching sources such as TV. In addition to the Dolby and DTS processors, Sony has fitted the STR-DH810 with no fewer than 24 different sound fields. These let you tailor the sound to your exact requirements.

When it comes to power, the Sony puts in a strong showing. The 100 watt amplifier is also able to be used in bi-amp configuration for the choice of improved sound quality when listening in stereo or 5.1. For better sound with iPod and MP3 players, the Sony STRDH810 also features Portable Audio Enhancer.

When it comes to picture quality, the Sony STRDH810 benefits greatly from a video up-converter. This means that any input signal is up-converted to 1080p resolution and outputted via HDMI. Being fully compatible with x.v. Colour, Deep Colour and 24p True Cinema you can be assured that the STRDH810 gets the full potential from any HD source.

Perhaps the most exciting advance over the old 800 is the fitment of the latest spec HDMI sockets. These not only allow for 3D TV pass through but also Audio Return. Audio Return means that just a single HDMI socket from receiver to TV carries both the picture to the TV and the sound back from it - really useful in cutting down the cable clutter! A feature unique to Sony is their Digital Media Port. When used with a selection of optional components, this allows for the integration of a wide range of media products, including Apple's iPod.

Although technically advanced, setting up requires only a minimum of time. BRAVIA Sync links to other Sony BRAVIA products via the HDMI to give exceptional ease of use. Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (DCAC) optimises the settings to your room's requirements - at the touch of a button.

Designed to match the latest Sony Blu-ray players but equally at home with a wide range of other components the STRDH810 has the clear, functional design that you'd expect from Sony. When you take it all together it looks like Sony are on to another winner with the STRDH810.

The 607 is not HDMI 1.4. It's been superseded by the 608.

Nice amp - HDMI and 1080p upscaling. What more could you want. Not so sure that 3D will catch on in a big way, could be wrong, though.
#14
gotta love the 3d ready labels. like anything 1.3 wont support it and mos stuff isnt fulll 1.4 yet. 1.3 will apparently suppor full 1080p 3d if you care. I dont until someone adopts nintendos glasses free 3d ech for tv. suck it.

some of my keys are sticky lol

RS are also stocking the STRDN1000 for the same price... could someone enlighten me as to the differences? The STRDN has a better graphic interface and might match my PS3 better... but is that an absurd set of priorities?

The 607 is a better amp and a step up from the Sony. But most of them are gone...

cheapelectricals.co.uk might as well pay an extra £8 and have it delivered to your door for free.

A 3D TV is needed plus a 3D Blu-Ray player, or do what I am and wait for the PS3 to get the patch that is meant to come out in september and download that. You will not be disapointed with 3D, its amazing!

I personally got the STRDN1000 over the DG810 for the sole reason that it looks better.
The DG810 is more powerful (85Wx7 compared to 100Wx7) and a better amp according to the guys at Richer sounds. But I'm no audiophile and i don't play my stuff loud so i didn't think it would be too different for me.
STRDN1000 is also not 3D ready. Which really isn't a big deal as 3D will work with this amp, but the TV's don't automatically switch to 3D. or something along those lines. (can't remember exact details but i did some research). Point is 3D will still work.

but I'm happy with my purchase. looks far better than my old Onkyo. And its more compact too, and it doesn't heat up anywhere near as much.
