In a perfect world this would not happen but this is a greedy and uncaring world.
Halal - animal cruelty at its very worst, I should add non halal is bad enough!

If you want to eat halal food then thats up to you but what i think gets peoples back up is the fact that halal is being fed in our schools and hospitals and in most cases people are not offered a non halal meat.
J4GG4
Fahim
tek-monkey
Krinkle

So why do people have a problem with halal?
Because they see the label. Most happily eat non-labelled halal every day, and it doesn't affect them at all. When they see halal though they get offended because they think other people are offended by them not eating it. Or something like that, I dunno. Certainly a lot of outrage, but usually outrage at another outrage that there is no proof exists.
But its not because they don't like Muslims, thats for sure. Definitely not that.
It's quite cruel according to some reports...when done properly and authentically by a master halal butcher I expect the suffering would be minimal, but that just ain't going to happen on a large scale so the animals will be thrashing around in pain...that ain't right. Also, it should not be sold in supermarkets unless clearly labelled, and that ain't happening either...it's cheaper to just do everything 'halal' rather than set up 2 production lines. I'm not a Muslim, I don't live in a Muslim country so I shouldn't really have to eat bizarrely (...to me at least (_;) ) prepared meat...seems fair to me :)
There is very little difference in halal and non-halal slaughter in this country, bar the prayer. Animals still thrash around in pain, they still fail to get stunned and go through it all conscious, its all rather horrible TBH. The prayer is nonsense unless you believe, the rest is remarkably similar. The meat doesn't change in any way, the only real difference is the religious context.
dont forget also that once the animal is killed the halal method, blood is drained out as much as possible. we know toxins etc are contained in the blood. so if most of the blood is removed then the halal meat will contain less toxins and technically also make the meat 'SLIGHTLY healthier'. and one important fact about halal slaughter most people seem to ignore or forget is that you are not allowed to sharpen your knife in front of the animal and also not allowed to kill the animal in front of other animals that are due to be killed ie. they need to be killed in isolation. thus emotionally and mentally not causing further stress to the animals.
and to those who actually want to have a brief knowledge of what halal slaughter is about, check this video out where our known british reporter Dawn Porter investigates so much so as she ended up having a positive outlook to it describing it as 'more humane' after experiencing first hand what it really is:enjoy!
I don't buy this ''slightly healthier'' garble you're talking. Which study have you come up with to get to this conclusion?. That i know if, there is not a single independent study confirming what you're saying. Please show a link to confirm that its healthier so i can look into this?.
In my opinion a halal slaughtered animal will drain the same amount of blood as a pre stunned animal. When the animal is stunned, in 99.9% of cases its still alive and not dead. Which means its still pumping the same amount of blood out of the carcass as a non stunned halal slaughter would.
Also if its ''slightly healthier'' you'd agree then that Muslim countries should have a far greater life expectancy to non Muslim countries, right?. Lets compare:
Morocco 99.9% Muslims - 72 years (the highest life expectancy of a majority Muslim country i could find)
Iran 99.7% Muslims - 72 years (the highest life expectancy of a majority Muslim country i could find)
America 97% NON Muslim and Jews - 78 years (A randomly picked country without even checking who's top)
Denmark 95% NON Muslim and Jews - 80 years (A randomly picked country without even checking who's top)
Most people know that Americans have an awful diet. Their meat is even banned from the UK, oh and they eat pork.
There's absolutely nothing that i know of which backs up what you're saying........
So i still believe ritual slaughter whether that be Halal or Kosher or other stupid backwards people that slaughter meat like this to be barbaric and inhumane.

i just knew somebody was gonna single out that one part of me saying 'slightly healthier'. im not stating it is so much healthier. i even capitalised the word 'slightly' and even before that saying that 'technically' it would be based on the way the meat is slaughtered. i dont know why you're putting so much emphasis on this part. no, i cant find any scientific study about it. however, what i can tell are you are some facts. halal slaughter ensures maximum amount of drainage of blood. because the more blood there is in the meat, the less resistant it is to bacteria, along with less toxins etc being in that meat. whereas if you stunned the animal, straight away they will release lactic acid making it even less resistant to bacteria. so the halal way would make the meat stay fresh a bit longer. and so it is based on these facts i have made the logical conclusion that halal meat would be only slightly, not significantly healthier. whether you agree with this or not thats not a problem. but you giving me examples of Muslim countries life expectancy based on halal meat is actually quite laughable and has no basis whatsoever and also a bit ironic since this is not very scientific and you are the one expecting scientific backings from me. have you even taken into account their lifestyle itself? medicinal access? economical and geographical factors? you're seriously basing life expectancy on the way an animal is killed? wtf lol that is bloody jokes!

the fact that you already have the views of us being 'stupid backwards people', how can i even expect you to understand what it really is? your obvious hate is gonna block you from that. you just showed signs of it. have you even watched the video i posted? the non muslim british reporter herself saw the halal slaughter first hand having pre assumptions that it is not right only to in the end say this is the most humane way possible. but here you are, not having even witnessed halal slaughter yourself, already have hated views of us 'stupid backwards people', throwing around those popular words of 'barbaric' and 'inhumane' making it out as if you know it all lmao. you're quite a funny guy. get with the times bro.

To Airfix,
ok so let's say you live in a nowhere land and theirs no machinery for stunning etc etc. how would you cut up your animals??
would you strangle them to death?
talking about medieval etc , I'm sure the British wouldn't have asked them to fight ww1 and ww2 for them!!! the as a result they WERE ASKED TO COME HERE!
im not sure how your ancestors were treated when they arrived in Britain! what kind of wickedness they bought with them ;)
If I couldn't kill an animal humanely I'd live off vegetables and mushrooms etc.... and in my country expect the government to enforce the law and I hope we follow suit of Holland, Denmark Poland etc in banning halal.
Poland don't seem to have an issue in making money out of the halal industry - i.e carrying out the ritualistic slaughter & then exporting the meat for financial gain! Somewhat hypocritical don't you think? Or is it just capitalism at work in it's full glory?

WTF has Poland got to do with Britain? I don't think British people would like to legally enforce the humane killing of animals for consumption throughout the whole world (...well, it would be nice but...baby steps), but it would be nice if we could do it here in Britain instead of bending to appease the ludicrous rituals of peoples from the dark ages!

...in the true spirit of Brexit like (_;)

I know its difficult for you, but I'll do for you what you should've done for yourself....and I'll explain...

I replied to a poster called airfix who happened to mention Poland's stance on meat slaughter.

So let me clarify to you....I then replied to this poster (not you or anybody else) & discussed this Poland issue with him.

And then you came wading in, frothing at the mouth with incoherent ramblings.

So in future, before spunking your load prematurely, engage brain.....look at the context in which a post is made...and hey presto, you can take up 'Poland' with the original guy who mentions it.

Easy really!!

Does Halal mean you cut its throat and let it bleed to death so that makes it OK?

Most of the people who are against Halal, claim to be so on the grounds that it is cruel. Yet 99% of these people will still be happy to buy chickens and eggs from industrial farming methods, which means an utterly miserable life for millions of animals from the minute they are born until they die. If someone is against something because they think it cruel, that should be respected, but personally I feel most of the hatred towards Halal is more to do with intolerance.

Ignorant to what?
At least I would like to know how my food has been slaughtered and why should I as an Atheist want to consume any food that has been subject to a religious law or view. If some people can object to methods of slaughter that involves stunning then why when people object to halal are they branded ignorant.

as an atheist you dont believe so why would you care if its halal/kosher or anything else.

if its about animals being killed then go vegan. because all methods give animals distress, no method is significantly better than any other.

and if you object to religious slaughter of animals what are you doing here

I used to love this stuff....

THE MANUFACTURER of one of Britain's best-selling soft drinks, Sunny Delight, admitted yesterday that too much of it could send a child yellow.

Procter & Gamble was responding to reports from a paediatrician in Wales that a four-year-old he had seen, who had been drinking 1.5 litres of the drink a day, was a "yellowy colour". Dr Duncan Cameron, from Glan Clywd Hospital, near Rhyl, Clywd, had the child brought to him after her hands and face turned bright orange and yellow. Analysis revealed that her condition was caused by betacarotene, an additive that boosts the drink's orange colour and vitamin A content

rather odd since the consensus amongst professionals is that it in fact tastes better. but then what do 'experts' know eh.
Post facts or shut up with your rhetoric. Looking at the post rating it would seem people are sick of posts with religious overtones, my advice to people who don't eat Halal is GO TO YOUR LOCAL BUTCHER sorry for shouting : )

See I didn't write that I was well aware of that very fact that you mentioned. Nearly all meat you eat is certified as halal. And I do not agree with it, just because they find it easier to mass produce. It is as offensive to me to eat mass produced halal meat as it is for a Muslim to eat non halal meat. It's harder for me to avoid halal meat than it is for a Muslim to find some to buy.
The shoe fits both ways. Again your last comment sums it up, why does it matter that meat must be halal? It's about time religion was taken down from the golden pedestal it currently resides on.
Do you mind if I ask how halal offends you? I find it odd, as an agnostic halal is irrelevant because I don't believe in the prayers said; when it gets to me there is no difference between halal and non-halal meat (or kosher for that matter). I assume the prayers somehow go against your own beliefs? But then your last statement wouldn't make sense, unless your beliefs were non-religious but against religion? It can't be animal welfare, having been in a slaughterhouse I can tell you it's horrific whether the prayer is said or not!
Anyway, your issue is with meat suppliers. Its cheaper for them to make it all halal so thats what they do. Vote with your wallet, use your local butcher. They need more trade, yet with the amount of people scared of halal you'd think they'd be laughing.
Let me ask you a question, since you are attacking someone who is simply asking for non religious meat. Why is it religion is placed above absolutely everything else?
Why is it ok for muslims to demand halal meat, but not ok for a non Muslim to demand non halal meat?

First off I'm not attacking you, I'm generally confused as to why halal offends you. You aren't religious (or at least you've not mentioned here that you are), the chicken sure isn't religious, and it still dies no matter what. The prayer means nothing, it is completely irrelevant unless you choose to make it so.

Secondly, you are just as much in your right to demand non halal meat as they are to demand halal. Again, I can't fathom your reasons for not wanting halal as its the same chicken regardless of the prayer, but you simply have to use decent local suppliers rather than supermarkets and you'll rarely encounter halal meat. Its up to you, its an easy decision for you to make.

If you disagree with a companies practices you either stop using them or you suck it up and carry on, the choice is entirely yours. If you buy cheap though expect halal, as that is cheaper for them to make rather than two different production lines that then need to be labelled separately.
