halfords sells this for £150?
#2
I meant they have a similar model for this price
#4
what's the software like on this and can you update it....legally?
#5
Mine came with igo 8 uk maps were on there. Why would updating it be a problem?
#6
Better hope it doesn't develop a fault as you wont get a warranty with it.

Looks the same as the ebuyer F&H. Says US maps, which won't be any good in europe. iGO is a good system (better than TomTom, imo) and extra maps can be easily installed. You can buy european and eastern european maps. One big advantage of iGO over TomTom is that you can use Navteq maps (TomTom uses TeleAtlas). I tried TomTom and Garmin, both with the latest maps installed andI found that the Navteq UK and Ireland maps on the Garmin were most up-to-date.

4.8" - That's huge!

But resolution is the same as 4.3" (480 x 272). I think it's a misprint.

Different to the F&H 4.3" model at Ebuyer. My main concerns would be that you could get stung by customs (I know most are lucky but that would make it MUCH more if you got caught - 10% duty + 17.5% VAT as that is going up before it would arrive + handling fees to collect that charge from you - could push price to over £80) and also the already mentioned warranty - very short and you have to return to Hong Kong at your expense!!

How is it different? Same processor, same screen (assuming the stated size is incorrect), identical technical data. The software is different. You can use any software on both units, including TomTom because the unit runs Windows CE 5.0.

F&H comes with Navigo Turbodog (Europe maps)and the Extreme comes with iGO8 (but no European maps) iGo8 is the better software because you can use TeleAtlas and Navteq maps. With Turbodog or TomTom, you can only use TeleAtlas maps.

As a result of my testing in the UK and Ireland, the Navteq maps are more accurate (which makes the Garmin navigators more accurate than the TomTom). I am preparing a little blog on my test findings and will publish the link when ready, just keep an eye out.

A word of warning: When I last looked, TeleAtlas doesn't think the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man actually exist. Beware if you think you might like to take a holiday in either of those places.
