What's the deal?

Richer Sounds is selling a Mico STB235 Freeview box in-store (not online) for just £4.99. Although it's a refurb (meaning it may have slight cosmetic imperfections) it comes with 12 months warranty so will, at the very least, tide you over for a year.

You could opt to pay an extra tenner for its 'supercare' five year warranty but, as generous as that sounds, the prices of these boxes are dropping so rapidly in preparation of the digital switch-over (this refurb box has dropped £15 in price in the last 6 months), that it really isn't worth it.

Check you can receive digital TV first

The official way to check whether you can get the signal is on the official site: Freeview. Yet that test's not fool-proof, so ask nearby neighbours for their experiences or if possible borrow someone's Freeview box to try.

How to get one

It's only available at this price in-store (it has 45 branches nationwide), and stock is limited so it's worth calling your local branch in advance to avoid making a wasted trip.

Also read the Digital TV Cost Cutting article for extra tips on slashing the cost of TV packages.

thnx to mse natasha

the only shop I have ever known that refuses to sell items absolutely useless staff, every time I have tried to buy something like this they tell me not to bother

did it to me too.

Arrived at a store and luckily saw an item in window..

Inside they said 'Sorry none in stock'

Said I was happy to have window item which they then quoted as 'Sorry it is broken'

So they have a broken priced item in window which they use to entice people into the store!!!!!!!!!

Yes they have the Mica STB235 Freeview box but why stop there? They also have
All at £4.99. Note Last few to clear means
Stocks limited/not available in all stores. Some may be ex-display or ex-repair at this price (ex-display stock carries a 12 month warranty, ex-repair goods have a 3 month guarantee).
Don't rely on the availabilty shown on the websites, phone first, Limited availabilty may mean none at all.
Never managed to get through on the phone.
