Best to buy Mirrors Edge and Red Alert 3 from Direct2Drive whilst they are at $5 (use the US flag at the top to change price to dollars, rather than pay £5) - by doing this you will be able to re-download the game at any time in the future, whereas with EA store you won't (you will have to pay again to download a game you have previously bought)

Good prices though, so voted the whole deal hot :)

I added to game to basket but there is no american flag at top of page?

Before you add the game, and you are just browsing you will see a UK and American flag at the top right, click the American flag and teh pricing should change to dollars - add the game then :)

After I change to usa site, I search for red alert 3 and it comes up a $19.95? same with mirrors edge.

Ahh, they can't be in the $5 dollar sale then (sorry)

Still best to spend an extra penny and pay £5, so you can re-download any time :whistling:

Lovely deal. I can finish Dead Space again.

Are you sure that you cant re-download from the EA site?

"How do I re-download software that I have already purchased?
To re-download a game you have already purchased, simply Log In to EA Download Manager and select the game you would like to re-download. The EA Download Manager stores a copy of your downloaded products, so if you just want to reinstall your game, you will not need to re-download it. If you do wish to re-download the game, don't forget to first remove the game's temporary files by clicking the small (X) next to the game in the EA Download Manager window

For Mac

To download software you have already purchased, you will need to look up your order and click the Begin Download button.

This is a fantastic deal. I have just downloaded Mirror's Edge and Burnout Paradise for £6. Little more than the price of a magazine or a round of drinks. Thanks.

Shame I already have Mass Effect, Dead Space and Red Alert 3. Those games are also brilliant.
#10
Why worry about redownloads? You all back up/image your hard drives on a regular basis anyway don't you?
#11
Why isn't this deal getting more heat?
#12
so tempting but i just dont want the DRM thta ea plug onto these might have to just get mass effect anyway

Well, having the option to re-download is always better than having no option, right?
And no, I dont back up my entire hard drives, only the files that I'd be sad to lose.
#14
Agreed. Option to redownload better than none at all.

Treat yourself a cheap 1tb drive (£50-£60) and back the whole thing up. So no worries then.

if you have any coke points left you can get £5 off for 10 points or £10 for 20 points and get the games for free
and also quidco 50p for the £5 or £1 for the £10 spend cash back
if you dont have a coke zone acount just grab a 2liter for 3 points and when you sign up you will get 9 points = 12 points will get you a free game and 50p cash back

hope this is a help to some one

You can re-download the games you buy online ea, you just have to go through the trouble of downloading the game/s again. Iv still got Battlefield 2 and 2142 add-ons from before in my ea account.
#21
for anybody with a coke zone account get the £10 ea store discount for 20 points, and enter it you get them for nothing(well 10 points each)
i just got dead space and burnout paradise no problems

Ok, I think I've found the answer after much research on the web.

You can re-download the game for free within the first 1 or 2 (different site says different things) years of purchasing the game. And after that time period has expired, you must pay again. However, you can purchase this thing called the "Extended download period" which allows another 5 years. The EDP costs $6 us dollars (on the US site).

Another question, how do you backup entire games? Do you just go to C:/Program Files and copy the entire folder to an external HDD?
#23
DRM sucks, but that's a price I can't argue with. (Although I got Mirror's Edge boxed for under a tenner for 360.) Heat added.

After reading the above post it seems that the EA store has ditched it's download limitations.

The add-on packs that i have in my ea account have been there since 17/09/2007 i have just downloaded them. No error messages saying that i have to pay for them again  Unless its applicable for the full games.
#26
My order wont go through when using paypal :(
#27
Think I might have to get Red Alert 3 at this bargain price :)
Would like Dead Space too, but I fear it won't run particularly well.
#28
Ahhh!! I have SOOOOOO many £10 off codes from cokezone (since I'll never be getting the hero reward from there)
so many free games for me!!!

Well, this is what these sites say:

Do note that their is no longer any mention of the download limitations and the page with information on the download limitations no longer exists and redirects you to the store page.

Hm....... I might actually buy these games now.

by the way, if I buy them here in the UK and I travel to another country can I still go on the UK site and download the games and play there? (seeing how not all countries have the EA store service)
#34
Do you need specific backup software to back up your games or do you simply just copy and paste the drive to another?

Having bought it, it's a shame I haven't got space to actually download RA3.
I've bought a 320gb drive for my laptop but can't install it yet. Have to wait until Windows 7 arrives later this month.

The best way is to back up the installer that you download*, that way you'll have everything you need and any required bits will be installed rather than giving you mysterious error messages if they're not there on the computer you restore to.

For most recent games saves and settings aren't stored in the program files directory but are often in the documents folder or elsewhere in your user directory (you're probably backing the whole thing up already).

*Assuming it's the full game and at least several hundred megabytes in size, if there's some awful download manager for EA store then you'll have to hunt around for where it puts the installer.
