Not my idea of a holiday any more, way too old for that, but found this while looking for something else and it seemed alright for a well reviewed 4* hotel right near the strip. Adults only, has water slides and even its own outdoor stage although no idea if that will have entertainment in September. All inclusive so fill up for free before going out and get breakfast on your way home the next morning (if you make it home at all!). AI is only £40 more than room only so seems a no brainer, assuming you like that sort of thing.

Flights are from the midlands, similar from Birmingham/Manchester/East Midlands although some London ones look cheaper still.

Actually it's £269 from Stanstead, next cheapest 4* AI I can see is £437.

I'd rather go two weeks back-packing in Syria,

You can use the hotel as a base, hire a car and see the island, Mallorca has got a lot going for it - the only real worry would be drunken idiots being noisy in the middle of the night.

15 years ago I was one of those drunken idiots, but we were rarely back at the hotel before 6am!

Like I said, not something I'd do now, I rarely stay out past 10pm anymore. Thought it may be of use for people younger than me though, I paid this in 2002 for a complete hole with no facilities. Luckily I was drunk enough not to care too much!

Yeah its a big hit. Normally we can choose any time of the year but the other half is back at uni so we are restricted to august / first week of september.

Its just for the 2 of us but this is where we clash: She wants to sit down and do sweet FA and I want to explore. SO We have been looking at places like Marrakesh, Tenerife, Canary Island and similar places as I thought it might tick the box for what we are both looking at. First off most seem about £700 for the both of us for 7 days which isnt too bad but when we go through, add baggage and what not, it shoots up to nearly £900. Thats just madness.

Maybe Im looking at the wrong places Basically we want a pool and a place for her to relax but an option on a day or two to go explorer and look at some hisotry etc.

Is all inclusive a requirement? We went to Tossa De Mar last year and loved it, an old place to poke around if you wish but could also just sit by the pool/beach. Very few AI places there though.

We're in a similar dilema, the kids want beach/pool we want old towns and walks. We're stuck with October half term though, so only the canaries really hot enough.

No worries mate, hope it helps. I have a sanitised photo album (removed all of us!) if you fancy looking at a few places we visited:
