Wow, a voucher website holiday that includes both half term and Easter school holidays, it's a miracle!
Visited Venice last Easter, paid 3x more than this and would have loved to see Rome, but it's a long way to go there and back in the same day. It was wonderful though at that time of year, very warm but not too hot. The fact this includes travel between both cities and hotel accommodation in both cities makes it an even bigger bargain, heat added!
ETA - I stand corrected - you can't actually book for either the half term or Easter dates. Meh. Still, a good bargain for those who don't work school term-time.

Careful of thieves. Did this trip in November 2014 but with another provider and had arrived in Rome 10 minutes later my misses got scammed by the taxi driver (fast hands replaced 20 euro for 5 euro and claimed the wrong fair).

Arrived in Venice, sat in a outside area of a cafe and a couple next to me had their backup lifted from their table and the chap tried to run off with it (middle of the day made it look casual). They got the bag back fortunately but the chap ran off so got away.

If you are travelling around Rome figure out the tube before you arrive - 40 euro fair (turned into 55 after the scam) could of been avoided and would of cost 3 euro for the tube... lessons learnt for us. Bus tour is worth the 20 euros as its hop on hop off and takes you to all the sites (i think there was 12) including Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, Vatican and so on.

I have lost counts on posts here about deals to visit Venice..... I lived in that area for more than 10 years and I can tell you that if you want to visit Venice, you need to stay in Venice, not Mestre or near by towns like Treviso or Padova.... which (the last one, Padova) is a very nice town for all its historical places to visit but not a good point if you want to visit Venice day and night time..... Another question is, what kind of transportation do you have from Mestre to Rome? Train I suppose, so what kind of train ticket are they going to give you? for sure not the "freccia oro, argento" the fast trains that connect Venice to Rome in less than 5 hours.... expect to travel overnight in a bad train that will stop every major town if you are lucky.... And visit Rome in two days, impossible! Sorry this is not a good deal

I wish I could have Rome to myself, have been twice and was too busy when I went and not enjoyable because of this. Also Trevi Fountain covered in scaffolding on both occasions. Takes the magic away from it a bit.

The second time I went there was a woman stood next to one of the ticketing machines in the subway, flat out breastfeeding a baby while trying to take the change out of the machine and then going crazy when not letting her have it! Like most popular cities has its grim parts

Crystal Travel........... DODGY!!

COLD!

Why is Crystal Travel dodgy?

They were the leaders in city breaks before most well known companies existed. I would trust them with my money any day!
Before you slate a company, you honestly should do your homework.

No company is excluded from going under in today's climate but they are a well known, long loved brand and have a good reputation among those in the business, including hoteliers and customers!

have been to Rome twice and loved it but didn't even know there was a tube! Did travel by train tho, hilarious as there were nuns at the St Peter's Station, no idea why that was funny but I had never seen nuns before ...

Lived in Rome for 3 years. Cold as ice this time of year but plenty on and the place really is amazing. Hotel looks a bit dodgy and noisy location (close to trainline), but it's central and amazing price. Probably plenty of decent hotels in/around the centre very cheap / buyers market/ haggle this time of year.
+1 to the thieving thing. Bad bad in Rome, keep all valuables well out of view, 64 bus to St Peters full of eastern european children with cardboard who will just rummage your pockets. Otherwise, great place.
yeah, 2 days is nothing like enough. With the Venice thing probably wouldn't bother. But you really do 'get away'. But the train...nightmare, so you'll be knackered. Pass.

I have travelled with Crystal lots of times. Usually OK. This is a voucher to use with Crystal though.

Agree that to make the most of Venice you need to be in Venice itself, otherwise you will spend time and money travelling into the centre.

I also agree about Rome. I have only been in the summer so very, very busy. They will rip you off left right and centre in the shops - never sit down at a cafe or buy without knowing the price. There can be aggressive beggers and pickpocketing is common. Don't want to put anyone off as there are great things to see, but you do need your wits about you.

Just reread the comments. I had forgotten about the gangs of kids with the cardboard sign. They try to distract you whilst another one picks your pocket or cuts the strap on your handbag. Very aggressive beggers at times, often dragging a baby round with them. To be honest if I were going again I would pay more and stay in a nicer hotel. I think this deal is something I might have done in my 20's when I had the energy and stamina - too old for hassle and long train journeys now!

I totally disagree with all the comments here about Rome and Venice. We went to both last year staying in an apartment in Rome near the Vatican and an apartment in Venice near Rialto bridge, each for about two weeks. We shopped for our food at local markets and hung out...never once in ether place did we have any hassle...you can git ripped of in any large city to single these places out is being unrealistic.
