where's this hukd free postage come from as i can find no mention on boffers forums or anywhere else?
#3
Ice cold.

Overpriced for refurbished cards when you can buy new for nearly the same price.

Its probably one of the most important facts about this deal that the OP seems to have missed out.

Boffer are renowned for offering refurb stuff with limited warranties.

Boffer contacted us with the code to see if our members would like free delivery. It's only been set up today.
It's no big deal, Twitter subscribers get free delivery anyway.

Condition: Refurbished.

Special Conditions: Selling as refurbished because they were originally bundled with a MP3 Player and because have been handled, we now have to sell them as refurbished

I thought boffer deals weren't allowed? Or is it because they're 'partnering' with HUKD now?
#7
shouldnt it say "refurb" in the title... it's a little misleading as it sounds like it is new

They weren't allowed for a long while.
We had concerns about several things for a while as detailed in old threads. We spoke with them and over time have ironed out those issues.
We're not "partnered" with them. As you know, we have links in place for some merchants, but not all.

DCX your post was absolutely nothing to do with the deal. You were commenting on a Hotukdeals branded voucher that you'd approached a random merchant to ask for. We asked you not to do that at the time and explained why...this is not the correct channel to follow.

Got this from Wikipedia but doesn't the card's quoted speed put it in Class 6 speeds? I know it says 4 - so anyone know why SanDisk aren't doing the same and marking it as a class 4 and not class 6 when it says 15 mb/s ?

SD Cards and SDHC Cards have Speed Class Ratings defined by the SD Association. The SD Speed Class Ratings specify the following minimum write speeds based on "the best fragmented state where no memory unit is occupied":[6]

* Class 2: 2 MB/s - 13x
* Class 4: 4 MB/s - 26x
* Class 6: 6 MB/s - 40x

I probably have about 10 SD Cards and only one of them is a SanDisk Ultra II (2GB) but it's consistently the fastest writing SD Card I've got)

Mediocre deal tbh. I paid £15.50 for 3 Kingston lifetime warranty class 6 cards like two months ago, bit better with free postage but still not amazing tbh.

Actually that was a little bit on the end of my post, the rest was about boffer been unbanned so that the mods could post them before it was announced, and this voucher code been posted, as an inside job.

We announce that both Boffer and Ebuyer were allowed on the same day. (See noticeboard here- http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/405417/noticeboard/ )
First Boffer thread here- http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/406352/breville-black-toaster-tt75-17-99-2/ The announcement came before we posted a Boffer.

We don't post all of them, we only post the ones we think are decent.
The voucher isn't an "Inside Job" as it were, it's just a free delivery offer.

Edit- This post was on after midnight btw, the same time it went live on Boffer.co.uk

Am I the only one to find this "special offer for HotUKDeals members" a little at odds with the site's slogan "deal anarchy from the masses"?? It's essentially advertising, now, isn't it?

It doesn't say "special offer for HotUKDeals members" :) It's just a free P&P code.

When we banned Boffer, members complained that we'd removed their right to post Boffer deals, and view/discuss them.
With that in mind, we tried to sort out the problems that we'd had with Boffer so we could start allowing their deals back on site.
Now we've reallowed, members are complaining that we're being hypocritical.

The site is still entirely userdriven. This deal and none of the other deals our mod team post change that.
We have no influence over votes, members choose what hits front page, what goes sub zero, what goes into the hot deals chart.

Pay no attention to the picture of the SD card they put up. Its for illustration purposes only. Its actually only class 2 cards they have for sale.

Horribly misleading. :)

Huh ?
The cards for sale are SanDisk Ultra II - they are not Class 2 cards.

As deeinlondon pointed out, they're capable of 15MB/s - way in excess of the paltry 6MB/s required for Class 6.

I've seen this issue before with the SanDisk Extreme II

For some reason these are classed as a class 2 or class 4 but their specs suggest they're well beyound a class 6 - in fact I'm going to try a test right now with a certified class 6 vs my SanDisk II Extreme (2GB)

BRB with the results
#20
Interested to see that - can you test large & small files & groups of files?

Someone said boffer postage is free for twitter followers.. which isnt true, it was only free for a specific sell off for twitter users.. it no longer is. Unless im missing something?

Also to be fair to boffer (whose descriptions and pictures are always guidelines at best) they say this about the speeds:

"SanDisk Ultra II SDHC memory cards have a class 2 rating, this ensures a minimum sustained write speed of 13x 2 MB/Sec but also have a top read speed of 100x or 15MB Per Sec."

Which does make these class 2 cards as its based on WRITE speed not read speed

Sandisk just muddy the waters by having Ultra II class card that work at different classes.. and the age of the cards makes a difference too as sandisk use Ultra II for more than one generation of cards (as evidenced by the redesign on the stickers over the years too)
#23
it will depend on what hardware you are using with it - check out the following with lots of speed tests. The eg canon EOS 5D or canon EOS 300D

Here's a bit of testing - tried some benchmarking software but it gave results which didn't seem to make much sense so in the end just copied and pasted a single file to and from the cards.

The last test in each case is the most controlled - the very first test I wasn't taking things to serious and defragging another drive at the same time - interesting though as it shows what a difference a busy USB Hub makes to transfer speed.

1 file - size 989,382 kb
External SanDisk Card Reader

Play.com 8GB SDHC Card - FAT32 - Certified Class 6
Write to: 3:22 1:42 1:46
Read from: 1:32 1:16 1:20

*Note First 2 tests above conducted with SD Card reader plugged into USB Hub (1st test was busy defragging a seperate external hard drive at the same time as conducting the test) - last test SD Card reader plugged directly into the machine.

Sandisk Extreme II 2GB SD Card - FAT32

Write to: 2:07 02:11
Read from: 1:49 01:45

*Note First test conducted with SD card reader plugged into a USB Hub - 2nd test directly plugged in.

Which generation (label colours mainly to tell) Sandisk were you using for these and what class is marked on it?

I wish they would just use different numbers.. I have a load of Extreme III 4GB SDHC here and some are C4 and most C6.. they should have just called the Class 6 ones Extreme IV (which they then released.. in another attempt to confuse me)

Oh also for sandisk.. not many have the class stamped on the label (though some do), most have it lasered into the back of the card.. and some dont have it at all its just on the packaging label. (even from the same series)

I've already put above the Play.com was a class 6

I have no idea what you mean about the SanDisk labels - it's black and red

and looks exactly like this

I've never seen an SDHC with the gold top stripe from Sandisk! So now im even more confused.

Anyways i'm gonna grab some of these as I always have plenty of uses even if they are only Class 2 (which im sure they are).

As long as they are SDHC (the picture on boffer isnt) then im happy. I cant imagine sandisk made any Non-HC 4GB ones as they are out-of-spec.
#28
My own SanDisk Card is NOT an SDHC Card - I wrote it's a 2GD SD Card - SDHC Cards start at 4GB

Bottom line seems to be if you need several 4GB cards AND you have equipment that can use SDHC then this seem an OK deal.

A lot of the stuff I have will only accept SD Cards and not SDHC Cards.

Officially yes.. But you can get some 4GB SD Non-HC cards, which are outside of proper specifications.

TopRam make one for sure as I have one.. I used it in my TomTom Go 510 before the newer updated bootloaders came out which let you use SDHC.

Its picky about which devices it works in.. but for some non SDHC devices its the only way to get 4GB so worth a try.

Now expired - onto the next deal ...
banned#32
why isnt the free P&P code in vouchers, or wherever the hell you put them? or is this just for this deal?
#33
Just to let everyone know - just got mine. One of them tests at 18MB/s read, 9MB/s write (with reasonably large files). Not too shabby at all!
They have black/red/white labels (plainer than the Extreme series) and a white "R" stamped on the back, came without a box, just tossed into a jiffy bag. Refurbished indeed.
