Might be a good price but its miles away from the centre and over Christmas period how easy will it be to get public transport to get in?

So worried about booking through places like this with them all going bust ! Not voted either way.

Not 'in' Amsterdam as such. Also I dont think £167 is special.

I've booked with lowcost holidays before. There alright.

assuming the hotel is within easy walking distance of schiphol train station, you need to add in €7.50 per person per day for a return train ticket each day to centraal station (about a 25 minute train journey each way)

the amount you are "saving" is probably offset by train cost per day and the 1 hour a day spent sat on the train. much better to get a hotel somewhere south of the museum district and a tram pass. at least that way you can walk back to your hotel (or get a cab for a reasonable price)

Edited By: wanye on Sep 01, 2010 11:03: added "per day" to train price

Hmm, it's more like a 20 minute train to centraal from the airport. You could also jump off at Amstel or WTC if you wanted to visit the south of the city. You'd need to get a bus from the hotel to the airport, not sure if they run a free one but there is a bus stop nearby.

Public transport runs on Christmas day but it's a limited service, the rest of the time it's full steam ahead. I know you can get Amsterdam tourist cards with 5 days free public transport, maybe they do something similar with the NS trains that saves buying a load of tickets.

I don't think this is such a hot deal unless you want to have just 1 or 2 days in the city and the rest of the time relaxing at the hotel. There are some great cheap hotels in the city for those who'd rather spend all day sight seeing.

And FYI there is no such thing as a reasonably priced taxi in Amsterdam, it's a total rip off. Stick to the public transport as it's safe, clean, reliable and cheap. I should know, I live here :)

i meant reasonably priced as in it not costing nearly as much as it would having to get a cab to schiphol :)
(which IIRC is about €50 each way)
