It depends if this is the stuff from Seychelles or the awful stuff from ghana

I suggest people read the tins before buying, the ghana stuff is crud.

I think tuna steaks are better than chunks but still good for the money.

I thought that 4 tins of tuna was about £2

I cant believe it was ever over £5

Been available in Netto for this price since thursday .Tesco did this offer at xmas but then changed the date, from instore dateie .. you go back the next day & the offers ended even though its supposed to be for another week. Was available for £1.79 in somerfield a few months back. I read in the moneysavingexpert forums that tesco had some £1 beer offers & people were finding instore it wasnt the case.Im not voting either way

hi mate,

your comments are so true
i had a discussion with a lady in the isle about the tuna tins

ghana is awful
seychelles is awful

best stuff is from the pacific stamp

and to be honest if you see tescos own brand tuna (THE BARCODE AND SCANNING are the same as the john west expensive stuff ) wink wink

but deffo worth commenting

not see the pacific stuff when I buy, I find the seychelles one usually ok, had the odd bad one, and the ghana stuff, just inedible all the time

I will keep my eye out for that!

I often find when it is on special, its because its a rubbish batch anyway, last time john west tuna was on special, there was good reason for them to get shot of it.

Asda were doing the same £2 offer yesterday.

If you are that into bodybuilding you ought to know there are much cheaper sources of protein than tinned tuna. 50p a tin is extortionate. It was 24p a tin in Netto just 3 years ago, and granted back then it was pretty good for bodybuilding.

Tinned Tuna's had its day, get yourself down to your local fishmonger for some proper fish, you'll pay less for more guaranteed. Better still, if you live on the coast get yourself a fishing rod! Lets not forget that 'dolphin friendly' nets are wiping out rare sea turtle populations, no chance of that with a rod.

(...and I often find Nettos tuna of far superior quality to Princes or John West. Princes in particular is like 'dog meat' tuna imho)

#20
John West is always 50p a tin at Home Bargains.

The price you see online is simply the price from the store that delivers to your local area. It will vary depending upon where you live...

£1.80 in morrisons

I find princes tuna is quite pink and not too nice. Much prefer John West, however I've eaten so much tuna over the last 6 months that I'm finding it very bland.

Trying to find some meat free alternatives. Was thinking maybe some sort of chick pea recipe.

I must admit I'm a little concerned about the levels of heavy metals in tuna, like mercury. I feel like 50p per can seems expensive for what is it, or rather what it turns into when you mix it with mayonaise - a meaty mush. :-)

Just checked cans - John West is from Seychelles, and Princes from Mauritius
