Called into my local Wilkinsons today (Ashton-under-Lyne) and saw Brita Maxtra Cartridges on offer. Pack of 3 + 1 FREE, normally £11.95, reduced to half price!

I bought three boxes, so we have a year's supply! :-)

Not sure if this offer is in all stores, but my store had loads of boxes on the shelf.

For those of you without a jug (yet), these Brita Marella jugs were on offer, too (half price)! See my other thread here.

Yes, there were quite a few items reduced... saved a fortune today! :)

My girlfriend bought this and ended up returning them as they leaked the black powder stuff that does the filtration. I am guessing they are a substandard cheaper version of the Brita Cartriges you pay more money for. I am sure the black stuff woulddo you no real harm but she has a kid and is pedantic about this sort of stuff.

They are original Brita Maxtra cartridges m8 - you can't buy a more expensive 'version' ;-)

I actually don't like the taste of the water after its been filtered. I prefer the ol' hardwater taste lol

I'm so glad I don't live somewhere where one of these things is necessary.......

edit, oh and you've linked to some weird dude's blog........

these are not necessary in any part of the uk really
but when you think the average glass of tap water
has passed through the human body at least 7 times
not a nice thought really is it

You do realise that even when you've used a Brita filter jug it's still the same water that "has passed through the human body at least 7 times" don't you?

I mean it's not like we have urine taps, they do clean it before re-distribution. Each to their own though.

Also, on the water topic, if you're worried about children and drinking water... use one of these systems and NOT bottled water. Brita will not remove fluoride from tap water, but of course bottled water won't have it in the first place and thus isn't as good for their dental hygiene.

I'm sure it's widely known, but I like to mention it anyway. I have awful teeth and I don't like to think of kids growing up with the same.

Very good price for these.Migt be store specific though.

The Leica cartridges are compatible with Maxtra ones
Halfcost site did have them.Worth keeping a look out. if they ever appear again.
I picked up 8 for £2 there :)

Checked in the Sutton Coldfield store this morning, the shelf still had the £11.95 price so I took one of the packs to customer service and asked them to check the price on the computer. Came back as £11.95 so I think this has to be a store-specific mis-price at the OP's store...

shame though as that's a fantastic price...

Not at this price in Slough

cheddar -- i suspect you could take some orders here and run a quick biz on that!

Water quality is probably area specific, where i live the amount of crud & cack that accumulates around the top of the water filter jug is unbelievable, i also have to regularly wipe the underside of the taps where huge amounts of black sludge accumulate.
All that and NWL have the nerve to put the price of water up!
