Not sure why u say that. I got Amex card and most places accepts it now

I tried to get the amazon vouchers last year but my card kept on being declined in stores while they did 'additional security checks' told them to 'stick it' in the end, would never have another

Generally you are not eligible for an AMEX new customer points offer if you have held a points rewards card in the last 6 months. similarly cashback offers but a points card does not stop you being a cashback new customer and vice versa.

Advantage of points offer cards is you can cash out points as soon as you get bonus and close account and be a new customer again in 6 months (9 months for a ach repeat) whereas for the cashback offer you don't get theomey till your one year anniversary so can only do the offer once every 18 months.

I've managed to spend £1400 in the last 6 weeks, paying for hotels, petrol meals etc

Well its a personal choice. But if u spend £2000 in 3 months then no card can get 10% back. Also all nectar points can straight be used in Sainsbury's/Argos and others just like cash.

If you're spending £666 a month on stuff anyway then this is £200 of points free.
That equates to £166 a week, just £23.78 a day spending.
Not a crazy amount if you factor in shopping, petrol, treats for yourself etc etc

Pretty sure you can unless you have had the Nectar one in the past. I have a Amex Gold and BA card and got bonuses on both.

If you keep the points and wait for a nectar offer e.g. Caffe nero Coffee for 50 points or the 2 pizzas or Vue cinema tickets offer, you can get much better value for your points than the suggested 200 points.

A few months ago I did the 6 months on the AMEX gold chwrge card, bagged the points and cancelled it, then applied for BA one, just done the qualifying spend and waiting for the points to be credited and then I'll cancel that one. I'm waiting til December when I can get the Gold card again but if I can do this in combination with the Gold Charge card it's ideal. I just keep repeating the offers.

Not sure why this deal is cold. I did this for half the amount of points 2 years ago. Excellent deal & easy to spend that amount esp. with the holiday season approaching. Unless you are a real tight a**e HUKD buyer should be no problem heat from & now I will look into the existing card owner offer, thanks OP.

Great deal if you're spending anyway and as mentioned by escortboy putting your weekly grocery and petrol spend soon adds up especially in the Q4 christmas spend period

- £200- £400 of points (depending on how you value the points) - probably worth £320 to me
- Another card for amex statement deals - should be worth about £80 if can max shop small

So could easily be 20% back based on above for spend that I would do anyway - hot from me

care to name a few retailers that dont accept amex? B&Q dont but go to tescos buy £50 of b&q vouchers and get 150 clubcard points too and eh voila you can buy stuff from b&q, screwfix, who are owned by b&q dont accept amex but you can order your stuff and pay by paypal and again youve just used amex

I have been doing this for several years alternating rewards and cashback cards and doing it in mine and DWs name - works very nicely thanks :)

If you apply and then cancel the card once you've bagged the 40k points, do you still get charged the £25 annual fee mentioned by OP?

Not if they have those offers I.e no fees on your first 5 items, which I have :D

Why has this been voted so cold - it's a fab deal if you were going to be spending that much anyways , which isn't that much if one accounts for commute train tickets, petrol, eat outs and the grocery shopping - 665 odd a month. And it's effectively 10-15% cashback in points effectively.

Hot from me

Is the first year not free anyway ?

Update (Just found this) :-

If you have held an American Express card in the last six months then you will be charged the £25 fee from day one. The fee is refundable pro-rata if you cancel the card part way through the year.

Refund is indeed pro rata but only applies to those who have held an amex card within the last 6 months ;) otherwise no fee is payable

No 40,000 for me ,, just 20,000 ..... still gone for it as I have a holiday balance I could clear if I don't meet the min spend , there is a 1.5% charge on the holiday balance payments as its a credit card but for £36 TCB and 24,000 points (worth £120 that i could spend in Sainsburys/Argos) it is well worth doing.

I think my Partner may do the same in 3 months time for another free £156 if the 20k offer is still on ;)

If you ask someone who already has an Amex to refer you then you get extra points and so do they. This works every time for my wife and I and others who have asked me as we swap cards/offers.

How does it work if I already have an amex - can a mate still refer me and we both some extra points or no?

Why not the full 40k - what's causing the difference - I thought amex were giving the 20k points and nectar was doing the rest if you spend 2k in the first 3 months - or is there a caveat to it?

Yes 100%. Go to 'Head for Points' for a full rundown of this offer.

Do Amex credit check you if you already have a card with them? Conscious of having too many checks on my file and got the gold card just last week.
