damn - just applied for mbna card - why didnt you post this 4 days ago?

Read it today actually... Seems they don't like people with Good credit rating though ;-)

Yeah, this is correct. My mum did this a couple of months back and it got automatically deducted from the monthly bill when a purchase was made on the card.

Plus you get 10% off things like Virgin Trains, Travel and Zavvi(Virgin) megastore

yeah, well about 2 months ago thats what it said on the site. Only requires a purchase.. not of a certain amount. Worth it though for saving that much off your bill.

Yes, you do have to make a purchase on the card in the first 90 days. I applied for one a few months back. When I didn't get the money I rang them and thats when they told me about the purchase requirement (they claimed the web site mentioned this, but it didn''t at the time - they basically said it was tough if I didn't know this!). Lukily I still had a couple of weeks until the 90 days were up. Made a purchase and then got the discount off my next bill. Don't think there is a minimum purchase though.

I was declined the Virgin Credit Card... have been accepted by several other companies and recently told by HSBC and Halifax Mortgage Lenders that my credit history is excellent! Don't have any CCJ's or any adverse credit history, yet very surprising to have been declined by Virgin.

Maybe they don't like customers with other credit cards... prefer Virgin's in that respect (sorry, couldn't resist!)
#9
I did this a few months ago and have received the money of my bill. I'm sure you can get the £40 discount if you use it to do balance transfer too which is 0% for 15 months............ Very good deal.

Mate, I've got half a dozen credit cards and no mortgages. Most of them with no outstanding debt... I think they are just afraid that you take the money and run ;-) Coz they want you to spend money and eventually pay fees. Next time, I may have to doctor the numbers when I apply for a card

Good deal. Hot! - But only for VM cable customers.

I have half a dozen cards all with zero balance and one mortgage and I was approved, must be the mortgage making the difference. My intention is to use the card once to buy petrol, pay it off immediately and get the £40 off the bill. Then I will wait for the three months and close the account. Done it with loads of other CC incentives, works a treat.

£40 is £40 for nowt. Hot.

#15
Cheers OP, just applied and was instantly approved, it took ages to hear back from Amazon when I did that one.

I applied for MBNA card yesterday and got approved , if i now apply for this so soon would if effect my credit rating or is it best to wait

Sorry I completely disagree. I love Virgin Media. My 20Mb broadband is fantastic, love the free phone calls 24*7 and whilst I am not into TV too much I love the V+ and BBC iPlayer on my TV i.e. not on my PC. And only Virgin offer that direct to the TV!!!

My dad pays the virgin bill. Would he have to get this card on his name in order for the £40 credit to be applied or can anyone in the household?

Actually, thats a good point. You get 10% off at Zavvi when you pay with a Virgin credit card. Heads you win...tails you win. Zavvi don't do Quidco though AFAIK.

It isnt about whether they are good or not or moral or immoral, its about paying £40 less then you have to. If you wish to make a stand against their cash sum or credit to show solidarity, then perhaps you should offer the £40 to every individual that wants to but doesnt go ahead with taking up this offer, on ethical terms.

Voted HOT - thanks

HOT. I probably won't use the credit card, but £40 off of my V bill is worth 5mins of my time filling out the application.

You have to use it - even for say a £2 sandwich, then pay it off in full (All £2 of it), to get the promotion.

Not sure about different name but I applied for it at a different address and got the discount knocked off at the address where I have Virgin cable, boadband etc. The only info they asked for was the Virgin Media account number.
#28
Ta dude, will give that 1 a bash, heated you up
#29

As long as you owe them no money, yes. Also remember to cancel any continuous authority payments you may have.

For the sake of £40, IMO, it isn't worth the negetive effect it'll have on your credit rating. Depends if your planning on taking out a mortgage or loan in next 6-12 months.

If you simply don't want to use the card - You can do a balance transfer into your bank account and then stick the cash into a 5%+ savings account for 15 months. Remember there's a 3% BT fee.

Setup a direct debit for your minimum monthy repayments, which for MBNA is only £25 - Then on month 14, pay the full debt off and keep the interest.

Only hard thing is. don't be tempted to dip into the savings cash.

Read up on Credit Card Stoozing here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/stooze-cash-credit-cards

I've currently got £4K of MBNA's money sat in an account until Jan 2009 - After fees, I should make £120+ in interest, which will go towards paying next years car tax.

This offer is applicable only for Cable customers...
