this is the old version v3000u.

the v4000 is out now and you can get that from the sony centre with 5 year warranty and a free blue ray player for £699

ok its £100 more but its the newer version, longer warranty and a blue ray player

if you dont want blue ray player sell on ebay. can probally get £100+ for it making the TV the same price as this

Great TV, really does the PS3 and Blu Ray movies justice. Managed to pick up one a couple of months ago for £566 from Empire Direct but this is still a decent price and don't forget Quidco.
#3
cold, have the newer version for £100 more with blu ray player, 5yr warry & free HDMI cable worth £50
#4
i love it when they say under £600 in ad's and its £599.99 :)

free HDMI cable worth £50

Agree that it's a good deal with the bluray player but HDMI cables aren't worth £50!
#7
This is hot - and well worth NOT paying an extra £100 if you're going to get landed with a Blu-Ray player as a result!

£50? Was it 95 foot long or something? A HDMI cable will cost you £5 at most.

Agreed!! I'm sick of this 'you need this HDMI cable which is gold plated, 1.4 ghz transfer.. blah blah blah'!!

Got mine from Tesco for a few quid and it works perfectly!!

Which Sony Centres are still doing this deal? I was planning on getting this but ummed and ahhed too long and then the August 31st deadline passed. Think our local store has actually put price UP! If some of them still have the deal on I will try to grab one.

But but without the gold plated oxygen free silver cables you'll have poor imaging and a limited soundscape.

Sure, you'll enjoy the lossless digital transmission with a cheap HDMI cable, but you won't have the beautiful warm sound that only a traditional gold plated oxygen free $5000.00 cable can provide.

The KDL40V4000 / Blu-Ray offer has gone, however the later model KDL40V4000 is still £699 @ Amazon.

With the credit crunch expect other offers to be made available as the various companies end-of-quarter and end-of-year results get near. By choice I'd hang fire a bit - if I was buying now I'd go for the later model for the £100.

Agree about the HDMI cable - £50? - if you want you can spend £90 (Currys) - - I picked up a decent cable from SCAN at under a tenner delivered.

i went today to richersounds to get this they had one in stock. but its 1080p which is rubbish if you want to watch freeview or anything not HD as it it really unclear.
i went for the 37" philips for 399.95. really nice picture and £200 cheaper.

No No No No No...you are confusing £50 HDMI cable with your wife!
Although I can quite see why because in fairness they have a lot in common..
Both are very expensive, they don't appear to do much for the money they cost
but they are guaranteed to never go down on you.:whistling:

Just because its a sony, doesn't mean its good. Some of their bravia lcds suck big time. See on various forums. Loads of excellent quality hdmi cables on ebay for less than a fiver. Get mr currys/comet/dixons to give you a lecture about the 90 quid cables.... Hilarious. Surprised they don't try to sell a plug with gold plated pins for 20 quid when purchasing.

The 40V4000 can be had for a little less than that, eg. £629 delivered from Digital Direct.

I went to sony showroom in high street kensington yesterday. The sales person told me, he could consider offering me free blue ray disc player, if I want to buy Sony KDL V4000. The price of the TV is £699. So if any one wants to buy, it is better to ask them. They are desperate to sell;-)

I heard a gold-plated HDMI cable is being used at the Hadron Collider at CERN.

looks rubbish on SD though. so unless you will be using sky HD or connecting a ps3 all the time then i would recommend a normall hd ready tv not full HD

Sounds like a good deal, heat added. I got the U series one of the same size (silver one) for the same price a couple years ago from costco and its a top tv!

Also, fishing for bargain TVs... get something like mine if you don't mind it having a box. Ex-display ones from costco are a bargain, and you get a 5 year guarantee! Mine had nothing wrong, and no damage what so ever. I live in Birmingham, and they usually have these every week at the end of the isle where the tv's are, not sure about other costcos though!

I would agree but only when the broadcast quality / signal is good but then that would be much the same for any non plasma and I guess even they would struggle with a **** transmission. I was one of the lucky ones who bought this with 5yr gurantee and blu-ray for 699 and then got upgraded to the latest blu-ray cos they ran out of stock of the one on offer:thumbsup:

there are slightly better deals out there, but not bad price if you can get them to give you 5 yr warranty.
Fantastic tele though

There are different versions of HDMI, cheaper cables won't do 1080p. Admittedly £50 is excessive but if you can find a £5 HDMI cable that can do 1080p then link me
