That's works out at just over 19.2p per battery.

They also sell the same 40 AA 7dayshop Alkaline batteries for £7.69 on eBay (in case you prefer eBay over Amazon).

It's cheaper than on their own shop (£9.98 inc. delivery):
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/7dayshop-aa-aaa-high-power-alkaline-batteries-40-pack-9-98-delivered-7day-shop-2573578

40 x AAA 7dayshop Alkalines are more expensive, at £9.19.

Both Amazon and eBay have an offer of £1.00 off if you buy 2 of these items.

Disposable batteries are good for items that might leak water and damage the batteries (bath toys/outdoor lights etc.).

For rechargeables, I like their 4 x AAA 850mAh NiMh 7dayshop pre-charged low-drain batteries for £2.79. The current £1 off 2 products deal applies, so that would be £4.58 delivered if you buy 8 AAA rechargeable batteries (57.3p per battery).

how do these compare to the 20 for a quid at poundworld?

For the disposable batteries, I don't have them to compare. But it's a recognisable firm, and they are alkaline batteries (not zinc).

They'll run for longer.

Sometimes Poundworld sell 6 Kodak Alkaline for a £1. Works out better value, and batteries are decent

100 for £14.99 maplin batteries are just as good if you intend to use more @ 15p per battery

40 batteries to dispose of, buy 4 rechargeable or maybe 8 Peasants.

The 6 pack of Kodak at the pound shops work out cheaper when you factor in how long they last and you don't have to buy 40 at a time.

Then you have to charge them. Aldi take in batteries :p
